I find it interesting that candles made to look real look better than real candles. Some real candles just burn straight down the center leaving a deep well. Well done, sir!
That normally happens when you light a candle, then blow it out after a short time. An example would be a Yankee Candle. I found this out from somebody else, but the instructions for the candle (yeah right, who on earth reads instructions??) say that once you light a new candle, leave it to burn for 2 or 3 hours until the top 1cm has melted fully across the top, then blow it out. When you relight it, it will continue to burn evenly. When it burns unevenly, it's called the 'tunnelling effect' and it ruins candles, so the same principle will apply to all candles. Light them, let the top 1cm or so melt, before blowing it out. Then just use as normal after that. See this video which explains all: czcams.com/video/VHn8dp4eMhc/video.html
Spray bottle or bowl of cool water makes it cool into shape mich faster. I did about 300 candles for my haunt one year. I wires them all with LEDs and thanks to you, I was able to make them plug and play.

Looks awesome man! GREAT tip with the hot glue application. Can't say enough about the value of a good quality hot glue gun for a haunter. As always, thanks for sharing. Great work!🤘💀
Using the white glue is a good tip. I hated having to spray paint all my creepy candles with some sort of annoying oil based paint I got. It took forever. I did find some kind of special glue that cut down on strings at Michaels that was noticeably easier to work with for candles than regular glue.
Heat gun genus! I use light o ramma to do a show in my yard and this year I am making all my own candles to plug in so I can turn them off and on at points and I have watched tons of videos and this one I learned something new 👍🏻
@@VanOaksProps Yeah, good choices! I was thinking about different books for different "scenes"; Like spell books in a witch scene, ghost books in a haunted scene, etc. I like that this has many possibilities over just a set of candles.
In terms of avoiding patterns, like you mentioned, I go for the rule of thirds - but in an offset way, almost golden spiral to start with and randomize from there. 👍
I think this video was a hit, we're still chatting about it 5 minutes after it was over! We covered so many things not in the video... For example the materials list the candles were from aliexpress and I was exchanging ideas about cobwebbing using a webcaster (hot glue + air compressor) with a fellow viewer, we both liked that... I wished the chat could have kept going we were really getting into the flow when it cut off... Oh well, Anyway, thanks for making the Creepy Candles it was fun hanging out with you guys in the chat.
I love the idea of the stacked books! I got a couple of antique books knocking about so I might borrow the idea of joining them together with screws. IIRC I've seen some haunts to that for certain props to prevent folks from stealing them.
Fine. I'll subscribe. But only because this is amazing, and I don't trust the algorithm to show me more if I don't. (I'm not actually mad... I just have to pretend to myself for a second that I'm being forced because I already subscribe to so many wonderful makers...)
Well I fell upon your spooky Halloween CZcams video. You’re a doll ☺️ My search was for a couple years for the haunted house Pillow. I finally found it today ! you wanna talk about a giddy girl I wanted to squeal and yes I love your phrase ✨Halloweenie ✨🧡✨
Another great video! Just recently found your channel. I'm not prepared for Halloween this year, but I have a whole year to plan and make for next year! I am so excited!! Thank you
You can use any led tea candle for the light and anything that will fit inside the pipe as a way to support the tea candle. I like to hide them deeper inside so that you just barely see the “flame” when I use this method, that way you don’t ruin the effect.
I "love" this! This is so creative with endless possibilities (and I have some of these items on hand that have just been laying around in my hubby's mancave) ! I'm going to start in on this asap (my favorite holiday... Halloween!!). 😃
Okay but HOW did u finish them!!?? I was so excited to see the finished product. Like what exactly did you put? What did u use to prop it on the inside? Did you have to spray paint it white? Depth? On the thumbnail of the video it looks like a real flame. 😢
I went really simple and dropped a bit of a pool noodle inside each on as a platform and rested a moving flame tea candle on it. No extra painting needed beyond what I mention in the video.
These look great from the side, but were they not meant to have tops to them? I mean, I guess they’d look nice with a flickering tealight but they’re candles with a hole in the middle…
You could absolutely add tops, although it’s not uncommon for candles to melt unevenly, leaving behind a void down the center. The beauty of all of this is that you can make these however you like to achieve the look you’re after with the same steps.
Who I really liked that idea putting it on the cemetery headstone using it in other areas even larger just to side comment I think it looks kind of dumb on a book I know I know that is a lot of the ways it’s shown but I would never melt three candles on top of a book I guess they didn’t have trays in the middle ages
You just drop them in there. I've always preferred seeing the light from the candle rather than the flame. If you wanted to see them, you could get some foam pool noodles, cut them down to size and paint them black. Then place the LED tea candle on top.
@@VanOaksProps You can see the flame. If you drop them in, they will fall to the bottom and you won't see the flame. And what tea light is as wide as the widest candle. Incomplete info.

Beautiful work, so you use the glue sticks to create the wax drippings? And do they stay like that forever or do they brake or melt after a while?
They stay just like that forever.
what did you use for the light source? never seen those before.

Love your prop videos! How do you prop up the tea candles with the 3” pvc?
Thank you! I’ve found that pool noodles or scrap pieces of foam work well.
😍😍
How wax drips would be a much easier way to do a Chianti bottle/candle holder!
I've made my own gravestones and rotting hands, but not my own candles. Thank you!
ok question.... how do you put the tea light in so its up top and not on the books as the pipes are hallow.
You can honestly use anything you’ve got around. A piece of pool noodle, left over foam, etc.
Just a question. Why do u mostly use plastics and other chemical hazardus materials and not wood or paper?
I use what's most readily available to me.
Do you know if a small led candle that can be used in a thinner PVC candle?
there’s a variety of sizes of led bulbs that could be used. 5mm is probably the easiest, small led to find. I get mine from lighthouseleds.com
