It took 10 carmen 550+ hours to restore and repaint NS1069. Over 72 gallons of primer, paint and clear coat were used.
Over the next few years, all 20 of our Heritage locomotives will be getting a fresh coat of paint in the color schemes of our predecessor railroads. đ

Had Jim Squires still been the president, I dare say he wouldâve just ordered it to be painted all black. That idiot pretty much undid almost everything that Moorman had strived for from the steam program to the F-units and even employee morale. Hereâs hoping Alan Shaw will do better.

@johnsmart964 we better get the mandatory 45-day wash on the units. I'm not trying to recatch 1065 1073 1065 and any heritage ace, and they were already repainted and dirtied up within a week.

Of these twenty, Penn Central 1073 is perhaps the most waiting for an update đThanks to Norfolk Southern for preserving the heritage!
They should let the PC heritage unit get as dirty as possible as a tribute to the original Penn Central.
No, 1073 should stay as it is. It's dirty paint makes it look even more accurate.

I can't say the same for CSX.
NS is, to date, the only one who did true-to-original heritage paint jobs. Not the abominations that UP, CN and CSX have crapped out. Hats off to them for getting it right! The others only did theirs to be able to continue legally charging for the copyright/trademark usage of their defunct fallen flag identities.

Good press for the railroad! Keep it up! I saw this for the first time in 2015 at a ground level crossing gate in Hopewell, NJ and quickly educated on the NS heritage program.

NS and UP know how to do heritage units. NS is keeping them up.
None of the UP units are true-to-original schemes. NS is the only one whoâs done that.

Actually, they should give they're history to NS and pretend like they are NS heritage units in NS territory. There will be 20 more NS heritage units 10 more ES44ACs and SD70ACEs
CSX is about money/stockholders! they are a bottom line corporation the executives at CSX in Jacksonville. They know the Railroads they came from and they couldn't care less... they're about makinmoney, not appeasing rail fans! To them marketing CSX is it first and foremost among everything even on the heritage unit CSX must be the brand that still is represented ...which is bottom line thanking! It will not change!

Fantastic, now please get 1074, the Lackawanna, back running and repainted!! It's sad that NS cares enough about some HU's to repaint them but leaves others in the dead line for 2 years!! I'm thrilled that they are working to repaint them though. Hopefully they do them all!
