This man didn’t just help his daughter, he’s helped me. After 25 years of struggling with anger, his words made a difference in my brain. Now everytime I’m angry, I hear his words. I needed a father figure like that.

At this point, all I can say is to follow his advice, and don't hold on to it for too long, cause otherwise, you will start to crack like me. It hurts, anger hurts, and I have never learned to let go of the anger, the fear, and the sorrow. More appears, but the old never left, and it just builds up within until you shatter.

I've had to do the same thing with my mother.
It's a simple process but it takes a huge amount of effort. First step is to accept and love yourself. The rest will come naturally. As your respect for yourself grows and solidifies, you won't allow yourself to internalize any unnecessary negativity.

The daughter said “no!” And the mother dragged her to her room for time out and she was crying and yelling violently. Then she ran out to the living room and was hyperventilating and crying hard. I asked my friend if I could try something, sat next to the child and said,
“You’re angry, it’s okay. It’s okay to be angry. But the anger will pass. You’ll feel better. And once you feel better, it would be nice to apologize to (my girlfriend) about the phone. Because what happened made her sad. We’re not mad at all. Everything is fine. When you’re ready, you can come to us.”

Recently, I was mad about how I saw being treat in my house hold and he told me, “Your brain must be wired to not think correctly. You need to use logic and not whatever your doing”
He also basically told me I had a disorder. Man, I wanna leave my house so bad.

I got yelled at, insulted, screamed at, and grounded/spanked so much despite being a well behaved, straight A/B student that I felt like i wasn't allowed to have or show negative emotions of any kind. I'm so glad these little girls will get to grow up with such an empathetic father. He even genuinely apologized. Its important to teach your kids that its okay to feel bad and help them learn how to work through it.

@Crystal Blue, I had a wonderful friend named Jackie. She used to live in New Jersey, then she, her husband, her daughter with him, and her son from her first marriage moved to rural Pennsylvania.
While she lived in New Jersey, I saw her interact with her children both in public and at home. She was patient, kind, and firm; she would say a lot of things, but she never called her kids named, never made them feel like they were wrong or bad, she just let them know which things were acceptable in public places, and which were not.

@Terry Micmac Don’t underestimate children. Even if they don’t understand certain words they understand the tone and overall thing you’re trying to convey. Parents who disregard children and their feelings and thinking they’re too dumb to understand is the reason why children don’t open up or feel their thoughts are valid. Children aren’t mindless. They don’t know a lot at first but they are constantly learning and picking up information. Parents should keep that in mind when talking to their kids.
