Let me know what we missed! Letâs help each other out đ
I'm in the market for a good scanner/code reader. I know you mentioned that you use a Launch, what are some of the others that you might buy not only for the Duramax but gassers as well... Kind of a high dollar purchase, maybe do a video on some brands for us.
Thanks ....
@@tasco13 great point Iâm really only using launch at the moment
How about L5P ??
Injectors and MAF issues but other than that itâs a solid platform
Thank you...great videos !!
I think an LBZ specific â bewareâ video would be good. Maybe even make a whole series, lb7, lly, LBZ, lmm, all of of them, biggest issues per model.
I was going to comment the same exact thing.
the BIGGEST problem i have with my lbz is people trying to buy it from me !
@bob lol, same. I get questions all the time about mine and how I like it. Then âlet me know if you decide to sellâ.
@@bobocaterpillar3697 wanna sell that LBZ? Lol
I have an lly and would like a video of the "look outs" on it also! Love the channel and Thank you for your service!
I cannot stress enough this video is as good as it gets!
This is real information from those who live DURAMAX.
Thank you immensely. ...liked and subscribed.
Great info!! I know there are many videos out there, but knowledge is power. It would be great to have engine specific fixes (LMM, LBZ, etc)
Keep up the good work!
Thanks
You guys are decent folks. Iâm not buying a diesel but appreciate what youâre doing to help people. Thank you.
Any time I have an issue with my lbz it turns out to be a "common problem" so I like the idea of getting a heads up for what to expect lol
Thanks
Very informative video. I have a lly. 240k. Headgaskets studs thermostats, water pump, 4 injectors, fuel pressure regulator , globe plug module is the stuff I ran into. She is running strong still
I have a box stock LB7 I tow with. Would love to see more on potential problems, and performance upgrades that will improve my life on the highway.
Thanks guys Iâm really gathering some much needed info when I got to shopping for my truck .
very interested in the LB7 talk..!! I have an 03 LB7 that I love and want to keep on the road..!
More duramax talk! L5P please! I daily mine and I don't tow a lot. I am going to add an edge insight to one of my next mods so I can manually regen it. Then banks rear diff cover. Thanks!!!!!
Awesome content!! I always like this kind of information, so that I can be prepared. Thank you both for sharing the knowledge. Please do more videos on these topics. My LLY and myself will be happy.
Roger that đ
Really impressed with Ryan and his shop. More I hear/see the more depressed I get because I don't have a specialty diesel shop like his near me in OH ...
I am in NYC area....nobody out here with a shop knows whats going on...lol.
There is a really good diesel shop in Youngstown Ohio
FTK Diesel...
America is built by small businesses. Support your local diesel shop every chance yo get. But, if you own a diesel you'll get the bug
Yes it was the idler and belt tension pulley that got me stranded. Tension-er seized up at 70 MPH and you were right Scary. No brakes,or power steering.
Thank you for the information on all duramaxs. 04.5 lly owner(inherited, and happy!) I've learned so much from you. Really want to work on trucks, especially duramax. Subscribed to both channels to keep up.
Just a note on the TCM - my brother-in-law has an '07 Duramax that started having the intermittent shift issues. It looked, smelled, and quacked like a failing TCM, so he replaced the TCM. It fixed it for all of one day, then the problem came back. A few days later his son noticed that something looked queer with one of the speed sensors on the transmission. Replacing that speed sensor fixed the shifting problem. Don't forget that with most electronic control systems, you need to check both the sensors and the actuators, as well as the controller and the wiring between everything.
All great stuff đ€đŒ
LMM owner here, and love my Edge Insight CTS II monitor. About to start a project with some hardware from ProFab, HSP, and a couple other things. Can't wait!
I always love diesel talk I hope you guys make a nother video on the Duramax I like to have the knowledge of what to expect if something happens with my truck
THE MOST HELPFUL VIDEO EVER. TEAMWORKS PAY OFF. THANKS GUYS. IMPRESSIVE.
