  • The video shows the timelapse of world air pollution (share of all deaths attributed to air pollution) from 1990 to 2020. Air pollution is the contamination of air due to the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to the climate or to materials.

Of course, the developed countries have the less pollution, because they put the most polluted factories to developing countries, including China and Vietnam. Please remember many electronic devices import to developed countries are made from China.

That's not the only reason. Developed countries have stricter regulations for industrial smoke filtration. Particles that cause people to die from respitory illness in China and India are legally required to be filtered in most of the West.

hmz im skeptical about data demonstrated in the video. while mortality due household air pollution might decreased drastically, generally more people live in cities and more people continiously breath polluted air and it has long term health effects. according to some data, life expectancy loss from air pollution is greater than loss from smoking or alcohol/drug use. some data suggest that 1 out of 5 deaths are directly or indirectly caused by air pollution. the two leading causes of death besides natural is cardiovascular diseases and cancers. In both cases air pollution can cause or worsen condition.

There’s a reason why developing countries choose coal over gas. Energy independence.
Most oil flows from Middle East. And US and the west has a chokehold since Saudi + US became best friends. And lucky for the west because if China/india switched to gas, the prices would have shot up ten fold and they would be economically vulnerable to countries with western influence. No sovereign nations want to be part of that.
Furthermore the hesitancy to share nuclear technologies and its disparagement slowed down nuclear adoption.
Off course western nations like to point fingers at developing world. China is already at a transition point. India is going to increase coal production for another 1-2 decades.
