I was born at a very young age age…. Shit.. me too bro
I'm now officially mind blown. 🤯🤪
😂😉🤣🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🤪🤯
I thought I was the only one
Oh man me too 😂
@@splimbo4877 & me too. :-o
no way thats the first thing i hear when i click on lol
Love following this lefty journey. I far that if I tried it, I'd transform from "Not a Scratch Golfer" to "Not a Golfer."
Yeah me too, this way your game better demonstrates the advice you're giving out.
Are you sure your swing isnt a lefty swing already? Haha jk I love your stuff too. I wish I could come to the event you are planning at PGA West. Next time i hope.
I'm a right-hander and I am not amphibious 🤣
Glad to hear Matty Boom Boom is land based

I use to play competitively in High School and stopped because it stopped being fun. I felt pressured to make great shots all the time and that I needed to be attacking the pin on every hole. I found your videos last month after my Daughter was born and I watch them while feed her. You have encouraged me to get back into golf and I have been using the way of the Playa for a few rounds and I’m enjoying the game again! I think my daughter also enjoy listening to you just talk through a round of golf, its very peaceful and she usually falls asleep! 😂 Thank you and please keep sharing the way of the Playa!
Pretty much same story but I also played in college. Was in a very bad accident and I picked golf back back up after many years of being gone and NGL it was extremely frustrating being good at a young age and then absolutely being terrible. Lol good luck on your journey I'm just now finally starting to be able to hit decent again.
I fall asleep listening to Matty too. I’m 62. LOL
8:59 - good advice for all golfers is to make sure you laugh after a not so good shot. A sense of humor is often the best club in your bag. Until you're playing for 7 figures as a pro, golf is about having fun. Also, I am amphibious - I started off as a leftee (dad's clubs), then switched to my natural right handed, and I can slice from both sides of the ball equally well.
Had a round recently where i turned into the joker.....
I love the lefthand approach. You’re swinging like a beginner again it is awesome to watch.
I'm turning 40 and was looking to start playing golf, and your channel is a massive insperation to get started and to learn the game. Such a great teacher.
LOL at 11:11 "... and I'm not amphibious..." Nice.
I was born at a very young age. Gold! 🤣🤣🤣
I have watched so many of your videos Mat, and i know all of the ways of the playa, and yet i still enjoy watching your beginners stuff. And then to do it playing as lefty, WHATTA PLAYYAAAA, WHATTA BOSSS 😂🙌🌟🇦🇺
Absolute gold Matty. Especially the part about not tying yourself up in knot looking at 1,000’s of YT swing fix videos. Lessons with a pro are much much better
Love this series with the lefty. this is the same as financial advice, dating advice, career advice - when it comes from someone in a place of great success (in your case scratch) a lot of the advice is easy to discount , and hard to know which expert to believe. When you say "just play calmly and make smart decisions" and then you pure a 3 iron 250 yards, its hard for me to apply that advice to my game. Watching you preach the same, and then duff your lefty driver or hybrid, its great lead by example. Cant wait to keep watching you on this journey, hope its as fun for you as it is for us to watch.
Very good advise!! I totally agree. I did reach a point in my 30s where I had myself twisted up in my mind about how to swing the club, approach the game, etc. I took two years off. I went to a practice facility and started over when I started to play again. A smart pro put the same strategy you described into my thinking. It was not mechanics...it was mental. Golf was fun again and I was scoring better then ever.
love the tips about imperfection, they will help me feel more confidential on course next time
This is probably the most encouraging tips for beginners. Good job
Great video, and good tips on keeping it real when playing. When playing as a high handicapper I agree with the suggestions. Someone once said that hitting the ball 150 yards each swing will put you on most greens up to 450 yards. Then maybe a 2 putt and you are playing bogie golf. Not bad if you are not a scratch golfer. Then improving your swing can reduce strokes to the green and you will soon start to make a few pars. Happy days!!!
Ive been using game improvement irons and recently got the Takomo 101T’s. Great irons and not as forgiving as my previous irons and I also lost some distance but I love that I get to work on my game again.
Another great video. Two things that really resonated with this old fart. I wish I had lessons when I started. The other thing is the old golf digest articles. The tip for fixing a slice was exactly the opposite of the advice the week before.
Been watching the videos a while Matt. Shot a career low 91 today using the whata playa strategy. I can smell the 89 and better coming soon
Definitely the best attitude of any of the YT golf channels, and I love the no-nonsense 'address the ball and hit it' way you have. Maybe it's not 'deliberate', but I think it is a great indicator of your perspective. It's only a game, after all, and the point is to have some fun. I'm a leftie, and have of course tried R-handed clubs from time to time when no lefties available - so massive respect to anyone as amphoteric as you clearly are. Probably down to your off-the-scale emotional-pH, I reckon. Gonna buy me some RH clubs, tees, and balls now. Confidential as ever.