From watching this video, looks like im going to do a little bit of insurance shopping with this Ryan's shop just to have in the glove or tool box. Such as getting a spare TCM, and replacing the idler pulleys etc. Great video. Seems like the LBZ dodged a lot of the problems mentioned here, although we are not immortal 100%. But its encouraging no less.
yes My LBZ has 477.000 km. Touch wood still pulls & shifts well
I donât have a duramax but I like them all, they all seem to have problems, I appreciate the knowledge you guys shared đđ
Thanks
Wanted an LBZ , but ordered a 2022 f250 instead. Iâve Heard some horror stories on these too already. Itâs mainly emission crap , but donât want to void warranty already.
Love your videos man đđŒ
The ending clips were great
Great video and I had issues with three of the items you discussed here!! The time, the hose popping off and the particulate filter!!
If you have the time you should make a video on each model and the common problems with each as well as some of the benefits to each model
Love this type of video, I have a 02 lb7 with 192000 on it . It still runs good but I'm getting nervous. I've owned it 8 years and never had one issue so I know something is coming. Its completely stalk other than a 2 in suspension lift.
I'm at 210k injectors and upgrades!!! Rebuilding the front suspension, it wasnt sloppy but is 2002 with 210k on it lol. No problems here!!!
A wealth of information and things to watch for. Thanks guys!
I recently replaced my engine and all injectors in my LLY. Would love to see a video on what to do with the break-in and any tuning updates that may need to be done.... Thanks from Dallas...đ€
Great video as always! Would you please do a video with Ryan breaking down as to why the lb7 is king?! It's my favorite regardless because it was my first but I'd definitely click to see that presentation!
Thanks guys for sharing all your knowledge , I do know my way around
Non diesel cars , but I don't know much about diesel.
I have adquired a 2006 duramax that I plan on fixing up as a father and Son Project .
Thanks again keep up the good work.
And you guys got all my support.
God bless.
Oh yeah! Had mine go out 50 Miles from home. TCM is a must when your Duramax is completely different and not shifting and All đ Great information video thanks Brothers đ
Anyone remember when gm had a 6.2L diesel backed up by a turbo 400 trans with no electronics...and it just..... worked?
They would keep it that way but the government wonât let them. Trust me they hate making junk cause they have to warranty it
Emissions Emissions and More Transmission problem
With that impressive 135hp....
@@micahblack454it was never designed to make a lot of power, it was just a reliable workhorse engine. Ain't gonna burn any rubber, but it will get the job done.
Barely
Great video guys. Keep em coming ! I carry a new spare serpentine belt in a sealed plastic baggy. One time I started the truck and heard a big whummp and my belt broke. Turned out a squirrel was in there. May he rest in peace, or two pieces I mean.
Ha. I love animals, but that squirrel got what it deserved.
Awesome video. I recently went from a 2005 LLY to a 16 LML with only 41K. The truck needed a EGT sensor which the dealer replaced and the shop did a forced regen. I have driven the truck about 1,000 miles and it has not gone into regen again yet. Most of the miles have been on the interstate. How often should you see the truck regen? Doing Air Dog soon and getting a CTS 3. Never really worried about the LLY that much but all the emissions stuff on this truck worries the heck out of. Thanks for the great info!
Thanks for the video it gives me a brighter information what I need for my truck an again thanks.
I love the Duramax talk especially about the older models in 2005 she been talking about the 2006 is and 2010s I'm looking at buying me one so I need to know as much information that I can possibly get cuz I own it a Ford and they kept on breaking down the 6.0 the 6.2 the 6.4 stayed in the shop so I'm looking at a GMC instead of buying a new model 2020 I rather work with a older model and do majority work myself instead of being in the shop all the time and upgrade that engine like I want to so I appreciate everything you talking about continue to do what you do doing a wonderful and amazing job
This was a terrific video, even if it was all new & Greek to me! I will watch this video several times in the coming weeks to take it all in, and I will definitely keep these guys in mind to call when my truck needs work. Thank you for posting this video! Ha, and here I thought you would just talk about DEF, which I already understood. I envy you truck guys who really know your stuff!!
With my super sensitive nose I can smell something sweet in my engine near the driver's side near the tire well but coming from the engine. So now I've learned that I need to check if the coolant is leaking a bit. I'm hoping it's a minuscule leak or just normal burn off for the first 1,000 miles it is being driven? I'd been foolishly hoping it might be a brake pad that was new and burning off residue, but coolant seems to hit 100% on a google search. I'll be towing my family & our 9k lbs. travel trailer next week over 8-10 high western US mountain passes, and in our 100 degrees summer heat am hoping everything is ok with my new truck. On the dash I can scroll through all my current engine stats and nothing stands out at all, including all engine temps & brakes. Still, I'll try to get some time to check my coolant level manually just to keep an eye on if it starts going down at all. This truck hasn't been driven 1,000 miles yet.
