Idaho archery elk for this old man this year. I also have and Idaho muley rifle tag so I’ll be in Idaho for about a month and a half. One thing about an archery elk hunt is I have the opportunity to scout for muleys also as my tags are the same area. My gear list is much the same except for the Terralite WM bag and a Hilleberg Akto tent and a Tarp-10. A good option for lightweight stakes are gardening composite 8” stakes.

Great video Trail. Would love to Elk hunt with ya in Utah sometime. I still need more time on a bow, but recently switching from Rifle to bow as things have worked out in life. Grew up in the La Sal unit near Moab and have been successful for nearly 21 years.

I have always been a fan of the MSR pumps and the Katadyn Pumps. There have been times were the only water we had was a mud puddle we found. We dug it down with a shovel and let the water settle and pumped from it for a few days with no problem. The MSR filter can be cleaned but the Katadyn pumps better IMO.

Trail, do you time / clock your broadheads to your vanes? If so, how do you stop the rotation of the broadhead in the correct timed position?
Thanks for the gear list trail! Very thorough, I’m stoked a large majority of this gear is in the gear shop! Love the string color on the bow as well, if we ever did name our bows I’d call it that the green goblin! 🤙🏽 haha glad you got some tags! I’m headed to AZ for Sept bull elk!
I’ve been calling that bow “the hulk” but I do like the green goblin! If you are looking for new strings those are made by A3 archery and are bloodline fiber. There’s no wax on those, so almost no maintenance. I’ve had them on for a few months and after a ton of shooting I’ve had no fuzz, no creep, and zero serving separation. Good luck in AZ, I hope you catch up to a good one!

Trail, what are you using to line the riser and arrow shelf?
How’s that hip quiver do in the thick timber and under brush? I hate shooting with my quiver on. Just worried it’d be getting snagged up all the time and loose arrows.

Great video as usual! Can you show or describe how you nested your Soto Windmaster in the Seek Outside bail handle mug? The mug diameter seems to be a bit small to fit the Soto or it's just a really tight fit. Did you have to modify anything for the stove to fit with the canister at the bottom? The video cut to the next frame right when you were trying to pull out the stove. Thanks!
Great question, here's what Trail had to say...
The Seek Outside Bail handle mug will fit a small fuel canister (3.9oz) in the bottom and the SOTO then put in on top (sideways). It's a very tight fit, you'll have to force it in a bit. I then put the support piece facing down over the main stove piece. Lid goes on top of that. The lid won't snug and stay on top, but it fits nice with the the cover/case it comes with with the draw string around the top, or I've often just put a couple rubber bands over it as it seems a rubber band comes in handy at times when I'm backpacking.

Awesome video! You mention below strings are green…are the strings white with green serving? Looks incredible!
Strings are solid flo green with purple serving. That set was made by A3 archery - bloodline fiber. I have a few thousands arrows through those and I’ve been very impressed with them..no creep, no peep twist, no serving separation. Can’t recommend them enough.

@@tannerk45 took a look back through my order form and in the bloodline fiber A3 offers a color called Viper Green, which is what this is. I remember trying to order flo green and at the time they didn't have it. So, this color combo is Viper Green with Flo purple serving.

I have Mystery Ranch Beartooth pack, and i've been a little concerned with some of my equipment, kill kit with the Mystery Ranch game bags seems a bit larger than what I would like. I noticed also that he didnt use a footprint mat, or something as a rain cover for the tent.
Right, I don’t use a footprint. I put my sleeping pad and bag inside the bivy sack and have no need for a footprint. If it looks like I am going to get rain or snow I pitch the Seek Outside Eolus over the bivy for protection.
Hey Trail, great in depth review of your gear! Thanks for sharing. How do those new Scarpas compare to the Hanwag Makra Trek/Combi? Thanks!
I'd suggest they are comparable, few minor differences...the Scarpa's are all suede vs a synthetic/suede combo on the Hanwags. I think the Scapra's will wear a bit longer because of that. The tread on the Scapra's are a bit deeper than the Combi, comparable to the Trek. The Scarpa is a smidgen more flexible in the sole than the Combi, similar to the trek. Weight/feel on the foot is very similar. The Scarpa feels a little longer and a hair narrower than the Hanwags, but just ever so slightly. Overall, I'd suggest those three are in the same vein..the Combi just having a stiffer sole.

Agreed, my med kit need a revisit for sure.
@@trailkreitzer9163 I would highly recommend getting an Israeli Bandage. They are pretty packable and are good in case you have someone severely injured.
@@ColoradoStreaming good tip, I'll check that out. Admittedly I have skated by for many years without a few necessities I need to add to the med kit. The older I get, the more I am realizing that things can happen quickly and it only takes a slip of a blade or a misstep. Thanks again, great tip!
New to this, what’s F.O.C’s?
FOC means front of center on an arrow. It’s a measurement of how much weight is in the front and center of the arrow. This will affect penetration and flight.
