    Sound is heavily associated with Normal type, not only the Whismur family, but Jigglypuff and Meloetta also falls into this category

    • @IAmMissingnoMaster
      @IAmMissingnoMaster Před 28 dny +1

      The Jigglypuff thing tends to be one of my main arguments in favor of Normal representing sound. It explains why the Igglybuff line retained its Normal typing while getting Fairy tacked on, and the Cleffa line did not- of the two, the Igglybuff line is more traditionally associated with sound. Another one that I think drives this point home is Litleo and Pyroar. They're lions. They roar. Kind of their thing. Hell, Noble Roar (which is a Normal move!) debuted as their signature move.

    You forgot to mention these things, there are Pokémon who can fly who aren’t included in the flying type like Vikavolt, meaning that just because a Pokémon can fly doesn’t mean it’s a flying type. Also there are Ghost type who can die as well despite the name of the type like Mimikyu, although there are Pokémon who are ghosts in the traditional sense like Yanmask who can live pretty much forever.

    • @MattTOB618
      @MattTOB618 Před měsícem +3

      About the Flying type thing: Flying is one of those types that gets easily overwritten by other types, due to the limit of up to two types per Pokémon (as well as balancing concerns).
      For your example of Vikavolt, it's a Bug/Electric type for very obvious reasons, and likely would also be Flying type if the rules allowed three types, but since they don't, they had to pick the ones that suited it best, and Bug fits it more than Flying (many bugs can fly, but not many flying things are bugs).

    • @lordfreezer5631

      @@MattTOB618 Yeah. And recently Water type is going on a similar route. Examples like Stunfisk and Galarian Stunfisk, the Tynamo line, Dragalge, the Crabrawler line, the Clobbopus line, the Hisuian Qwilfish line come to mind. I think regidragos Pokédex entry explains the dragon type. So the dragon type is actually an elemental type. Dragon energy is like this weird arcane energy that exists naturally. Dragon type Pokémon can harness this energy. Certain naturally occurring crystals can either store or make this energy. Regidrago is made form this energy. I believe dragon is at least nowadays meant to be energy in some way, fighting is willpower, psychic is mind, faith is magic. The only real descriptive types are flying bug dark and poison I guess

    • @randallb2179
      @randallb2179 Před měsícem +4

      Yeah. Personally I like to think that Pokemons that CAN harness the weird arcane energy tend to look like dragons. That's why people in the Pokemon world name this type "Dragon". But of course, not all dragon-like Pokemons can harness the arcane energy (e.g., regular Charizard). And not all Pokemons that can harness the arcane energy look like dragon (e.g., Kingdra). That's my head canon at least.
      With the Fighting type, I like to think about it using Asian martial art concepts like ki. Fighting type represents the ability to control this ki/life aura energy, as reflected by moves like Aura Sphere and Focus Blast. Physical fighting-type moves are infused with this ki/life aura. This give them unusual properties, such as being particularly effective on sturdy materials (i.e., super effective on Rock and Steel). It also sets them apart from regular body slamming and punching, which would be normal-type moves.
      Also, the Dark type, with its focus on fighting dirty (as opposed to Fighting-type's being associated with life aura and code of honors), is just an "evil" version of ki/life aura.

    1:30 I think Palkia is a water type because of the mythological associations of space with water. In many mythologies and religions, the universe began as endless waters. Palkia also kind of shapes space as if it was water.

    The first thing you said about Regidrago is essentially how I view certain types like Dragon and Fairy etc. and the difference of Pokémon types and Pokémon themselves. There are some Dragon Types that aren’t dragons themselves like Mega Ampharos, Vibrava, Altaria and the Applin line which are a sheep, dragonfly bird and worm respectively.
    Inversely, it’s just like how Scorupi, a Poi/Bug type, evolves into Drapion; a Poi/Dark type. It’s still a bug, it just isn’t a bug TYPE. It’s the same with Fairy types. There is at least one Pokémon that’s straight up a fairy. Florges recieves a lot of criticism for not being part grass type but the point was more so that it’s a straight up a kind of fairy that has an affinity for planta. It doesn’t even gain energy from the sun like grass type Pokémon do; instead from flowering plants. But then you have lots of fairy types that aren’t the actual mythical creatures. Dogs, wolves, Galarian Weezing, whatever Azumarill is supposed to be.
    Then you get unfortunate circumstances like Uxie (pixie), Mesprit (sprite) and Azelf (elf) that are just pure psychic lol.

