If you get ahold of recent rerelease of Live At Carnegie Hall with every song played all week long you will hear lots of guitar solos played differently on same songs night after night. A Chicago concert from 1970 to 1975 was a guessing game. Every audience member knew every song but in the middle of one, Terry on guitar or even the horns would go off on a long jam. It was magic.

You may be able to find it, I looked for a minute so I could attach it for you but didn't see it, where Jim Pankow (trombone) was on some New Year's Bash TV show ... not long after this concert. I don't really remember if the whole band was there or not. It may have been local Chicago actually, but I just don't remember. I have, however, seen it online. Anyway, to the point: the MC, or interviewer, or whatever, asked Pankow about their "hot young guitar player". Pancow answered by saying something along the lines of, Terry put on a magic show up in Tanglewood a few months ago and we have been getting booking calls ever since.....

I'm primarily a metal fan but have started to realize how criminally underrated of a guitarist Terry Kath is. Downright insane level of talent.

I love how Terry Kath just waits patiently and starts slowly amping up
the rhythm until everyone jumps on board from the keyboards
    to the drums and horns
he was the engine of Chicago

That’s what cha do in a BAND, they don’t like empty space... Danny was having trouble getting set up to his liking ... so Terry started a rhythm and knew Seraphine would eventually be ready and join in.. good stuff

A piece of advice for today's guitar players. Nothing you do in your bedroom compares to what happens when you play with others. Just watch the players and their mutual effect. You can see how the music gets to them. They couldn't care less about the audience, the cameras or the BS. that passes for performances today. !
