This is the best all-around putting video. Most of us will not hit driver 300 and still find it. Once a player can keep the golf ball on the course, putting becomes the whole game.
This is the best putting instruction I have seen. I've been putting on the metal yard stick since watching this. Could only make 5/10 to start. Regularly knock ten in a row now. Can't wait for next golf season. Love your content. Coolness factor plus great advice. Keep it up!
I just want to thank your for this Video. I took all your advice, and started practising. I just played a round yesterday, and I shaved 8 shots off my game as I sunk more pars and less 2 puts! Thank you!!
The biggest tip that helped my putting was one I heard from Phil Michelson: Bring the putter back 25% and follow thru 75% It’s not a hard and fast rule, I usually do around 30% back and 60-70% forward, but it’s a good thought to have in your head to up your chances of following thru on your putts. Whenever I start to miss putts shorts, it’s usually because I’m not following thru properly. So, sometimes I’ll exaggerate my follow thru and that will fix my leaving the putts short issue
Ian! I started working on the same thing a couple years ago, what a great method. I've gained so much confidence, guys I golf with are amazed at the lag when I miss and amount of long putts that end up dropping. I do practice almost every day which makes a big difference, you get luckier with more purposeful practice.
player, one hour video and you are teaching everything it took me ten years to learn and apply. For the average golfer this is the holy grail of putting, I am just started back at golf after a 2 year absence and will work 15 minutes on distance with my four wedges for approach shots, Take those numbers and put them on the shaft of my club; Then I am going to use two of my wedges and spend thirty minutes chipping and pitching, Then I am going to do the goflcircle until I can make everything from four feet, after completing three two and one footers. Then I will work on uphill, downhill and side putts, until I earn my head on my pillow, Then I am going to the range and hit one hundred, one hundred yard wedges, After that if I still like myself I am going to hit five drivers, I analyze why I hit five crap drives and formulate a plan for my next session for drivers practice. I take the fixes for the five crap drives and I try to hit 100 yard drives utilizing the fixes in my swing, The slow swing require me to control my rhythm, focus on my turn, my weight shift, my swing plane and impact position. Next session will be full swing drives, but the majority of the practice will be short game; short game and putting. You are right. There are no answers, you just have to practice and figure it out for yourself, Thanks you for the excellent putting tutorial.
In May, I used my wedge as a putter during the final 12 holes my club championships after my putter suffered a catastrophic injury following 30m helicopter flight. Once the putter healed, I fell in love with her, and our relationship is back on track. Thank you to the wedge for interrupting the pattern and getting us back on the path! Great video Matt, the ruler have been ordered.
I just wanted to say thank you Matt. I am a golfer that would shoot anywhere from 82-96. Very inconsistent.. your videos helped me conquer my putting and chipping yips. Also it helped me become a more stress free golfer. On the road to break 80 this summer. I wish I could video it for your channel. It’s because of you that I will conquer my goal.

Quick little testimonial... Been watching the Way of the Playa vids for a while and thought I'd give it a go. Literally, the first round played in a couple of years and I was hitting the ball more confidently than ever off the tee with the 4 iron. Immediately found I could swing with a mix of violence/confidence that absolutely made the game INSTANTLY more FUN! Ended up ditching the driver for the entire round and just hit 4 irons off every par 4 and 5 to find myself mid-fairway. Except the longest par 5 on the course where I used my 3 wood and crushed it using the new-found confidence off the tee. #stressfreegolf. Awesome tactics my man! Also, I took this putting vid to the practice green with me and it was the most fun I've ever had on said green lolz. Will be practicing a lot more putting with these drills. THANK YOU MATT!!!
Best putting video EVER!!! I bought my 48" steel ruler, and have been putting in the reps. Thank you for mentioning Mike Malaska's video, You will Never putt the same. Complete game changer, and I recognize how you use it to putt like a BAUS. FYI, after three nights of putting drills, I went out and made everything inside of 8 feet (home course). My buddies were blown away. One more thing. Your videos about breaking 80, course management, on course lesson with female pros, etc., all are about "being willing to do what others are not willing to do" (putting drills, practicing chipping/pitching, teeing off with a 2 iron). You rock!!! p.s. When making my putts yesterday (two birdies), I heard your "birdie music" playing in my head. Is there a link somewhere for that sample? Off to the range for putting/chipping practice. Cheers, from SoCal
These tips are gold, thanks. I have spent so much energy focusing on "Method" practicing my technique, and when I feel that I have hit me method, the result is secondary. That way even a bad bounce of some random bump on the green and I miss it doesn't matter so much. I hit me method and that makes me feel good.
Literally the best putting instruction I have ever seen. I couldn't putt more than 2 in a row down the yard stick. 10 in a row is quite easy now. Putting was the worse part of my game, now I don't fear putting. I have been doing this drill almost daily since I first watched it. Crazy, I've watched this several times. Thanks for the excellent content.

same here.. Yesterday I managed to shoot a birdy on the most difficult hole of my home course (par4 with what can be considered an island green with a very heavy slope), that not even 2 months ago i regularly made triple bogeys on.. now i'm usually at par or bogie thanks to following the bausman's course management videos and planting all the feathers i can find..

