South Park DESTROYS Kanye (again)

- South Park’s 26th season just premiered and… jesus let’s just take that in for a moment. South Park’s TWENTY SIXTH SEASON just premiered. Amazing. The season tackled some of the recent Kanye West controversy in a VERY different way than usual, but in my opinion, probably much more effectively. And though they didn’t actually put Kanye himself in the episode, they completely dismantled his string of antisemitic comments incredibly clearly and effectively. But it also naturally built off of what the past season or so has established, and brought back a now pretty frequently recurring character in a fun new way. Let’s break it down.

Realizing this is an Eric Cartman Character Development episode disguised as a Kanye West episode. I mean, Cupid Me was always just the voice in Eric's head.
Are you alright dude ? Do you need to talk to someone ?
.
@@VCBeatsNTV I'm good
Cupid Me commited a grand theft auto.
And all of the students noticed his presense. He is definetely real
He was terrorizing the school shooting arrows at peoples neck I don’t think he’s imaginary 😂
I really like how old school this episode was. Like, it is still modern, they are directly talking about Kanye (like they did about Trump, The virus etc) but instead of just having that character/situation take a part in the show, they have the boys go through trouble again and have Cupid Me turn into Ye for no real reason, yet without loosing its point in any way. Really excited for the new season
fr, and the ending with Kyle teaching the impressionable town a lesson, only for them to misinterpret him is so classic!
If I was kanye I would sue the hell out of them for using my name and me in their show without my permission.
@@BigJohn303 yeah I don’t think it works like that.
@@BigJohn303 they already portrayed him twice. I am pretty sure as long as they don't make him do something pretty extreme, he cannot achieve much
@FIer Still they are using him and his name in their show without his permission. I'm pretty sure he can get something out of that. They are just lucky kanye ignores stuff like that. Because trust me I would sue.
I’m surprised Cartman
The boy who literally manipulated Passion of the Christ fans to match in the street chanting “we must exterminate the Jews” thought Cupid Ye was going too far
Character development? From Cartman?? I am surprised, but not neccessarily in an unpleasant way
@@nataliaborys1554 Nah, more like disappointing, i mean, I don’t like many of Cartman’s feats during the TV series, but what a shame if he is changing his old personality
The episode confirmed Cartman literally IS Cupid Ye. Whatever Cupid Ye is saying, Cartman is saying. Id rather see it as Cupid Ye of his meds being totally honest with his believes while Eric is trying to sell it to others better
Cartman has matured enough to, on a surface level, admit Hitler is horrible, but not enough because, subconsciously, he still has that belief and it's manifesting as his cupid persona.
@@nataliaborys1554 Well, he did briefly become Jewish, too (Jewpacabra)
Though most seem to forget?
I liked how Çartman was totally disassociated but central to everything. Cupid Ye is just Cartman. He's the one who sneaks into Tolkien's house. Who drive's the car and the riot was a Bee flying around the school.
So when all the kids start getting upset you think its Cupid Ye but its just there own frustrations. Also canonically is Cartman now taking meds
Are we going to start seeing him take medication in the background.
Oh my goodness!!
As the episode went on, It became obvious to me that Cartman was actually doing the things Cupid Ye was doing, and they were not only in Cartman's imagination. (Like you said above, Cartman did actually sneak into Tolkien's room, and Cartman actually hot-wired and drove that car, etc).
But it didn't dawn on me that the "big bee" Mr. Mackey was freaking about about was.....literally a large bee. (I was confused by it, and failed to take it at face value). D'oh. So thanks for pointing that out.
That's a great question: will Cartman be seen regularly take meds from now on? If Cartman will, I wonder if the writers will ever address it directly and in more detail on the show. I guess we will see. 🙂
I was actually wondering if he was real or not, it’s a bit confusing but I think you explained it well
Cupid Cartman is definitively his way to disassociate from the stuff that Eric does not like about himself/is not entirely proud of doing. This episode, it's ruining his friend's other friendship. In "Tweek x Craig" it was gay thoughts. It makes sense, right? Especially now that he made Cupid Cartman calm down by giving him his medication.
Cartman won’t take meds it’s just for this episode . The creators wouldn’t use their main characters to take on something like that, they would probably use another kid for meds or create a whole new character. It’s just something I noticed how South Park writes their shows. Meds thing to me just seems like a one time thing I don’t seem them focusing on.
I think it is interesting that Cartman's mental health is finally being brought into question, especially by Stan of all people. I have a genius idea where they could god with it:
Coon Knight
This episode was good on another level. The kids were just being kids while Cartman was being mentally insane as usual while also being able to tie it all into current events and having a message at the end. So cool
I still wanted them to bring back the gay fish Kanye & go all out making fun of him
@@SlashinatorZ go all out making fun of him? bro you sound goofy
@@froghunter3691 you on a video about South Park destroying kanye west and you are surprised when people say they wish they made fun of him? Lol that’s goofier than the person commenting on the video that’s about destroying kanye…. Smh 😂
I liked the part where Cupid Ye is whispering to Tolkien and Tolkien's dad overheard and went to investigate and it's just Cartman. This establishes, explicitly and diegetically, that Cupid Me just **is** Cartman.
But then later he's fighting Cupid Ye, in front of basically everyone, as if they're actually two separate entities. Cartman forcing Ye to take his meds was even the perfect opportunity to establish that Cartman himself is taking them. I think that could've been a lot funnier, but oh well.
the way they made it kinda ambiguous if cupid cartman could be real reminds me of the mitch connor thing lol at first they clearly showed it was just made up by cartman but later on lean into it possibly being real
When did it become cupid 'ye"
@@John-Doe-Yothis episode. Cupid Me went off meds, became Christian, and started going by Cupid Ye
@@baileylynn5562 ah okay thanks I haven't watched since the vax special or whatever it's called
I'm thinking later this season they may reveal he IS on meda. Looking back at the episode when he was fighting with cupid ye, the camera pans back and forth between them and the rest of the kids, but they are never in the same shot. Kids looked shocked as hell and it would be hilarious if what they were seeing was cartman fighting and force feeding himself pills.
Havent watched the new episode yet, but its really nice to hear that south park is more overtly criticizing antisemitism. A lot of kids i knew growing up would miss the point of the cartman being antisemitic, just parroting him and as a result acting antisemitic themselves so this is absolutely a message viewers of the show need to be taking in.
They were Criticising Kanye a lot more than they criticized Antisemitism.
Wild to think there’s possibly people who don’t know the history of the show but that’s the magic of making a show that lasts over 2 decades
You don't become antisemitic by parroting Cartman. What a ridiculous thing to say. You honestly don't understand what constitutes antisemitism.
Unfortunately you're right about one thing: SP has become more and more PC over the years. It is ironic considering how the show started, which was as an antidote to political correctness in the 90s.
Nah i dont believe that. I love that south park still has the guts to make cartman an antisemite it makes me laugh every single time. Suggesting kids pick up anti semitism from a cqrtoon is just nit something i think is possible. However i agree with the rest of aour comment the best south park episodes is when they manage to make all sides of an issue look stupid in ine episode. When noone is right and everyone is just wrong. Thats what makes it so great to watch.
Well it's not a show for kids
I haven't kept up with South Park since 2016, so it was refreshing to watch this episode and be amazed at how Trey &Matt keep themselves relevant.
By mentioning current events how cleaver 😳😳😳😳

