The original line up was by far the best!. I've got chills on my spine every time I watch any of these live videos, just amazing. Real Musicians Making Fantastic Music. Terry Kath, Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, Daniel Seraphine, James Pankow and Walt Parazaider.
That's what people were talking about 41 years ago. When you say Chicago today, they think of a syrupy, light rock, greatest hits, use-ta-coulds. I wish everyone could see this video. Top of the game playing with tv deals and kick butt solos. How refreshing to see. I think I'm going to watch it 10 more times.
And let's not forget....one hell of an under-rated bassist!!!!....who had the pocket covered....sing AND play bass...really good bass...now that's talent...go Petey;-)!
Pete was underrated as bass player because he could sing his *** off. The whole band was underrated in my mind because of the extreme talent everyone possessed
What a rockin' tune! I love this one. The two highlights for me are Cetera's bass playing and Seraphine's drumming. Many say that the horn section was the heart and soul of Chicago, but I beg to differ. It was the incredible rhythm section of Seraphine, Kath, and Cetera that always steals the show.
"We can cut it in any key" ..... that says it all (from the album). 3 lead singers -- and a tight horn section with one of the greatest guitarists and another drummers of all trime. Perfection
One thing about Jimmy trombone. This guy has so much fun doing this. I've seen these guys in concert for 35 years and he's always on his game. 62 and goin' strong!
How freaking awesome would it have been to sit in on this recording session?! My favorite band in this history of EVER!! Nobody could touch these guys in their first ten years, as far as musicianship and simply phenomenal music!!!!
Hard to believe this song is going to be 50 years old. It still sounds as fresh and great as the first time I heard it back in 1985. I guess awesome has no expiration date.
This is the song I use to get my friends into Chicago. It has every element that makes this band truly great including lead vocals by all three singers. I always thought that Chicago VI was a somewhat lackluster follow up to V but this song on the album really blows me away. Totally worth the price of admission for this one song. I always wait for Peter's scream in the middle and then start dancing. I cant help it.
Chicago VI was the first album that my parents got me. I was probably 7 at the time. My Dad had never heard this song. I played it for him many years later, and....much like me, he lost his mind!!! Brilliant!
Love this tune Terry and Peter tore it up with the vocals and the band was cookin. and i agree the rhythm section of the original lineup was the best ever
WOW! ALWAYS loved this song, it is really one of the incredible examples of the three lead vocals working together fantastically! I love when Peter lets loose, Terry's gravelly vocals and Bobby's smooth vocals. When Terry says, "People got to get it together" I almost fall off my chair!!! Whoo! Jimmy, Walt, Lee and Danny, as always just amaze! Thanks Parkwaymania for the great post....
this is a great version of a great song :) .... I like this better than the album version. Its funkier, and Dannys shut down at the end is incredible. This is the Peter Cetera I knew and loved - his hard-edged rock vocals were really sensational. Too bad he caved into the demands to be a balladeer. he hasnt ever recovered from that.
Can you say "tight?" How do 7 guys come together with their songwriting skills, vocals, and musicianship? The heavens parted the day these guys hooked up
I've just finished reading "Street Player" by Danny Seraphine. While it is very admirable that they were determined to carry on after Terry Kath died and Peter Cetera left, they never again came close to this. What an amazing song.
Why wasnt stuff like this released as singles? They would have soared on the carts. This song rules. Chicago with all three singing with great quality video...awesome
And this group isnt in the R&R hall?. Man ..... this group has more talent in their toes than the other top 20 bands combined. They are THE band. They ARE ROCK!!!
Awesome indeed - I can't stop watching this video!! This is such an underrated song, but it does a great job of featuring all the things that made Chicago GREAT: a funky beat, shared vocals from the three leads, kickin' horn licks, Terry wailing on the guitar, Robert showing off his keyboard skills, and my idol Danny playing the crap out of the drums. This is MUSIC!!!!
Maybe my favorite Chicago song, especially this version at the ranch. A perfect showcase of their talent, a tight groove that most bands would die for. Every time I pick up my guitar I play this, thank you Chicago, you really were the best band ever!!
Yes, Terry was so special. But I read on one of their CD inserts that Doc Severinsen of Johnny Carson's band told them to continue because he was their No. 1 fan. They still did some great work on Hot Streets and Chicago 16 and 17. Bill Champlin brought in a fresh sound and a ton of talent. I'd argue that when Cetera left, it lost a lot of its soul.