1 hour 7 minutes? waddavideo! I signed up for a greenreading/putting course tomorrow, so i'm now interested which of the two I will gain more from.. getting a snack and and a drink and then i'll watch the whole thing.
@@GolfSidekick TLDR: the course was great, especially in addition to your video! Full version: This was the "basic" course so we stayed within the distance of about 3 meters to the hole.. it was quite technical and we discussed the main topics that make a ball go into the hole (ball-speed, the slope and distance) as well as how to find the zero-line (no slope sideways, just up or downhill) and then calculate where the correct aim-point should be.. the course took about 4 hours with a bit less than half of it being theory and the rest actually practicing.. on the putting green we started out with a "test" from 4 different directions (for 2 of which the hole was on the 0-line, so pure uphill and downhill and the others were sloping a bit sideways as well). each direction had 5 different distances to the hole and we were given points depending on where the ball finishes.. most points obviously being in the hole,, 0 being too short or longer than about 60 cm behind the hole. we noted where we missed (left or right.. as short was no option ;)) as this was more or less the foundation of our greenreading abolities on which we could start building on.. this "game" is rather well known, and i've done it in the past rather often for putting practice, however never taking the 0-line into consideration, which i will do from now onward, so i can practice using aiming points based on calculations, and playing less by only feel. we discussed methods on how to judge slope (or at least the basics, so where's the 0-line and estimate the percentage of the slope) and then actually measuring with a digital level-meter to see how far off we were. given that we were only 3 students (minimum should have been 4, but he didn't want to cancel on us) he could spend quite some time with each of us, looking also at general putting technique, which was good with most of us though.. we covered topics like growing direction of the grass, different green conditions (i.e the "donut" shape around the hole in the afternoon that Dave Pelz also mentioned in his books) and he gave us some other hints (i.e. the water-drainage can usually be found at the lowest parts next to the green, so this can help find the 0-line and then read the slopes a bit as well) the advanced course will be from 7 meters upwards (i don't know what's between 3 and 7 meters? ;)), more in-depth on grain direction, changing/multiple slope-directions and a bit more.. all in all i would say the course was definitely worth it, even when it must have looked weird to see us standing with a ruler next to a hole ;) I'll say both, the course, as well as your video were well worth it and both have given me great points to improve and focus on when practicing my putting in future. And yes, i'll spend quite some time on the practice greens at my club moving forwards.
Yes. Practice. Practice. PRACTICE!! It lets you get to know your swing, and once you know what your swing does, you can then start to FEEL the putt. Putting is ALL FEEL. You NEED to know what swing you need to put on it to get it in (or close). But you can't feel a putt if you don't have a consistent PRACTICED SWING to feel it with. I literally typed this as I was watching the start of the video, because I know what he is going to say, I just like this guys videos. T'would be great to play a round with you mate!
maybe its cuz im a little buzzed, but this is your best video yet haha. what a drill sergeant putting coach! YOU DON'T GET TO SLEEP UNTIL YOU ARE ABLE TO COMMAND THIS RULER, MAGGOT!
Love it Matt.....I employed the metal rule drill a few weeks back, plus taking note of my putting scores,....this is a brilliant video, and I shall work on more ways of the playa from now on, keep up the good work Captain.,,, it is appreciated.
Confidence goes a long way. I've gained confidence from your bermuda grass putting video, and shot 2 under 34 bogey-free for 9 holes. Was extremely solid overall, but it certainly helps to read grain. I find grain affects chipping as well, and I've gone from 40% scrambling to around 65-80%. Confidence found.
So good to see Jmac practicing your techniques and getting great results soon after... my own putting has improved (with minimal practice time) just by picking the spot. I'm keen to try wedge putting next. Thanks man.
His new videos are awesome, some great stuff in there! His time on the greens have really paid off for him. Although it's not a quick fix. The short game needs work. 75% of your time practicing should be inside 120!
@@GolfSidekick Cool, I'll be watching. Between you and Phil Mickleson I got this :) Tried wedge putting yesterday and Phil's open stance with eyes behind the ball... man felt like I couldn't miss on the practice green.
Great channel filled with lots of good tips. Can't thank you enough Matt, last year I scored in the mid 80's and would play high risk stupid shots. This year I've been scoring around 75-79 consistently playing smart golf and focusing on my chipping/putting

