    Spartan precision makes a qd tripod head system called the Davros. They have inserts for your rifle as well as adapters for your spotting scope, binos, and range finder.

    I recommend a small 800ml kettle-MSR or expedition research ect ect you can melt snow over a fire helps save on fuel that you would waste melting snow on stove, and you can store other stuff in kettle when not using to take up space like first aid kit of fire starting kit ect.

    Kuiu Galeforce for the win when it's cold. Good stuff. Thanks

    Those tripod clamps for your rifle aren't just for new shooters and kids. They greatly increase anyone's ability to find a stable shooting position in a variety of scenarios. There is a reason our military snipers have them and use them often.

    The xlite pads have been redesigned in recent years to be much more quiet depending on when you bought might be a different version than your friend's.......they also make an insulated version now with more r-value for not much weight

    I don’t addaboy many bag dump videos but he is nonscripted, non-promo motivated. Its obvious he has his gear, tried and true. I would not agree with all his gear but how many of us agree on everything. He missed a couple of things that are saving graces but overall after 42 years of killing elk I think he is solid.

    Is there a temperature range you planned on for this hunt? Just trying to gauge things, especially with the Eolus choice.

      Yeah, watching the weather it was day time highs in the 50s and night time lows in the high 20s. It was cool at night, but with good bags and no snow or wet conditions we were fine. If we would have expected some snow or temps in the teens I'd have gone with a tipi and stove.

      Cool, thanks for the reply, I’m looking at snow and mid teens this week and questioning my current setup as well.

    hey man, what temps have you taken your sleep pad down to? have you tried an Extherm ?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Před 2 lety

      I have used my NeoAir Xlite Sleeping Pad paired with a Western Mountaineering Versalite Down Sleeping Bag to around 15°, perhaps a smidge lower. Personally, if I were buying one pad to do it all, I'd suggest the Xtherm. It will cover you for all 4 seasons. You won't over heat using in in the summer months, but it will be a better option from mid Oct to Nov/Dec. You can find it here in our Gear Shop: shop.gohunt.com/products/therm-a-rest-neoair-xtherm-sleeping-pad
      Thanks for watching and best of luck this season!

    If you bone out the elk, how do you keep evidence of sex intact? I think that’s the biggest issue I’ve found with boning out

  • @camojoe83

    I dont understand why your knife isn't as sharp as those vile throw away things you think are too dangerous for your kid. I mean, heprobably already drives an explosion powered pile of metal at highway speeds. A freshly sharpened knife tuned for skinning should be just as sharp as those utility knife blades, I'd think.
    Unless you use one of those vile, throwaway knife sharpener things on it. I guess that would explain it.