My truck is a brand new 2022 GMC 3500 Sierra Duramax, it is a 4WD AT4 single rear axle, here are my engine"s specs (taken from GMC's site):
6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine
445 hp [332 kW] @ 2800 rpm
910 b-ft. of torque [1220 Nm] @ 1600 rpm
3.42 rear axle ratio
AllisonÂź 10-speed automatic transmission
Can anyone tell me which of the things in your video would apply for my vehicle? I hear you speaking about a "5" or "L5" and other engine models or something, but have no idea where mine fits into that so I can get my feet under me and follow along here.
Thanks in advance for any & all advice, thoughts & direction given - I welcome them all!! It helps me to learn and keep my family safe :)
Great aspects to think about. Never thought about that electrical stuff and inter cooler issues with the bands.Much appreciated.
I have got to add a commentary if Ryan isnât a chip off the block I donât know what. You can tell this young man has spent some time in his dadâs shadow and has definitely learned a thing or three. Itâs great to see a young man who has some of his old mans style. Me and my brothers used to break balls by saying âOh, youâre just like dad!â We smile at each other now and say thank you because we had a great dad. I know they drive us crazy when weâre teenagers I mean whoâs dad didnât come off with a âdonât make me put a foot in your ass or Iâm looking for a place to park my foot and your ass is looking pretty good!â but they are doing everything because they love us. So I tip my hat to your father.
I need to start calling Mark âDadâ đ
Sounds like you had a great dad. Yes Ryan and i have spent sometime in the shop over the years. Thanks for the kind words it does mean a lot to me.
Was your dad Red Forman?
No more like Ricky Ricardođ
Thanks for the video! Hey, do a video of the same and talk about the LB7, LML, LLY, etc.etc, and discuss the vulnerabilities and the advantage of each! And, include the L5P, that's my new baby!!
Thanks
Funny I came across this video. You guys provided a TCM for less than half the cost the dealer wanted. Thanks again!
đ
I would love an lly hour. Trying to learn how to make my late husband's 05 c4500 last forever. He loved that truck, only has 50k on it. Found your channel about 3 weeks ago and love it. My dream is for you and Ryan to work your magic. Keep up the awesome work!
Lots of great info love the channel thanks so much.
Glow plugs . I had one bad one . I decided to change all of them at one time . I found three different makes . Lbz 2007 classic I got it at 100k . I love my truck .
Great content Josh thanks for the info, keep up the great work đ
Thanks
Great video, have to agree with some of the other comments about doing generation specific videos that would be fantastic. Keep up the great content
Thanks!
Appreciate these videos keep em coming!
Thanks
2012 Lml...low miles 85k, I've had most of those issues, nox, pipe, def heater, and TCM. Also a big thanks to Ryan's for the TCM shipped to Texas. What was the Bosch CP4 plug for insurance?
You should make a video on just LBZ Duramax. That one would be great !
Excellent job on this video. Yes, more videos for 2003 and 2004 6.6l Duramax.
I bought one of these a few months ago. My TCM failed today idling in a parking lot. Was able to get home going about 40mph. No highway so that was good. I'll change it out tomorrow. No down time!! Thanks guys!
Swapped my TCM to the Ryan's Diesel Service pre-programmed unit and back on the road. Great product guys! Buy yours now before supply chain issues get worse.
I love this video had to subscribe to the channel thanks for posting, i proudly supports the local companies as much as possible
Great video guys thanks, the info helped a lot.
I have a 2013 one ton dually I live in east Lansing Mi it has 97000 miles about 23000 miles we pulled a Airstream trailer it weighs 6600 pounds. Iâm very impressed with you guys maybe once good weather comes around I will make a appointment and have do some PM thank you đ
I have a 02 with 298,000 on it an 3/4 of them miles are towing a 32' gooseneck, injectors, front end rebuild, rear axle seals an now a new key switch ignition, an another set of infectors, only things done, more fuel, air, tuned has been a good truck.i bought with 20,000 on it. Always carry a spare belt an one or two idler pulley in the tool box
Awesome video! I own a LLY. I've replaced so much stuff, including the HSP bundle kit. These trucks are not cheap to own!