Again. Thank you so much. It’s enjoyable to watch your videos. And you are right. 😊😊😊👍🏻👏🏻🇩🇪
Great video and thanks for sharing your tips. Your content is inspiring.
Great Video! Thank you 🔥👏💪🫶
that was really helpful, thank you.
Truly a deep intro 😁 And yeah, I wish I'd taken lessons earlier. In the words of my old clarinet teacher, it's so much easier to learn good habits than to unlearn bad ones and replace them with good ones. I'm now trying to unlearn 12 years of bad habits and I feel it's much harder than if I'd just learned it the right way first time. But hey, I'm not trying to get on the PGA, just trying to have a relaxing fun day, and this channel has done wonders for my mental game. I'm there to enjoy myself, not to shoot a spectacular score. Thanks for another wonderful video
If I could go back and do only one thing, it would be lessons from the start
Amphibious! Love it GS!
Watching this video makes me feel better. When I’m out on the course as a beginner i felt pressured with the group I’m matched up to hit perfect shots.
Hey Matt, you are a "breath of fresh air" in golf instruction world. Thanks for your inspiring, helpful, and entertaining videos😊
Great video Playa! You should have a match play with other CZcamsrs lefty!
Totally agree with what you are saying here...excellent advice for a beginner. I have been playing off and on for 40 years and now I use only 5 clubs in my bag. Driver, 5 Iron , 8 Iron, PW and putter. It has made me appreciate the game a lot more...and guess what?...I score pretty ok with just those....my short game is decent and that's where the game is really at. I subscribed to your channel.
What course is this BTW?
Very informative, thank you for the tips!
Thank you playa
Your voice is so calming!
Best instruction for players!

Love this video ❤
I’m actually reading Golf is not a Game of Perfect right now - it is the single best golf book I’ve ever read. If you haven’t read it yet and can’t get out of a slump, read it. If you’ve already read it, do it again. Helped me so much with my game.
One of my fav shirts. A classic 🔥
i was born at an old age so a lot of this advice was confusing to me but i figured out and just shot a 66, thanks playa
thank you for your service
LIV golf offer is in the mail when AK falls off the wagon
I really wish I had seen your lessons years and years ago, as I was a weekend warrior who was constantly changing my swing with the next best ‘pro swing tip’. The more i played it seemed the worst I became. Once i stopped trying to ‘fix’ my swing my playing became immensely better.
Adams V4 hybrids.... The #6 is one of my favorite clubs.
Great advice all the way around.
Excellent video.
I'm thinking of trying lefty golf for fun! Great vid. You'll break 90 in no time
I think so. I think my best is 97 or 98 I haven't checked back at the footage yet
I can remove some silly shots
But I see 89 coming before too long
This channel makes me smile 😃
love the vids!
Thanks as a beginner , you had help me a lot
Top 6 video right here. I love a helpful video. Bazoongas to the target.
I love this whole channel. Totally speaking my language.
I love that he hits it very well with such an abbreviated swing . Maybe has rotator cuff injuries ?
I am a right handed golfer and if i swing too long left handed, i cant hit the ball. I just miss it completely
Hi Matty, fun segment, great content, just goes to show you don't need a classical swing to have a good score 👍
Required viewing for all newbies. Good stuff, Chief Baus.
Also adding my #20 - when Range Advice Guy comes up to you to give you tips, tell him to piss off.
Here is what I learned in my years through golf. First, how does an average, beginner hit a golf ball on the face of a club? When it comes to learning golf, this question proceeds everything else. So, does he stand alongside the ball and tell himself that he is going use his eye/hand coordination to hit the ball on the face of the club? The result for the average beginner will be whiffs, fat hits, and wild-looking half-hits. Many outings of that. So, tip #1, practice (a lot) so your golf swing is a product of muscle memory and therefore consistent. Use plastic practice balls to save a lot of time. Swing a golf club at dandelions growing the yard. Then, after establishing that swing, _your swing_ , learn where that swing puts the head of the club(s) in front of you at the theoretical point of the golf ball. Again, I suggest plastic practice balls.
I’ve been playing for almost 20 years now (36 now) and after really buying into your “play safe, keep it in play” philosophy I have shaved 5-7 strokes off my game, losing way less balls and just generally having more fun. You are in face the baus my friend
Okay that’s crazy, I’m sixteen watching this because I am going to play 9 holes with my dad for the first time and I’m trying to learn some atuff
where is this course? I love everything about it and the beautiful countryside
Haha this was brilliant. The whole time I thought you were playing you’re best but you’re right handed 🤣 likeable content for sure
I like what you say. I subscribed. Thanks
You such a non amphibious inspiration. Waddaplaya, baus.
This is an awesome video
Best golf tips I ever got were...'always take more club than you think you need' and 'hit down to make the ball go up.'
As always another great video 👌🏼! Can you please publish videos on easy swing and free back pain for senior golfers? The best technique for the grip and the posture , short game and putting?
