Kano's costume is not a pirate, this costume is based on Brazilian outlaws called "cangaceiros" :D

Cangaceiros were pirates. They were outlaws, bandits, etc. Same thing.
Pirates, congaceiros, banditos, vikings, conquistadors, etc. pretty much all the same thing.

@@Lord_Raptor no, they were not. That's like saying cowboys were also like pirates, just because they were outlaws. Cangaceiros were more closer to raiders, or even the cowboys than pirates (I didn't even mentioned that pirates used to, y'know, sail in the goddamn sea?!)

Was never a fan of their designs before, looked kinda amateurish or edgy, they've treated their characters like action toys.
At least it changed for MK11, which currently has the best character designs; NR have matured enough to really pay attention to the designs and make most of their characters look sick, too bad they've fumbled it with Cetrion, I think she's hot.

Jacqui as Spawn with a full face gives off the same vibes as Blue Beetle having a mouth in Injustice 2

Revenant designs being the default for so many really uglifies the roster. It's great that NRS gives so many alternates for free though to get around some bad base designs, opposed to some other games.
Overall they have a lot of mid designs, but there are so many that it makes up for it with the sheer amount of options.
It really is a shame when they have bangers like Kitana, Sindel and Jade to name a few and my first thought seeing them on the select screen is a slight revulsion from their ugly gray skin. Revenant should have been an alternate and not the other way around, lore be damned.

rain is a DRIP LORD in mk11 dude, he’s got some of my favorite outfits and gear in the whole game. his more futuristic looking outfit with the white and red color scheme and the futuristic full-face mask with the glowing lines is peak badassery

Its like you didnt even give Liu Kang a chance these costumes are some of the coolest he had it really feels like you got beef with Liu.

Honestly I love Kano's default look in this. It just feels like such an uncommon thing in games for us to get a character who's just a hairy rowdy boy.
Spawn is so clean in this game, especially his comic outfit. Damn it they should put him in mk1!…
I actually love the Shao Kahn helmet. And Spawn is perfection.
I understand he had to think about time, but I really wish he could’ve checked out the classic Shao helmet. Makes a big difference
Cetrion's design relies heavily on her interchangeable parts. Made mine look great with the ashen color scheme and wing like tentacles and head dress.
She has some of the best kosmetics in the game tbh especially with so many color/glow effects idk how she got the ratings she did smh

I'm one of the few people who liked Shang Tsung's base costume. The color pallette is a reference to his original design in the arcades. With the yellow pants and all.

I’m like 5 minutes in and I already kind of have an issue. A lot of gear pieces, like masks and helmets, are such big, integral pieces of the character that I think it’s a bit unfair to rate everything with the default gear when a costume might be designed with a specific gear piece in mind (e.g., a lot of classic costumes came with gear pieces that resemble their classic equivalent)
cetrion costumes look a lot better with different head thingies and hair stuff. i spent a good chunk of time playing dressup with her
Yes, playing Fashion Kombat was definitely a thing in this game to make your character look just right
I wish Max had the time to do fashion ratings on the characters, especially when the gear names have some deep lore names that make you question character relationships
Max mentioning Mike Matei when talking about the Joker had me on the floor. I remember when all that shit was happening during the Kombat Pack 1 Announce Trailer and even Mike making some jokes about it.

Both Raiden and Fujin's defaults are some of my favorite character designs ever, not to mention their VA's knock it out of the park as well.

I honestly love the simplicity of a fair amount of these costumes. This is the game where they really committed to the character's faces being super realistic so there wasn't too much of a reason to get overly-intricate with their designs.
Always wondered how Judge Dredd has never got into these games i think hed fit so well
Also Lobo he was in injustice but i feel he would be perfect for the ultra violence of MK

That wrap-around outfit for Jaqui should have been her default. It is so good, and her base outfit makes her look like a nameless NPC.