I have been watching this channel for a while and have enjoyed countless videos and my game has profited from this playas wisdom, yet I am embarrassed to say, I still have not figured out what "BAUS" means and only now scraped together the courage to ask. Could someone enlighten me? :(
Legendary suckage rant. Consider myself flogged. In the meantime, I am reducing the clubs in my bag to a 2 iron, 7-PW, 54 and 60 wedge, and a Baus putter. At my age, I have been getting used to less in the bag, so it's all good. 👍🏌️😁🌴⛳
Dude no lie, ever since I started taking the pins out and anticipating the sound of the ball going into the hole I started putting much better. Crazy but it works!
That accelerate through the ball is a great advice. I do indeed swing back too far and end up putting the brakes on when I'm about to strike the ball. Going to try this next time. PS: That little 'stache ain't doing you any favours. 😂
Hi matt, Awesome video.. very helpful.. lot of actual information that high handicappers can apply. Could you please do a video on how to read the greens and how to pick the right line?
The brain is amazing. So many people think it's new age and weird that whatever you think, you can become or you can do,.....or NOT become or NOT do. Think it, believe it and your brain starts agreeing with your actions and vice versa

1 hour 7 minutes? waddavideo! I signed up for a greenreading/putting course tomorrow, so i'm now interested which of the two I will gain more from.. getting a snack and and a drink and then i'll watch the whole thing.
How was your course?
@@GolfSidekick TLDR: the course was great, especially in addition to your video!
Full version: This was the "basic" course so we stayed within the distance of about 3 meters to the hole.. it was quite technical and we discussed the main topics that make a ball go into the hole (ball-speed, the slope and distance) as well as how to find the zero-line (no slope sideways, just up or downhill) and then calculate where the correct aim-point should be..
the course took about 4 hours with a bit less than half of it being theory and the rest actually practicing..
on the putting green we started out with a "test" from 4 different directions (for 2 of which the hole was on the 0-line, so pure uphill and downhill and the others were sloping a bit sideways as well). each direction had 5 different distances to the hole and we were given points depending on where the ball finishes.. most points obviously being in the hole,, 0 being too short or longer than about 60 cm behind the hole.
we noted where we missed (left or right.. as short was no option ;)) as this was more or less the foundation of our greenreading abolities on which we could start building on..
this "game" is rather well known, and i've done it in the past rather often for putting practice, however never taking the 0-line into consideration, which i will do from now onward, so i can practice using aiming points based on calculations, and playing less by only feel.
we discussed methods on how to judge slope (or at least the basics, so where's the 0-line and estimate the percentage of the slope) and then actually measuring with a digital level-meter to see how far off we were.
given that we were only 3 students (minimum should have been 4, but he didn't want to cancel on us) he could spend quite some time with each of us, looking also at general putting technique, which was good with most of us though..
we covered topics like growing direction of the grass, different green conditions (i.e the "donut" shape around the hole in the afternoon that Dave Pelz also mentioned in his books) and he gave us some other hints (i.e. the water-drainage can usually be found at the lowest parts next to the green, so this can help find the 0-line and then read the slopes a bit as well)
the advanced course will be from 7 meters upwards (i don't know what's between 3 and 7 meters? ;)), more in-depth on grain direction, changing/multiple slope-directions and a bit more..
all in all i would say the course was definitely worth it, even when it must have looked weird to see us standing with a ruler next to a hole ;)
I'll say both, the course, as well as your video were well worth it and both have given me great points to improve and focus on when practicing my putting in future.
Would be great indeed, don't rule it out. I am going for world domination
maybe its cuz im a little buzzed, but this is your best video yet haha. what a drill sergeant putting coach! YOU DON'T GET TO SLEEP UNTIL YOU ARE ABLE TO COMMAND THIS RULER, MAGGOT!
This is a fantastic video! Well done. Thanks for such quality instruction.
most comprehensive and funny putting video out there...
exactly the video I needed, putting was weak today, gonna get back out there and practice with this new info tomorrow !
Nice!
Crushing the poofies like a Baus! Love it! You did a video on one of my biggest problems, but made it sensible and uber long! Thumbs up.
This video couldn't be better timed for me as my distance control has gone haywire, some absolute gems in here Chief Playa, muchos gracias!👍🏻💥👊🏻