You got that right
I have had my LLY since May 2013 with 178k miles.....the only major problem was a fuel regulator switch 2 weeks after I bought it. The dealer charged me over a $1000 for the repair. That's the only major problem I've had.....now have 296k miles with just basic maintenance. I love my LLY!!!
@@danielellis2271 I had the same deal , pressure regulator replaced it myself also did the water pump and my egr cooler was plugged up nothing easy to fix but not to bad if you have some ability.
Loved this, I was talking back during the video as if you two could hear me đđ
Excellent video. I have an 01 Duramax with 80k miles. Love it.
I'm not a mechanic but speaking from experience on my Duramax and had this issue time and time again. FIRST place I would check is this..check the fuel filter/head assembly. For some reason mine seems to collect contaminants and foul up the filter/head assembly. Remove the fuel filter. If that is the issue you will certainly see all the buildup on it and know it needs cleaning.
I work at an indy shop, we don't see too many newer duramaxs but when we do it's nearly always dpf related.. we have a few farmers that let them idle a lot and are not on the highway much like you guys were taking about, these trucks don't like it. I've done a few def tank heaters, couple def injectors, and some egt/nox sensors as well. One of our customers has a 2015 and it's in the shop about every 6 to 9 months because it just won't regen.
Dang well luckily on my lml I switched out my cp4 with a exergy cp3 . Also the dpf and the rest of my emissions fell off one day while I was driving but I just kept driving and left it behind. Itâs weird though my truck has ran extremely well ever since
đđșđž
Yep me too
How much does the conversion cost?
Just fell off huh? Damn, bad break but I have no doubt you can find new replacement parts in the next 30 or 40 years. No worries.........lmao....
Oem fuel filter housing issues. I went through it and ended up adding an LP. Best product Iâve bought for my truck aside from my insite.
Letâs hear some more about LLYs. I own one (my first diesel truck actually) and those poor things just arenât talked about much but theyâre dang good trucks. Mines an 05 and Iâve actually gotten the p0700 code for TCM before. Got stuck in 4th gear but I just cleared the code to get it home.
Wow. I can't believe I've never had ANY of these "common problems".. 07.5 lmm, 192,000 miles.. I must not haul enough or beat on it.. lucky me!
Yes! LB7 is king! And yes more on the Duramax!
Putting a monitor and wrench kit in the truck. My 2019 Duramax is still pretty solid, But I like your ideology on fix it before it breaks!
I got an alarm on DEF. My shop replaced a sensor upstream of the regen box because it was wasting diesel. It would not reset the panel. Turns out the outlet sensor was slow to react and had to be replaced to allow the panel to reset. Took my shop almost 2 weeks to hunt this issue down.
Make a video like this for each generation
Thanks for the tip on the idler pulleys, bought new ones and replaced them and yes 162,000 miles they were at their end of life
đ
Good video.. How bout you do a vid like this with the truck that started it all...2001 LB7 with all its quirks and phantom limps..limps with codes..2001 factory programming issues..etc..etc..
Is there any advantage installing 3.5" turbo horn or larger intercooler piping? Do they help with efficiency or power or engine longevity?
Can you do a break down of each year of the Duramaxâs? Pros & cons of each Duramax engine?? Love the videos, keep up the great work! đ€đ»đșđž
if you go back into his channel he actually has a video on that its just down the list quite a bit but its a great video full of information.
Thanks
@@TruckMaster what you think about the 3.0 duramax ? I try to decide between 5.3 or 3.0.
I have a 2013 LML. It has a mini max and deleted with 4 inch exhaust. When I first bought it it would run like a scalded dog in performance mode (like spin the tires at 60mph when punched kind of fast) I have since added an air dog 65gph lift pump, egt and tranny temp gauge and exergy fuel system saver and have now noticed it doesnât âseemâ or sound as fast, it still runs fine as a daily driver though and for towing but wonât spin the tires at all (I did put new tires on though so that may be part of it) . It Also it used to make a loud hiss as it cycled the turbo during start up that now doesnât do it as loud at all. I am leaning towards either time for a new air filter (or has the AFE power air filter) or maybe some metal shavings got into the turbo when I drilled the exhaust for the egt probe...or itâs the fuel saver (Iâve heard others say they removed them because it robbed power). Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? Thank you in advance.
much appreciated guys and yes! please toss out some more videos
I have a 05 & 14. I love both of them.
