    Hey man, I'd like to say thank you from someone whos genuinely trying to improve my game as much as possible. 2 years ago I couldn't imagine shooting low 80's every time. Now I've broken 80 around 5 times now. I dont have enough money to get private lessons, but your teaching is invaluable to me and when I have the monetary means I will be buying some of your merch. So genuinely thanks.

    Tried to turn my other guys onto him but they’re a little slow. I enjoyed the breaking 100, 90 videos the most. Adding strokes to holes based on handicap is pure genius.

    It works, playas! I've been at a plateau between 90 and 105 for 9 months and just broke 90 for the first time with an 86 (+16).

  • @satchrocks34

    Because of your videos i started using only my PW to chip around the green.
    It's been a GAME CHANGER!
    I am so much more consistent with my chips. On my last round I holed out about a 50ft chip and chipped 2 others to within 1ft.
    And even my misses are not NEARLY as bad as they were when i was using my 56 degree or sand wedge.
    These 3 shots were on a stretch I went par, birdie, par, par, par. I had a pretty bad round from the tee and fairways, but my short game was on fire. And that's what I used to be REALLY bad at. So now that I know I can chip, and working more and more on my inside 6ft putts, its gonna bring my ceiling down so much

  • @scottgcurtis

    “Every professional golfer - Gary Player himself.” Such a nonchalantly brilliant reference to the Black Knight. Didn’t he also say “putt whenever you can, and if you can’t putt, chip. If you can’t chip, pitch.” Or something like that. Such a class act. Wonderful ambassador for the game and a credit to SA (and all Lithuanian golfers).

    I followed advice from Jim Venetos and made a card up with 25/50/75/100% feel shots for all my clubs. It has been invaluable for the less than full shots. You measure with the laser to get the shot distance required, then consult the card. Ask yourself do you want a low running shot? Then look for the distance with a longer club at 25% swing feel. You want a higher shot that need to stop, then look for the distance on the card with a shorter club at say 75% feel. You have to allow for weather conditions ( hot/cold) and ground conditions ( slow/fast) and sometimes improvise with a " just a little more than say 25%" to get the distance you want.
    The chip shots that I find challenging are when I am short sided ( missed in the wrong area) and the fringe of the green is rough or bare. I am not that good at putting these shots, though I am getting better now I am using an Arc Master putter. (Gravity Golf) . Using a high lofted wedge for the short chip is too erratic for my skill level, so I usually use my 19 degree single length Hybrid with a putting stoke/ or a chip-putt off the toe of my 8 iron to lift it up over the rough then roll out.

    Crazy… when I first started playing a year ago, I did what you said and used one club (PW) exclusively and it was good for breaking 100. After time I realized there were chips I couldn’t pull off and switched to a SW exclusively. That was perfect for breaking 90… on the green every time for a 2 putt. But now that I’m trying to chip everything within 5 feet, I realized I was struggling a bit and so just this morning I pulled out the PW again for the chips with ample green and voila!!! Now I’ll be bringing two wedges to the practice green. Things are coming together and Im starting to understand the importance of the good miss. Thanks for all you do!!!

    Thank you for saying to take a practice slap in the sand on the course while you are learning and still figuring things out. Too many people don't practice from bunkers and they never improve and will forever take 2 or 3 shots to get out. If it is a casual round, your friends and playing partners don't care what you do. As a general rule, they are too busy worrying about their own scheisse and want you to get out as soon as possible so they can take their shot. If they do care..., you need better friends.

    After lots of tries, I found that I can chip with my 8 iron to land 1/4 of the distance to the hole on a mostly flat green for best results. 1/3 with the 9 iron, and 1/2 distance with the PW, adjusting slightly for down slopes and up slopes. It’s easy to walk off the full distance and pick a good landing spot before chipping.

    thanks to adam at "not a scratch golfer" i have found on slower greens, chipping with lower lofted clubs like an 8 or even a 7 have more favorable outcomes since they more roll out versus any wedge which i'll use on fast and really fast greens.

    This series of videos is fantastic; it’s like a magnum opus to your journey, experience, and philosophy.
    Getting your “inside 120 yards toolkit” of shots sorted out makes for better course strategy. If 110 yards out, do you go for the middle of the green and make a great putt, or try to stick it close and have an easy putt? It’s a choice between which stroke should be the “hero” shot and which allows the best miss hit to recover from.
    Thank you for your excellent channel!