Grew up spinning my older bros' records of early Chicago, but this one is new to me. Love seeing how much energy and fire these guys produce, even in a studio session!!!! Amazing!
I don't even know what to say.... I think I put this in my favorites twice. It is my favorite video ever! Where's your award. First off excellent quality for a 30++ year relic. Second one of my favorite songs. Albeit, an esoteric Chicago treat. Lastly, this is what I always hoped 'Music videos" would be. I want to see the masters at work. I just wish they filmed more Terry Kath for two obvious reasons. Thank you so much for the post!!!!
This whole "Chicago in the Rockies" special is now uploaded under "The Music of Chicago & related" channel. It's good quality except for a black bar that I think is covering up a digital counter.
I remember that Chicago had "specials" that I could catch on Canadian channels back in the 70's. Most took place at the Caribou Ranch. I remember Al Green as a guest star. Also, one of the stranger duets; Peter Cetera and Anne Murray (whose voice was deeper than Cetera's). I wonder if those are available as whole episodes?
Street player the moment I heard it I knew it was Chicago ... The whole album was fantastic. Yes w/o Terry it could never be the same but the boys talent still shines through and lifts people up.
And notice at 3:18... you hear Terry blow his dog-whistle.. to signal the end of the jam-solos!! :-) I notice that whistle in ALOT of the LIVE stuff.. Live in Japan '72 especially!! :)
Me and my band buddies watched this when it first aired over the trumpet & sax player's house (they were brothers). We were high school kids & soaking up everything musical that we could!!!
@itsstillfriday Physical whistle, I've seen him turn his head and do it. As conductor of this orchestra, Terry Kath had different signals, depending on if he was playing (whistle) or singing (raising his fist).
Like everyone else don't understand how Peter Cetera gave this up for the style of singing he chose. He could do it all and was amazing at it. Love to see this though.
those guys were playing before that to be perfect...Terry was an amazing guitar player as a solo guitar player and singing and keeping the beat as the same time..which is difficult.his playing showed us those chord substitutions and beat ..you can hear in every record of Chigago the rhythm of the guitar is on top in every song ..cause his guitar rhythm is good and innovative ..he sounded better than every session guitar player..some people said the bought Chicago records because the guitar player..terry one of the best studio recording rhythm cut was in "Call me " and the guitar alwasy on top..and as a solo guitar player he was one of the best of the world
This song simply kicked ass. It's one of many that Chicago recorded that didn't mesh with the musical image that their record company had for them as a top-40 group. One of my all-time favorite Chicago songs.
I no its not a big deal but look at wat terry does from 1:38 to 1:41 i mean even pankow is impressed. How many guitarists can improvise like that and shred. Right in the spotlight where he deserves to be to. "That was nice".
It doesn't get ANY better than this. The greatest band of all time at their peak.
This is classic Chicago at its best. It sure does make me miss Terry, though. What a gifted artist he was.
He sure was one of a kind.
Makes me miss Cetera, the voice of Chicago.
Man, this is one KICK ASS performance by the original band!
Robert Lamm is rocking on those keyboards! Love the original Chicago!

Yes before David Foster got ahold of it and Terry died
Best,band,ever,ln,rock,history
I love this tune - Robert,Peter and Terry all took lead vocals in one song!!
And let's not forget....one hell of an under-rated bassist!!!!....who had the pocket covered....sing AND play bass...really good bass...now that's talent...go Petey;-)!
Exactly my words. One of the reasons why I'm doing music - my father was a bass-player and used Chicago / Cetera to teach me to pick songs apart...
Pete was underrated as bass player because he could sing his *** off. The whole band was underrated in my mind because of the extreme talent everyone possessed
@@Dr.John1975They weren't underrated to me, they were rock superstars, grossly talented. To the ignorant people out there, they were underrated.
It was the combo of both
It's the whole band.
"We can cut it in any key" ..... that says it all (from the album). 3 lead singers -- and a tight horn section with one of the greatest guitarists and another drummers of all trime. Perfection
Seraphine: "That was nice" - understatement of *that* year!
One thing about Jimmy trombone. This guy has so much fun doing this. I've seen these guys in concert for 35 years and he's always on his game. 62 and goin' strong!
