- On today’s episode, we chat with Alex who was in the market for a diesel truck recently. He’s a GM fan and honed in on the Duramax platform, and we wanted to know what he looked for. Was it easy to find a truck for his hauling needs? Has the truck been reliable or had any more issues? What has he changed? If an LML may be in your future, give a listen!

My 12 is a great truck. I’ve done a lot too my truck too prevent issues while new CP3, full delete, y bridge and all piping, Ecm and Tcm tuning. Towed with it for 200+k miles and finally started too lose coolant slowly. She’s under the knife getting new heads and gaskets done. Also water pump, oil pump and a new 64mm RDP turbo in her. Hoping I can get another 200+k miles out of her. She’s made me a lot of money so I can’t complain on putting the little bit of money I’ve invested in her. She’s never once left me stranded on the side of the road.
I’m going through the same issue. Slowly loosing coolant but I can’t track where it’s all going! Any ideas?
@@hernancortez3322One way too tell if you need heads done, is check your upper Radiator Hose in the am. If it’s still Rock Hard, you need gaskets and most likely some Head Work.
What happens is the Gasket Tears and the Coolant is actually not going through the water jackets, but entering the Case. Which over heats the engine.
You can also have, a small pin holes in the radiator, Bad EGR. Over flow tanks like too give issues also.
@@jimv74 she’s fully deleted. No egr, dpf.. the hose is soft I can squeeze it and push pressure back into the overflow tank.
@@hernancortez3322 have your radiator pressure checked. Also if you smell coolant in the cab, possible heater core issue.
@@hernancortez3322 also check the over flow tank. While running see if you can see small Bubbles coming up, if so, that would be the heads. Also if your over flow tank looks dirty, that’s exhaust gases, head gaskets.
If you’re on the fence….do it! I’m absolutely in love with my 2016 3500. Delete it, tune it, you’ll be the happiest dude in the world. Period, end of story. Just get it.
Are certain “parts” east to remove and put back together every once and awhile?
@@breadcat6454F no. Nightmare fuel. Once it’s off it’s off. With that said, I’d still keep the stock stuff around though.
110% agree bro love my obs lml.
I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Duramax…..358,000 miles (I’ve owned since day one)…. Would be glad to tell my story to you guys about this amazing truck
Original CP4?
@@HuntsT CP3 Conversion at 360,000
@@NSR7385 which kit and pump did you go with? How many miles on it so far? I'm looking at doing this too, any tips to pass forward? I'm looking for a reliable 500-550 hp. I'm at 170k miles now, I've had it deleted and tuned by PPEI since 68k miles.
@@HuntsT I started running a FASS lift pump at 50,000 miles, I have an Exergy CP3 Sportsman pump and the truck currently has 367,000 miles
@@HuntsT Here’s a list: S&B Cold Air Intake, Deep Trans pan, Bilstien Shocks, Timbrens, EFI Live, Danville 65mm Stage 2, PPE Idler Arm Pivot, Mevotech Lower Ball Joints, BD Tie Rod upgrade, Upper Control Arms, 5in Stainless Exhaust, new radiator….I still want to build the trans and upgrade injectors
LML is a great Duramax ,only issue really is Cp4 but as he said FPR saver is his best bet without breaking the bank
Yep!
Wjat is the FPR . Please explain because I'm going to buy me a 2016 and I also heard of the cp4 can that be replaced I heard of a cp4 2.0 and I also heard to put a fass fuel system
Fuel pressure relief valve , it goes between the fuel tank and CP4 , duramax tuner sells them with small screens in them incase your CP4 goes bad it catches any small particles
Yes first thing is put a lift pump on your truck fass 165 or airdog 165 , that helps with Cp4.2 failure by keeping it pressurized and lubricated and your LML will live a happy life
Cp3 conversion is your other option but pretty pricey, Dan's diesel performance carries those
I like my 2013 lml. The first thing to do is have that cp4 fuel pump retro fitted with a cp3. I did not know this, if you wait till the crappy cp4 goes it was around 12k to get it done then. However, its 3 to 4k if you do it before the cp4 takes a crap. Mine has been tuned and gets 16 mpg with a 8k trailer 16.6 without.
All Duramax year models are reliable-period 🏁👍🏼Much love from Conroe Tx
Interesting stuff. I got into the diesel game recently and have done a lot of things.. from upgrades to repairs. Quite a bit more expensive but man is the power there! I’d love to give input too! 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD RCLB. Exenergy fuel saver is a must!!!
What’s rclb stand for
@@Duramaxmanny regular cab, long box
I just asked my mech to do this and he said about 1 in every 10-12 customers who do it have there cp4 detonate shortly after..
@@benjamin07420how would a Exenergy fuel saver blow a cp4 any faster than not having it? All it has is thicker screen ( not more restrictive, just stronger ) to hopefully help catch any debris if the cp4 goes. I’ve had one for 70k miles and no issues…sounds like your mechanic is full of it..
Duramax way to go 273000 miles free problem wasome love it.
Is the thumbnail photo of his truck? Trying to find ideas for my white single cab lmm duramax
It is! He’s on our Discord Channel if you’d like details of the truck.
I have a 2012 lml 92000 and already rebuilding from burt hole in #4 piston and warped heades from over heat due to hole in radiator
Looking at a 2016 LML duramax sierra 2500hd slt for my first diesel truck
Head gaskets are dog crap on all duramax's
How many miles were on it when he bought it?
How many hours is good on a LML since idling is a bad thing to do in theese trucks
If it’s deleted idle hours aren’t an issue