Not my specialty playa
Really tempted to have a left handed go myself . Something tells me it will make me a better right handed playa
I was born at a very young age as well but didn't start playing golf until my mid-30s. I wish I had started playing earlier in life. I love the game even though I am not confidential in my consistency.
Just wanted to say I loved your April Fool's day video! That made my day! Keep it up Playa!
I started playing recently because my son got a free membership at the local club. I thought he would lose interest so didn’t go at first but he stuck with it so I tagged along. I got along really well with the old dude who was teaching him and he gave me a set of good clubs really cheap, his son works in the pro shop and gives me discounts on fees, tees and balls etc . You are right, golfers just want someone chilled to hang with and play, no one cares if you suck as long as you are fun to be around, then they want you to play all the time 😂
Did you order your takomo left hand clubs? If so did you order knowing your lie angle etc or did you just buy off the shelf?
Straight off the shelf regular lite shafts.
I have played in tournaments wearing that exact, same, outfit. Waddaplaya!
i saw the price around 500 euro's but how many clubs do you get just pitching wedge sand wedge and iron 7? or a full pacakage :P? nice video btw bob ross
The right of passage is the blister you WILL get on your right hand thumb and pinky during the month long OBSESSION you will develop at some point maybe a year into starting. Where you’re going to the range every other day and playing 2 full rounds a week. You’ll figure you’re issues out real quick by the time those blisters heal.
You make far more sense to me, then all these other golf videos! Most of them show you what not to do, 10 different ways! Then they’ll show you the right way once! By the end of there videos, your head’s spinning and you’ve learned nothing! Thank you again! Somebody once said, “Keep it simple stupid” not sure who said it, but it’s true!
This man has done more for golf than the sum of all the other golf youtubers combined
Lefty here, great to visualise tips from a left swing
You are doing great for someone who isn't amphibious! 🦎
@Golf Sidekick
Could you do a detailed video about assessing lies? From the fairway, rough, sand... water hazards 😆?
This man is so helpful towards us noobies, truly underated teacher
Love that you can show the playas how to play lefty the smart way. No need to be amphibious!
I'm confidential that this guy could one day become truly amphibious. Keep playing like a boss bro.
Fascinating to see in the intro photo that you are now playing left handed
do you have a crowd or are you adding the oohs and ahhs?
I’ve gotten my putts down to 2-3 instead of 5-6 pretty quickly, makes the whole game more fun .
Love his strangulation of English vocabulary. 😅
All hail the Guru. I wish that I was confidential enough to try playing lefty when not being anything close to being amphibious. Please dont ever stop dropping wisdom boyfriend.
Holding that finishing pose after a 50-yard worm burner is one of the greatest things I’ve seen lately.
Nice second shot at 9.45.
Wishon Golf 730 hybrid irons have 6 deg difference between clubs so you can get away from carrying 14 clubs in your bag or just take out the odd number clubs and only play the even number clubs.
I was also born at a very young age. Hehe Love your vids man!
But seriously. This is some gr8 advice. My lady started playing this year. She is following your content. I am scared of loosing against her, soon.
wen did u switch lefty?
the best tip is to think of the path of the club head going as close to directly backwards/forwards in straight line as possible (if looking from above)
Best tip for YOU personally. Every one has different visual’s and apply different meanings to words. That is why personalized swing mechanic lessons are infinitely better than random tips on swing mechanic feel’s and ideas. Not everyone sees the same, hears the same or feels the same feels.
@golfsidekick is there an app you can recommend to track club distance?

Not amphibious. Maybe a bi-swinger? My daughters a lefty but picked up golf a year ago playing right handed. She says it feels more natural to her. Confuses the hell out of me, but you are improving as a lefty so fast I guess it may not matter. Unless I tried it! Great video!
My best tip is the club has a lot more power than you think. Focus on contact and the ball will go
Best opening line
Heard the word confidential, instantly liked the vid.
The hint and then later reveal that you're not a lefty is wild. That's just impressive
I'm confused. Why isn't everyone accept maybe scratch/pros using game improvement irons? Shouldn't everyone be using the easiest clubs to hit? What's the point of using clubs that may "look better" but are harder to hit? I don't get that.
just played with my cousin who used to be a former national team golfer and he used a set of GI irons and scored low 80s without recent practice 😂 he can also game CBs/MBs or event rental clubs with no problem.... meanwhile im a beginner that shoots in the mid 90s to low 100s regardless of what i use. it's not in the clubs
I like these videos where you are dexter fluid. More people should be this honest.
"Accept your station in life, it will only get better from here"
spittin bangers in a golf tips vid
Can you do a video on golf terms? Like pulled it, pushed it, etc. common things you hear golfers say on the course that at times sounds like another language
Yes I can I will do that for you playa - Wednesday ok?
@@GolfSidekick you’re a boss. Wednesday it is!
Impressed that you can play leftie too!
As a lefty who plays right handed (due to no lefty clubs when I was young), this is making me want to embrace the inner lefty and get some clubs
I'm amazed at your ability to go lefty.
Whats considered a chipper club?