J Mac also used it and his distance control is SPOT ON now! Great videos of him coming soon!
Golf Sidekick had a practice sesh and already 100% better, thanks Geeza...👍🏻
Awesome training
Great way to wake up on Saturday morning after I completely sucked ass putting in a match play tournament yesterday. Need to become wattaputta!
Love it Matt.....I employed the metal rule drill a few weeks back, plus taking note of my putting scores,....this is a brilliant video, and I shall work on more ways of the playa from now on, keep up the good work Captain.,,, it is appreciated.
That's the way. You do that ruler drill for a year, you will be the go to man for 4 footers
This video just makes the wait for my purple Playa shirt that much harder! 😂
They'll be shipping in the next 10 days or so playa!
Very good Vid, lots of valuable information and tools to use to get better at putting and relaxing on the green.
Great video, the info on the grain on the greens is priceless. thank you.
You have any videos,,,,,ABP,,,,,had to use your 6 iron shot last round,,,,,IT WORKED,,,,, 😎
you are wise in the way of science!
WADDAPLAYA! Thanks for watching big poppa!!! Are you part of the Facebook Group yet??
@@GolfSidekick I need to rejoin Facebook but I'd for sure join the group
Dude you are so funny. Love the way you teach. Keep up the awesome work mate!
🤣🤣🤣 @ "the Michelle Wie bend over and take it" putting stance! 🤣🤣🤣
At last, someone with the courage to say we will set up differently on different days because we have different feels. Break away from rigid method. It's an art and we feel not a blueprint to be followed slavishly.
The scientific putting method makes people mental. How can everyone fit into the same system? It's crazy
Time to go to the putting green!
Great video love the way they are so relaxed and tips great
every time i go to the practice green i see some guy in a weird hat talking to a camera and it scares me away
My daughter wants to learn the game so we’re taking a series of group lessons together that start this afternoon. First lesson is putting, LOL! Love your videos
Durbanboy UK She did well, thanks! Even better was after the lesson she told me she had fun and looks forward to going back next week for the chipping class. Good times
I have been watching this channel for a while and have enjoyed countless videos and my game has profited from this playas wisdom, yet I am embarrassed to say, I still have not figured out what "BAUS" means and only now scraped together the courage to ask. Could someone enlighten me? :(
Fantastic. Playas....If you know a beginner or someone who struggles with putting, show them this video.
Legendary suckage rant. Consider myself flogged. In the meantime, I am reducing the clubs in my bag to a 2 iron, 7-PW, 54 and 60 wedge, and a Baus putter. At my age, I have been getting used to less in the bag, so it's all good. 👍🏌️😁🌴⛳
Nice playa! I love the sound of that
Watching this again to remind myself to putt
Ruler drill is gold BAUS! 😆 try do some lag puts on it, like you’re putting down hill. Very hard but satisfying when you get it 👍
Dude no lie, ever since I started taking the pins out and anticipating the sound of the ball going into the hole I started putting much better. Crazy but it works!
I believe it. That's science
Pure gold - thanks Baus!
The power of the HAT
Dude, you are so awesome ! Loooooove your way of the playa!
Hi Matt, i have trained putting and this weekend i played 75 | Whadda playa !!!
Great stuff Matt, waddacoach 💪 awesome video with very helpful points
I am not a coach my good man, I am merely a messenger
dad walking past at 23:37
it's the little details I appreciate
Guy just can't stay out my shot!
That accelerate through the ball is a great advice. I do indeed swing back too far and end up putting the brakes on when I'm about to strike the ball. Going to try this next time.
PS: That little 'stache ain't doing you any favours. 😂
Great listen to sir
Bru? I wish every golf instructor had a little bit of the golf sidekick in 'em, he's super entertaining.
more zen golf tips... love it
Ha ha! I have those same grips! Love the Winn Dri-Tac
Awesome video m8. 👍

Keep up the good work playa 😎
Hi matt,
Awesome video.. very helpful.. lot of actual information that high handicappers can apply.
Could you please do a video on how to read the greens and how to pick the right line?
This a monster but I love it. Good to see you an Jmac taking styling tips from me and my golf 😂 I’m sure matching Audi’s are just around the corner
Wait til you see my random outtakes videos. Lol
Zaterdagmiddag opwarmer. Waddahourlong❤️
LOL see if you can make it through! It's way long but I thought...why not
net een rondje gelopen.. dus nu ff biertje erbij en kijken :)
Golf Sidekick 2 uur is ook goed, meest gebruikte club

Great advice! Bro - you are funny! Thanks I needed that, you described me several times!
Your brain is gonna go *nah bruh* 😂 sadly I felt that one
The brain is amazing. So many people think it's new age and weird that whatever you think, you can become or you can do,.....or NOT become or NOT do. Think it, believe it and your brain starts agreeing with your actions and vice versa