The season that mimics the 2016 election got a lot of hate from the viewers. I enjoyed it but a fun fact was the last 3 episodes were planned with Trump not winning the election and after he did they had to rewrite the ending of the season leading up to release each week. I thought that was really impressive
This was one of the best episodes recently of South Park. felt like classic South Park for once. no Tegridy Farms bullshit, just South Park.
I was one of the few people who didn't mind Tegridy Farms. 🤣 But I agree, I'm so excited they are continuing their back-to-basics approach.
@@Jen7867 it did drag out longer than needed but they did slow down on it last season
Hate to tell you this, but I'm sure there will be at least 1 or 2 Tegridy episodes before the end of this season, but we'll see. If I'm not mistaken, we got probably 5 episodes and 5 and 1/2 weeks left of the regular televised season for the year lol.

I'd be really interesting in hearing a video explaining how we have ended up with animated (and traditional) shows with such short seasons when you would think computer tech would make creating episodes easier / less work intensive than ever.
I was dying when they showed Cartman’s fat ass shadow climbing out the window 😂
Really good episode. Strong message, but funny at the same time. It's also nice that they make the episode work for people, who don't really know about what Kanye West does/says. You still get the message and pretty much all of the plot, what wouldn't be possible if the storytelling wasn't as good.
What I love about South Park is that they hit the nail on the head consistently. Episodes are still being talked about and they can do it without feeling like they might offend someone. Like with Simpsons getting rid of characters.
A blink and miss it moment is when Tolkien’s father hears Cupid me whispering in his sons ear walks into the room and sees real cartman’s silhouette jumping out the window