Gunslinger Spawn is an easy 10/10. One of my favorite designs in the game.
I PERSONALLY think Rain's best design is either his klassic MK Trilogy design. Or MK9. He was the first DLC character I bought for MK9. So many memories playing with that character.
A lot say his Armageddon design is their favorite, and I agree it’s one of his best. He looks like a true prince in that game, also his MKX skin I think was really nice too, and I agree his MK9 skin was really nice.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person that thinks the character models look better in mk 11 than in mk 1. The ambience and effects, I can give it to 1, but I just feel the faces look more consistently real in 11.

mk11 nailed a realistic style that wasn't gritty like MKX, and I love it for that
I think MK1 was going for a bit less realism maybe? At least compared to 11, but yeah I LOVE how realistic 11 looks, parts of it look photorealistic to me.
I do agree that MK1 looks better when u play it in person than compressed YT footage but I do think it’s still slightly a bit more cartoonish than 11. It still has some realism but it’s like a mix/in between cartoonish and realism.
Max doesn't like the Revenant look for Nightwolf? I'm kinda shocked, I think it looks cool as hell

Personally, MK11’s Liu Kang base design is my favorite of all Liu Kang designs.
To be honest, a lot of costumes are incomplete without the proper gears equiped
I wish Max had time to do deep dives on gear pieces if only because some of them have names that give you lore clues, like Jade having a staff that was a gift from Raiden, Kung Lao with bracers from Nitara, Scorpion with a few items referring to his wife and son; I think Geras has one that points to the direction of his character in MK1
Nightwolf design is awesome but I would say Undead Nightwolf should have been at 8 because the face paint is pretty great also Spawn, Shao Kahn & fire god Liu Kang looks fantastic

Missed opportunity to call this Rate the Kostumes. Also Sub-Zero's default is a 10/10 for me.
Who else would actually want to see him go through all the gear pieces? It would be long, but I would watch it.
Max absokutely hating the bug skins is hilarious cause they are still the sickest thing that came out of the combat league.
Would love a intro and victory animation review, MK11's raises the bar in cinematic flair.
A lot of outfits in this are so cool looking. I remember scorpions and subzero and rain looking beautiful.
I can't believe i'm rewatching Guyver at the minute and I get blessed with a Guyver reference, I wish more people talked about that Anime (So they finish the GODDAMN THING!)
Say what you will about the other revenant designs, but revenant Nightwolf is a fucking 10/10. Absolutely nailed it with him.

Many of the Revenant costumes look so much better with the human version of the character. Especially Kitana, I was a sucker for the hair buns

Yes, the victory and intro animations would make a great video, one of those really sick, albeit relatively minor additions they added to this game. I wanted to get the cool animations, so they did a good job.

Of all characters to give a bug skin to, they didn’t go with Kollector. The dude with a bunch of creepy arms. But clearly Kotal and Kabal were more fitting

Mk11 had some of the best(and worst) costumes. Customizing gear pieces was fun too, f all yall, I liked gear. Yeah, krypton sucked, but I got 90% of what I wanted in towers

I'm mixed on it, I'd rather a more simple design then a busy weird ass designs, but Scorpion in MK11 is just 12/10 badass, his best costume ever. I do like the designs in MK1 overall though, the female fighters need to be a bit more attractive tho.

I hated that the 6-7 characters on the roster were presented as their undead versions. It makes sense that they exist in that fashion for the story mode... but for the baseline arcade experience, unlocks, etc. I would've preferred to see Lui, Kitana, and the rest as their normal selves. Those are the characters we identify and love.

4:26 this is where I think you -should- talk about SOME of the gear equips, Shao's masks are different - but I understand, you're rating by its default or your currently equipped stuff
BUT, I think you're still missing stuff if you skip out of the Ninja masks, that ADDS to some of the costumes imho - as you stated Shao isn't a 10/10 because of what you had equipped on his head - BUT you are right, it would get a bit wild 5:19
As max said, I also feel like 11 looked better than 1. I mean, it seems like 1 added more color and details in the stages but the characters feel like they're coming directly from injustice universe.
Alternative gear might help save it, but a lot of the default fits in MK1 are just too generic to be exciting. Like, this is 2023, why does Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Smoke still look like palette swaps when this game differentiates the ninjas pretty well? Then, you have the most boring Johnny Cage design when he had some pretty great alts here (the military default is pretty eh, though I don't really care for Special Forces to begin with), and Li Mei, her big return since the 3D era, having the same costume as the NPCs around her (ironically, besides her, most of the Edenians in MK1 are probably the only characters I could argue look their best here than in previous games)

I feel the stages in Mk1 are much better than 11. But the character designs and intro animations and all that in 11 is mountains above mk1
