I’m not gonna lie, I get a little annoyed when people say that characters like Reptile and Ermac should only look like Ninjas.
There were ten male Ninjas in MK Trilogy, and they all looked the same except for color. I don’t feel like we need that many Ninjas in MK. Also a character’s design shows personality and traits better, like Rain’s design in this game and MKX shows that he’s royalty.
Ermac acts nothing like a Ninja in the later games any ways.
Max has said he likes the sorcerer look of ermac better in the original videos of them doing the MK trilogy. I think this MK did a good job of mixing both ninja and sorcerer.
Agree with reptile though. I love his more feral look in this game.
Agreed, I think it's a good idea to remix the outfits of the other "ninja" characters so they at least have hints of them being the different colored ninja characters from back in the day but I prefer Reptile to show off his lizard body more, and I like that he's more stout in MK9 than his MKX version

@@SN-mq4ek I vastly prefer them to have their own identity, especially since Reptile and Ermac and Rain aren't ninjas and arent' even lin kuei. Their resdesigns should hint at their older designs as " green ninja" or "red ninja" for sure so there isn't much disconnect but need to more unique from Sub Zero and Scorpion

His alternate costume is screaming "real scorpion" more than his default costume with the mask alone.
If they ever remade 9, they should keep the colorful style to homage the connection to the past games. Keep the costumes, but re-scale their limbs and redesign their faces so they look much better.

@@pieman12345610 Idk if this is what he's talking about, but in the lore of the game Mileena is a seductress that lures men using sex appeal in order to devour them. Skarlet takes power from blood, she bathes in it and grows stronger. So she's always wanting to get as much blood on her as possible.

I love her redesign in 11 more because it gives her more of a kharacter instead of looking generic, but I don’t like the masked one that makes her look like a desert bandit/Tusken Raider. Her unmasked Mira-like design is a hella lot better, short hair or long hair

The primary costumes in mk9 are probably the best (overall) in any MK series. Okay, some alts sucked, but their primaries were great.

I feel MK9 perfected the design of mostly all of the characters in the this roster. Truest return to form game in the series. MK9 will always be my modern favorite and UMK3 is my classic fav.

Stryker looks great in this game but I adore his Armageddon costumes - so futuristic and just cool.
Ermac and Mileena looked the best in Deception/Armageddon. Same with Sonya's Deadly Alliance costumes

For the record, and I haven't read further below if anyone else has said this, Kabal was a "good guy" in MK3/UMK3, fighting on the side of Earth Realm's defense. He's basically the Black Dragon member who went the opposite route of Kano, pissed off that he got targeted by Shao Kahn's extermination squads and signed on with Raiden without even reading the contract lol. He was originally an anti-hero, they just gave him more backstory in MK9.

Maybe I'm just braindead, but I think Stryker was really awesome in this game and had the potential to become a Chris Redfield-esque supercop if he wasn't instakilled by screaming skunk hair along with most of the roster.

Scorpions MK9 costume may be a little on the nose and overdesigned but its also so damn iconic. Its definitely the first thing that comes to mind still when I think of scorp. Also I love smokes hair. It was the main thing that set his design apart from other ninjas.

Close but missing the mark on some of them, and then going on some weird directions, like with Sonya, who doesn't look like she did in the original trilogy of games and doesn't look military, or Scorpion, who's feeling very insecure about his name and identity, after Reptile became a literal lizard man. I'd argue that the best designs are the ones that are complete redesigns, namely Rain, Noob Saibot, Ermac, Cyrax and Smoke.
Fair Point. Just wish this whole costume issue had never got to this point. I'm still not a huge fan of the game play but I do think some of it looks cool just too many Zoners for me as I'm more for rushdown. A lot of my issue is gameplay but I've also never been one for any form of censorship so I will not be buying MK11. I miss when games were just fun not having an agenda shoved down our throats. Most games now do same reason I didn't get Fallout 76. Devs telling fans how to like their game.

I think he looks pretty solid in this game, I like the character and he did get to have a pretty heroic moment in the story. The Alt costume is a little weird though not gonna lie

There's alot of alt costumes that they did notice that they were homage to some of the older games. For example Mileena's alt was a MK Deception & MK Shaolin Monks reference.