It's pretty interesting and sad how like in school when topics such as racism and anti semitism are brought in history class it was always framed as how people USED to be like but not anymore. But you look around in society whether in person or a comment section and they're still pretty common. Not to mention states like Florida are outright banning talking about that in school under the guise being "woke".
So it's good to see shows like South Park still actively talking about this stuff and those people and mocking them
Apparently telling second graders about sexual orientation is necessary to stop racism. There is no benefit to talking about sexuality with very young kids. Why not do a bit of reading like this episode suggests.
@@unknownsword9042 I think they’re actually talking about how Florida has banned classroom libraries and books about the history of racism under the guise of banning “critical race theory.” (a thing that isn’t being taught in public grade schools.) just yesterday I found out there was a new south park season. I had no idea^^
and I was smiling for almost the entire episode. looks like we're in for a really good season. I'm also very excited that 2 of my headcanons have gained more arguments. 1. the growth of cartman. he literally fought against racism in this episode. he is not the same person he was when he sang "in my waterpark". and 2. cartman has supernatural powers. his imaginary cupid friend manifested himself into reality. we saw hints of this in the episodes with mitch connor and also the one where all his toys are killed. it wasn't confirmed but it gives my theory more weight. cupid cartman literally interacted with real human beings!
not only that but the plot was really good too. I'm excited to see what other current events we will see parodied in the coming weeks!

South Park's meta humor has been perfect. Tolkien and the credits from this episode has gotten a laugh out of me where a lot of other meta humor hasn't. Not sure if it's just how infrequently they do it or what.

I actually like Kyle's, Stan's and Tolkien's friendship and I can very well see them being a trio of best friends compared to the usual four (sometimes five if you count Butters), though seeing Stan be upset over Kyle and seemingly feeling forgotten if not left out I felt that because I have been in many boats like that when a friend of mine starts hanging out more with someone else, so it felt realistic.
As for Cupid Ye (and by extension Cartman) I did hope for South Park to tackle the whole Kanye West issue, and while I was a bit shocked like "oh my god, the mad lads did it again" sort of way I felt it was handled very well, also Cartman finally taking meds? Finally have scraps of character development? Based.
Also I do find it funny that some, NOT all btw, who discover Christianity can quickly become extreme in their ideologies to the point where its hurting everyone around them (if not also themselves) be it LGTBQphobic, racist, antisemitic, etc. It's truly an issue.

I’m honestly surprised that Cartman was against Cupid Ye considering his anti semitic history
In the end, while he made it about Stan, I think Cartman just missed Kyle...
Even his antisemitism was always mostly about Kyle, Cartman is obsessed with him, and possibly romantically infatuated. There have been many clues that Cartman might be closeted, and possibly specifically attracted to Kyle...
I think you made some good points and you said Kanye is beyond parity he is acting like the South Park version of himself so there’s no way for South Park to bring that character back

But yes, that gay fish is beyond any rational thought at this point.
Kanye is actually crazy.
That's exactly why they hated their Garison Trump plotline, or atleast hated writing for it, because trump was so crazy that they couldn't parody him because whatever they parodied trump would actually go out and do. The only way to really even parody Kanye would be to actually make him H!tler, which would probably get south park sued (out of those 2 options they probably cared least about being sued)
I also saw people asking for an Andrew Tate episode, which I just don't imagine them doing for those same reasons, but if they did do an episode about Andrew Tate, I don't think it will be about Andrew Tate, but rather have something parallel hm and his situation. Cupid Me is Cartman’s Mr. Hat.
Cartman is such a useful character because he can be used (and has been) to portray the worst people and events in society became he is the worst character in the show. And my simply having people, situations or ideas filtered through cartman, even accurately portrayed, it becomes a criticism in itself.
For example, the episode with cartman and his "anxiety". Where of course there are people with legitimate anxiety issues. And then there's the cartmans of the world who use "anxiety" as a bludgeon to manipulate people and take advantage of their compassion or the compassion of their peers, to get what they want. I personally knew someone like this myself. Perfectly capable of functioning, but selective in their "capabilites" making people wait on her hand and foot, and using it as an excuse not to grow up. Being "afraid of people", but jumping at the opportunity to go out to the mall or movies with her mom. While demanding that if she wants domino's, someone else has to call and order for her, and then answer the door and bring her, her food.
By putting that through cartman, they make the statement "here is how this can be used by the worst people."