Transfer case pump rub up through the 07 Classic.
Leaking power steering and transmission lines.
Glow plugs LBZ.
Seals in the fuel filter heads after a period of years.
Good stuff! These are informative videos.
Own a 04 LB7 since new ,use Howes fuel conditioner since new
276k on the truck , still running factory injectors , no smoke , no fuel in crank case , always use the best fuel filters every 10k .
Great truck
YES. Thanks guys
Great video guys. I have linked your page for reference. You guys know your stuff. I have a 2017 chevy duramax with about 80,000 a great truck so far.
I replaced mine before having issues, thanks for the piece of mind!
I understand the Baby Max is new but can you do a video on it with anything we need to watch for. Plus warranty approved upgrades.
Thanks in advance. New subscriber
Iâm expecting delivery of a new Chevrolet 3500 High Country L5P powered dually next month that I ordered in March and a dual remote oil bypass system from Amsoil first thing and then figure out what the best route of tuning/deleting to go but look forward to the journey and getting all the knowledge I can gain in the process!!!! Thanks for the videos I have gained a bunch of information right here already!!!!
I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 3500 with 310,000 miles and I love it itâs been a great truck very reliable it has plenty of power almost daily I pull a trailer with it
Love that my 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins 6 speed manual doesn't know what word issue means. Never left me stranded and it proves it's reliability!
Love my lb7. That throaty sound. Just wanna upgrade turbo to a 64. And build my trans.
Thatâs a great plan
The one I'm getting is a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 heavy duty with a Duramax diesel thanks for posting this video
Great information, glad I have a LLY.
Great video guys!
I would definitely like an LMM specific video on Fuel Pressure issues and Limp Mode. I have almost a million Kilometers on my 2007.5 stock and only started having problems recently. Got rid of the old exhaust and put just pipe and muffler on. Runs much better now but still goes into Limp Mode a lot due to Low Fuel Rail Pressure.
Put a lift pump on it like FASS or AirDog. Itâs leaking air into the head unit of the factory fuel filter primer pump. The gaskets get old and leak air and drop fuel rail pressure and put it into limp mode. Replace those gaskets also.
â@chip7522 if I'm not mistaken also check your fuel lines. They like to kink especially with that much use and time on em. But lift pump like you said will just make his life better.
@@zacharyhernandez1483
Hi Zachary, I did replace fuel lines several months ago and made no difference. I am also in the process of replacing small lines on top of engine compartment now. We'll see what that does I guess.
Wow! I didnât realize all this mechanical stuff about my truck. I just bought a 2017 Silverado High Country Dually, I drive a Peterbuilt with a CAT and I really donât have all this issues. Not that I have any mechanical problems with my dually. If I do have any problems Iâll be sure to get with you guys. I can tell you know what the heck youâre doing.
Kisses đ đ from DodiLina
Great job guys very informative
I've got a low mileage 67k 2015 LML Duramax. Have went into reduced power mode twice towing heavy with no warning. First time was a bad DEF temp sensor at 45k and second time was 9th injector failure at 65k. I was able to clear the code a couple times each and drive to my destination. However both times were freeways speeds on grades with traffic. The pucker factor is huge when you hear a ding, get a reduce power message and go from 70 mph to 20 mph right now.
Always love the content Guys!
Loved the vid! Thank you!
Thanks
Undersized radiator on some models , big one !
The Dorman comment is spot on !
Everything you can give to preemptively do I want to hear. Thanks a ton! đ
Iâll be buy my first Diesel in a couple of months and this was very helpful for me keep doing these please
Thanks đ
Thanks for sharing, very good sauce!!
My son and I each have â03 LB7s in mid-200Kâs. I did fuel injectors and lift pumps on both (tough work, but Iâm not a mechanic and I got it done) and theyâre both strong trucks. Yes, old diesels need maintenance, but few gas trucks will last this long at all, and the LB7s get great fuel economy compared to gas. If you donât want to but a new truck every 10-15 years, diesel is king.
Thanks to you both, keep the gears turning.
Roger that