This is the CHICAGO I fell in love with! Awesome!
How freaking awesome would it have been to sit in on this recording session?! My favorite band in this history of EVER!! Nobody could touch these guys in their first ten years, as far as musicianship and simply phenomenal music!!!!
literally cannot stop watching this. Kath and Cetera are tearing it up, they made this band great
What about Danny Seraphines drumming? Holy sh*t
It was simply magic when Peter and Terry sang together. Dialouge parts 1 and 2 is proof of that.
Who is listening to this in May 2020???
Listening to it August 2020! Rockin
I love how Peter controls his own volume by starting his scream away from the mic then moving into it at 2:15. It makes a cool effect.
Kick-@$$ bass playing on Cetera's part.
While singing kick ass vocals....
These old videos are so much fun to watch. I don't understand how anyone can vote them thumbs down!
Hard to believe this song is going to be 50 years old. It still sounds as fresh and great as the first time I heard it back in 1985. I guess awesome has no expiration date.

Love this tune Terry and Peter tore it up with the vocals and the band was cookin. and i agree the rhythm section of the original lineup was the best ever
I rate this as a home run! All the players excell on this track.
Wow. An engineer that actually cares what's in the cans for the musicians.
That's RARE! (And appreciated....)
WOW! ALWAYS loved this song, it is really one of the incredible examples of the three lead vocals working together fantastically! I love when Peter lets loose, Terry's gravelly vocals and Bobby's smooth vocals. When Terry says, "People got to get it together" I almost fall off my chair!!! Whoo! I was listening to Chicago VI earlier today...they never were quite the same after Terry died...
Wow these boys got some chops. Sure do miss the old days, when music was good. Thanx for posting.
Can you say "tight?" How do 7 guys come together with their songwriting skills, vocals, and musicianship? The heavens parted the day these guys hooked up
Man, was this a good band.
I've just finished reading "Street Player" by Danny Seraphine. While it is very admirable that they were determined to carry on after Terry Kath died and Peter Cetera left, they never again came close to this. What an amazing song.
One of my faves from Chicago VI.
Pure soul going on here. A room full of extremely awesome talent let me tell ya.
Why wasnt stuff like this released as singles? They would have soared on the carts. This song rules. Chicago with all three singing with great quality video...awesome
Nice to see this is still up. A bunch of stuff disappeared today seems like.
One of my favorite Chicago tunes with Long Time No See!
I love the album version, but this really rocks. I wish the studio version ended like this one!
And this group isnt in the R&R hall?. Man ..... this group has more talent in their toes than the other top 20 bands combined. They are THE band. They ARE ROCK!!!
We need to change JP's nickname from Jimmy Trombone to Jimmy Hambone in this video! lol, I love how he hams it up for the tv cameras!
Any man that plays BONE is master of the universe. JP is one of them.
Holy JESUS Terry is gorgeous in this...pant
I still have the 8 track tape of Chicago VI with this song- awesome sound, awesome video, thanks for posting.
Chicago, showing how it's done in this forgotten classic! Fun as hell to see these guys in the studio; thx for posting!
Great song. It's so good to be able to see and hear Peter Cetera, when he was still cool.
+Venom101002
Agreed. Now he's a freaking dick.
NO he's not get over it already move on ,he's has his rights of how he wanted to do things for the hof they could have met in the middle
Wow!!! That was great!!
An under appreciated gem from the group's sixth album.
This is awesome
Awesome indeed - I can't stop watching this video!! Best track from VI, back in the days when Chicago could "cut in in any key"
Just Great Music - shows a different side of Chicago and that is they know how to ROCK!
This is FlatOutAwesome!
Been a fan since '87...never heard this song
Light years ahead of their time. No one could touch them. Virtuosic to the man.
To the person who mentioned Al Green, the bonus track on the digital download version of Chicago 6 is Al with Chicago. What a jam!
Maybe my favorite Chicago song, especially this version at the ranch. A perfect showcase of their talent, a tight groove that most bands would die for. Every time I pick up my guitar I play this, thank you Chicago, you really were the best band ever!!
Thanks for posting. It's a fantastic song, possibly (probably?) Chicago's greatest moment. I wish they'd break it out on tours.
Before Kath died in 1978, Chicago was the greatest band on the planet.
