    I've been a Leupold optics fan for more than 40 years, but you might want to check out their policy on electronics before buying their range finder. I found out the hard way after spending a bunch of money on one that only lasted a couple years only to be told they don't warranty electronics.

    • @trailkreitzer9163
      @trailkreitzer9163 Před 3 lety +1

      Draw length is 30" and I cut my arrows carbon to carbon at 29" and as I stated use the factory Gold Tip pierce inserts and collars. I have not had any failures. I have had to pull a few inserts and/or try a few different combos of the inserts and collars to get a good straight combination but never failure. Overall, they have been really solid for me. Typically out of a dozen I will get 8-9 really straight very consistent weighing arrows.

    Just picked up a SG M7 jacket. How critical is having rain proof pants too? I run some pants with a dwr finish.

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Před 3 lety

      For me, I prefer to have a rain pant and jacket or perhaps something like the Hilleberg Bivanorak. A couple different situations, spot and stalk mule deer, I am mostly riding out mid after noon rain storms and I can get away with something like the Bivanorak that will keep me entirely dry until those swells pass. Archery elk hunting I am often on the move and it's not uncommon to remain in the hunt even during a downpour if the bulls are still talking, for that situation..I need a pant and jacket. I prefer not to go to bed and then have to get up with wet clothing, so for me, I like having a pant and jacket or something like the bivanorak that covers my whole body while riding out a storm.

    Trial what’s the weight of your tripod and head setup? I’m trying to decide on a total weight that I’m willing to pack in. This is my first year adding a spotter and it adds up quick. Im a backpack hunter in Idaho and usually pack in 4 or so miles to set up spike camp. So I’m trying to avoid any unnecessary weight if possible.

    What made you decide to switch from bee stinger to Aaron stabilizers?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Před 3 lety +1

      Primarily I just like trying new equipment and I liked the fit/finish of the AAE Mountain Series stabilizers. The end caps are quality, the added sound dampener pieces are a nice bonus and I like that they are micro diameter like the Microhex which should buck the wind well. The AAE are also available in a 8, 10, 12, and 15 inch lengths with three 1 oz weights. I may end up going back to Beestinger stabs, they are a great set of stabilizers but the primary reason for the AAE's is just to see if they are are quality as they feel.

Z-packs also offer dymeena pockets that are light and work well. You can find those here in our Gear Shop: shop.gohunt.com/

      It will somewhat depend on their age and the hunt, but I did a backpack hunt with my 15-year-old son last year and he carried all of his own gear except for items that we only needed one of. He carried his own food, insulation layers, sleeping bag, pad, and water. On a normal day hunt my kids will carry their own food, water, and extra clothes and some loose gear. Thanks for watching!

  • @stewartbrown782
    @stewartbrown782 Před 3 lety

    A+ as always Trail, so I’ll nitpick a bit here. Do you think it a little shortsighted to showcase $6-8k worth of gear for a backcountry elk hunt and then attribute a recent failed harvest to a $250-700 rangefinder and shrug it off? I realize it’s all about prioritizing hard earned money for us regular guys with families, just not sure I’d assume risk on a critical component to my “weapon system.” Kinda made me cringe, but I’m horrible at range estimation - especially on incline. Certainly not a hater, just a concerned follower. Stay frosty boys…

    • @trailkreitzer9163
      @trailkreitzer9163 Před 3 lety +4

      Haha..love it! Ya that was all me and my mistake wholly, just a mental flop on my part. I sat on that bull all day, closed the distance to within 65 yrds and he worked into a window steep downhill from me. I've used that Leica Rangemaster for several years without issue, but for whatever reason that day I took the range, dialed 5 yards to my slider and executed the shot...and missed. You're correct when I have 6-8K in gear, a $400 rangefinder is a not a big deal given the fact that we put so much money and effort into these hunts....but, that shot...it hurt. It left a lasting impression and unequivocally it's a mistake I know I will not make again which is why I can justify not buying a new one. I'd like a new one, but I feel confident going forward that I will not make the mistake again. That shot hurt bad and those are the lessons that last the longest!