    Great advice and logical playas oriented System that builds up Skills and confidence that can be transfered to the course and Game. I would argue that Most of the time golf is thaught only technical and the amateur or recreational playa is left alone and confused zig-zagging the course. I was a Bad Putter several years ago since i saw phil mickelsons short Game video and the hundred putts 3feet circle as a foundation of the Game and then practiced lag putting back to 50feet. That only gives a massiv boost of confidence to know i can two putt regardless where im lying on the green. Same with chipping etc. i seldom take lessons anymore but i do to work on little technical Parts to improve striking. Most of the time im working out my Game and skills on the course the Playing style. Got stalled with my Game for years like hcp 12 and now hcpi 5 attacking Breaking 75 as a next goal.

    I had a teaching pro show me this technique, he said if the pin is in the 1st 3rd of the green use PW or gap. If it's in the middle 7-8 iron & for the back 3rd 5-6 iron. With all shots use a putting stroke with about 2ft back swing and 2ft follow thru. In other words, use the same stroke just change the loft depending on how far the pin is. I still use my 58 or 60 most of the time 🙄. Need to practice this more

    I use that Cleveland SSS wedge for everything within 60 meters and I love it. I don't lower the loft because I play on tiny greens with mean rough around them and if I get the speed to push through the grass without stopping, a 9 iron just goes right over the green.

    Hey Legend!! Safa living in Aus. Massive fan of the channel. I have practiced the bump and run using 8/9/P/50 a lot, but i cant seem to get a consistent strike to my landing spot. Its either coming out chippy and short, or hot and long. Please make a Vid on the actual technique to get a consistent trajectory hahaha . Thanks Playa!!!!

    Chipping like a putt works really well with a chipper - I even have a putter-grip on mine. Not that I cannot chip with other clubs, this just works better....;-)

    I use the 5 and 7 iron for most every chip of length...Rather that than hitting a really long putt from the fringe. Also the zero lie system is funny as can be...My partners lol when my birds are eagles and the eagles are albatrosses....On the par 3's the birds count as hole in ones...lol...I like finishing under par every round.😅

    Hey man, I love your content, you're one of the best, if not, golf CZcamsrs and the one I watch the most, but maybe don't use the word secret. I know this video is way beyond a quick fix and you take us on a deep dive of many aspects of great golf, but you know "secret" is golfers kryptonite and tricks them to thinking that there is quick fix, and one or two things I need to do and my whole game is going to be amazing. Maybe you're being kitschy. If so, carry on! If not, you know just as much as anybody that it takes digging it out of the dirt, grinding, getting really great consistent instruction, practicing, playing, get your brain right and so on over a long period of time. Saying "secret" even just on your video thumbnails just reinforces the wrong perspective on golf improvement, it's golfs version of clickbait, and worse yet, i would argue actually inhibits peoples progression. Your content is much better than that, it does not need anything clickbait at all to get in to this rich dense content!! just food for thought. keep crushen Playa!

    Hey Playa, got a question for ya. How do you play a chip when you're on top of a small hill on the edge of the green above the hole? What type of shot do we go for here? High loft and drop it down?

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  Před 2 lety

      High loft if pin is close
      Experiment. Hit more than one chip

    • @zerofactor7871
      @zerofactor7871 Před rokem +1

      One of my favorite lies, because I don't have to do any work. I just use a putter, give it a very light tap on the line it needs to be on and let it trundle down the hill and onto the green. Unless the rough is super thick, this is totally doable and is a lot less stressful than trying to send it straight up and down with a high lifted wedge. Why waste energy thinking about how to make the ball behave, when you can just let nature do the work for you? Just roll the thing down the hill, don't get cute with it. In my experience, using your surroundings to your advantage is a great way to simplify golf. Instead of hitting a flop shot over the bunker, eat the stroke and chip it to a side of the green where you can putt your way in. Instead of trying to hit a 60° over a 15' tall tree and hope that it doesn't fly off the back, just hit a punchy 6 iron and let it ricochet off the bumps and divots until it finds the green - a punch shot is infinitely more reliable than a flop shot in almost every case. Think your way around the problem, too many people confuse themselves by trying to play shots that aren't designed to work with the course.

    Matt - I don't know if you have a specific video about hitting from a bunker with very hard sand or verry little sand. I'm talking about a trap where if you hit the sand with a ball on a steep descent, the ball will bounce 3-4 feet straight up off the sand. I can hit the ball well out of fluffy sand. The hard sand gives me a lot of trouble. So far this year, @ Key West Golf Club and Blue Ridge Trail in Mountain Top, PA, both had this hard pan sand in their traps! :( Can you give us tips how to get out of hard sand?

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  Před 2 lety +1

      Square the face don’t open the face, and hit the sand behind the ball with the edge of the wedge not the sole.
