Jason was a real pioneer, that was constantly trying to push the boundaries of mountain hunting, obsessing over data and the pursuit for excellence to satisfy others. Such a great loss to our industry.

RIP to Jason ..I grew up and played football with Jason. The thrill and love of life ( hunting) you see here when he speaks was one of Jay's great personality traits..he put his heart and soul into the things he loved...head trauma..CTE ..mental illness affects all and my heart goes out to all who knew and love Jason. R.I.P. and God Bless you all.

When Jason suggests not getting into a pack sooner than 90 days ahead of a hunt, I think he is referring to the super heavy packs such as the 70lb pack he mentions at 31:00 . I’m 67 and have been hiking every day with a Kuiu 1850 with either 25 or 30 pounds of sand (bag) in it. I have two packs, and choose one or the other based on the gas I’ll need in the tank for the rest of my workout day. Saying that, I’ve not experienced any negative consequences from the regular load. Since I’m where i need to be weight wise, I often look at friends who are 20-40 lbs overweight and think, “wow, can’t take that off by unbuckling. He’s wearing that pack all day long”. If you hike every day with 30 nor 40 lbs (in the boots you intend to hunt in), there will be no shock to the system when the hunt starts.