+Stephen Johnston
And without Terry, Laudir, Peter, Danny and Donnie they still rock. But Terry Kath was like no other, on that I completely agree.
The band changed completely after Kath died--they were never the same afterwards.
agree Kath was so important to this bands sound
Yes, Terry was so special. But I read on one of their CD inserts that Doc Severinsen of Johnny Carson's band told them to continue because he was their No. 1 fan. They still did some great work on Hot Streets and Chicago 16 and 17. Bill Champlin brought in a fresh sound and a ton of talent. I'd argue that when Cetera left, it lost a lot of its soul.
Jason Scheff never had the range that Cetera had...that was painfully obvious. And it got worse as Scheff got older.
One of my favorite bands doing what they did (and still do - minus some great members) best!
Love this song! ...and the only one sweating?....the drummer! Drummers rock!
gosh I miss this band
ALWAYS. ❤️ 😍 💖 LOVED BOBBYS PLAYING HE REALLY LET IT ALL GO IN THIS VIDEO!!
Class musicians each and everyone of them.
Grew up spinning my older bros' records of early Chicago, but this one is new to me. Love seeing how much energy and fire these guys produce, even in a studio session!!!! Amazing!
In regard to Feeling Stronger Every Day the writers are James Pankow - Trombone and Peter Cetera - Bass and Lead singer of the song.
jazzy & funk!
I was thinking the same thing. I couldnt think of anything better then being in that room ! So awsome!!!
This whole "Chicago in the Rockies" special is now uploaded under "The Music of Chicago & related" channel. It's good quality except for a black bar that I think is covering up a digital counter.
Frickin' Live! Kick ass!
I remember that Chicago had "specials" that I could catch on Canadian channels back in the 70's. Most took place at the Caribou Ranch. I remember Al Green as a guest star. This is simply fantastic! I can’t get over how fabulous the interplay between PC and TK is. They really complimented each other. Amazing!
Drummer makes this song.
Nice find. I'll have that horn riff as an earworm the rest of the week.
ahhh peter. you rock my world. sigh....
And notice at 3:18... you hear Terry blow his dog-whistle.. to signal the end of the jam-solos!! :-) I notice that whistle in ALOT of the LIVE stuff.. Live in Japan '72 especially!! :)
itsstillfriday yes he was the leader of this band!

This is so awesome! Thank you!
@itsstillfriday Physical whistle, I've seen him turn his head and do it. As conductor of this orchestra, Terry Kath had different signals, depending on if he was playing (whistle) or singing (raising his fist).
ty ty ty..love this..
Always wondered why they didn't release this song. Always wanted to hear this in concert, too.
It's on their sixth album along with Feeling Stronger Everyday & Just You and Me .
Truly Chicago at their best. This is great stuff and thanks for posting.
Knew these guys from beginning, stuff from ranch, great, keep it coming.
Like everyone else don't understand how Peter Cetera gave this up for the style of singing he chose. He could do it all and was amazing at it. Love to see this though.
Great song I've never heard live except for this show, which I saw live on ABC I believe in 1973. Probably the best song on VI
This is so dope.
Cool grove. And studio uncut too. Damn.
Amazing vocals, horns & drums!!
one could compile an amazing greatest songs collection from just VI and VII
those guys were playing before that to be perfect...Terry was an amazing guitar player as a solo guitar player and singing and keeping the beat as the same time..which is difficult.his playing showed us those chord substitutions and beat ..you can hear in every record of Chigago the rhythm of the guitar is on top in every song ..cause his guitar rhythm is good and innovative ..he sounded better than every session guitar player..some people said the bought Chicago records because the guitar player..terry one of the best studio recording rhythm cut was in "Call me " and the guitar alwasy on top..and as a solo guitar player he was one of the best of the world
This is one of my favorite non-hit Chicago songs.
I remembered seeing Chicago at Illinois State University
Pankow's tribute/rebuttal to Tower of Power...complete with Parazaider's bari sax, and Cetera's nod to Rocco at 2:30.
Chicago VI is where you'll find the song Dan (but dosen't cook quite as much as this version} Glad you're all enjoying the songs!
Cheers
Thanks for posting. I love it.
,
an amazing song!
great song..gee I miss terry
Dammmmmmmmn it boys!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gracias infinitas por esta joya!!!!!!!!
That WAS nice
This is Incredible stuff to see!! Thanks!