      That's exactly how all Types work, even the physical ones. The special "Energy" of a specific kind is what makes each Type a Type.
      That's exactly how Arceus's Plates work. He is naturally just a Normal, he needs to draw energy from a Plate in order to become it's corresponding Type, even those "Physical" ones like Flying, Bug, or Steel.

  • @mairain6443
    @mairain6443 Před 2 měsíci +6

    I see the normal type as the 'every/natural' type, it is the type before specialisation, it's why they have always learned moves of every type, they are the type which has the most potential and are the most natural/balanced with natural elements.
    we also see this through Pokemon such as Sawsbuck who by gaining the grass type now gains a less diverse elemental move pool.
    I see the half normal to be a stage where they are either specialising or de-specialising.
    Fairy aren't the goodness type, fairies and fae are not good by nature and a lot of pokedex entries tell you that they are thieves, trolls and/or very violent, if anything they are the type which represent fanasty or childishness.

  • @Nmoment-uv6jc

    The "ambiguous energy" from the dragon type is not really ambiguous. The types come from the energy of creation (revealed in Legends Arceus) and the dragon type has the purest form of type energy, while other types have it mixed with other substances, like water energy in water, psychic energy in light and grass energy in leaves

    • @DDKoD

    A few adendums I think are worth pointing out:
    - Fairy-types can sorta be split into two groups: beings of all things good (peaceful creatures like Togepi and Primarina, sweets like Alcremie and Dachsbun, holy beings like the Guardian Deities and Xerneas), or more of the harsh, pranksterish types (Mawile, Tinkaton, Impidimp, Shiinotic, Jigglypuff, Hatterene, etc.)
    - Psychics are also pretty strongly linked to emotions (Lake Trio, Hatterene, Gardevoir, Swoobat, Indeedee, etc.)
    - Certain Dragon-types have the typing based on a bit of word play, such as Applin being a wyrm in an apple or Alolan Exeggutor being a sort of Dracaena tree. Also some of the in-universe explanations mention things like dragon energy, potentially mana, or the Dragon-type having dragon genes
    - I think another sort of Normal-type characteristic is something that is familiar to humans / human culture. For example, Arboliva is partially based on a dryad, which is humanoid without really falling into Psychic / Fairy / Fighting, Indeedee is either a butler or maid based on gender, Cyclizar has been around humans for a long time and is basically just a motorcycle, Drampa is based on an old man, Grafaiai is based on a little punk kid, Heliolisk is based on solar panels, etc. Even sound is a sort of element that us humans can manipulate more easily than something like fire, electricity, or wind

    i think an alternative name for the miscellaneous category would be the stylistic category. The types within that category can be described as the pokémon’s certain usage of its fighting abilities. Poison is about debilitating the opponent with venom or poison, Psychic almost exclusively uses one’s mind to fight, and similarly Fighting uses martial arts. Fairy uses not only fae magic but also as mentioned in the video, light. Dark is about using underhanded tactics or other such things. And Normal is unfortunately pretty generic, although I think the explanation in the video is sufficient for its inclusion.

    Its arceus original type before defeating the titans.
    We know any other type isnt from arceus because the plate are made from the titan wich means arceus original type isnt from any of them.
    After defeating the titans and separating in multiple arceus he let go of that type but traces of it where still in the world after the fight.
    They ended up underground as crystal and a pokemon that was capable of absorbing energy ended up taking controll of it accidentaly.
    It also explain the normal leggendary.
    Arceus just uses it as base.
    Silvally is based on arceus so it has the same type.
    Terapagos was just a normal pokemon that ended up with tera energy.
