    Haven’t always carried a bugle?? Living and hunting in Wyoming, a bugle is one of my absolute necessities. Cow calls are great and all that, but tell you what, wake up about 4 am, Drive or walk around, and bugle every couple of miles. Mark on your map where you heard those bugles, and you’ll start the day with a lot better luck.

    Getting ready for 2019 Colorado September elk archery. Doing a gear checklist. Super pumped! Thank you for the list. Your med bag, meals, and arrow weights helped me make some decisions about what I already have to begin checking my prep list. Plus I like your wind pants. This is my first western hunt and I bought some Sitka gear with a layering system but I already had gortex rain gear with wind block so I like not having to sweat hiking too and I’ll wear my pants glassing hopefully too. Still looking at sleeping systems. I have a 0degree sleeping bag but need to decide on a pillow and mattres system or foam roll for insulation. Lots of options out there. Thank you for the great video! Love you guys at GoHunt and you videos from optics to gear and cinematography. Keeps me motivated and prepping physically and mentally for the harvest. One last thing. I’m looking at boots. Kenetrek seems to keep getting a big push. Should I consider other brands? I see you like la sportiva. Can I go wrong with any of the popular brands? Thanks for the video(s)! P.S. I shoot a Halon 32; love it!

    One more: Do you have experience with the Kuiu gear? I'm getting ready to move back out West to Wyoming from MS after being gone for more years than I should have been, and am looking for gear that will serve me well in the early to mid seasons. I'm really drawn to the Kuiu colors and the way they look like they fit, but I hear both good and not great things about them, and I'm looking for something with a bit longer torso (maybe midway down the thigh).
    Safe travels, man. I love the channel. I can't wait to need some cold weather gear again.

    If you're looking for a great tarp + bivy combo checkout Borah Gear. Not sure of the dimensions of the RAB but the Borah is 7x9 and comes in at $98 and just 9.5oz. And great bivy options in both DCF and Sil. You can come in under 1lb easy without breaking the bank. Love that you're counting ounces, I cringe every time I see Trent from BRO with his Crocs hangin' from his pack ;)

    Final verdict on the OR down hoody now that you've had time to use it?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Před 5 lety +1

      I wore it a bit before I left and I didn't feel like the fill rate/weight was going to end up being warm enough for that trip. I made a judgment call in the end and went back to my Black Diamond Cold Forge Hoody, which is on the heavy end (21oz) for a packable insulation piece but I love that jacket. I love the fit, it's a little more streamlined and has a longer torso and sleeves and it's warm. Always on the search for the perfect down, I think the Stone Glacier Grumman is very intriguing at 5.3 oz of 850+ Fill and a total weight of 11.8oz. Spec wise it's pretty much perfect for what I would consider a good down insulation piece.

    Why do you run 2 gps devices? What does your other device do that your In-reach cannot do?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Před 5 lety

      I'm still running the SE model which does not have the GPS feature, just satellite communication. If I upgraded to the Explorer I could likely get away with packing just it because it does function as a GPS and a messenger. I don't think it's ever a bad idea to have a back up though especially when hunting new country. Phone with OnX and a GPS is a nice combo too.

    Planning to start hunting with camp on my back like I've seen you all do, so going to be purchasing a lot of gear. Roughly how much is that setup minus bow, boots and optics?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Před 5 lety +1

      There are a lot of good products out there plus everybody's setup is different so the end price can vary! But here is a rough estimate of the main things you will need to start backcountry hunting. This does not included the miscellaneous gear (food, first aid, toothbrush, tools, etc.) :
      Pack-$450
      Cook System- $150
      Sleep system /w tent- $700
      Water filtration- $200
      GPS/Mapping- $400
      Total rough estimate price= $1,900
