45* won the Electoral College by only a sliver of 78,000 votes (77,744) out of 136 million ballots cast. Putin and repubs interfered most in three crucial states. According to the final tallies, 45* won Pennsylvania by 0.7 percentage points (44,292 votes), Wisconsin by 0.7 points (22,748 votes), Michigan by 0.2 points (10,704 votes).
Only about 22% of the population voted for 45* (and many not FOR him, but against "the system"). About the same voted for HRC. Then you had some 3rd party votes.
In total, 47% of the eligible voters did not vote in 2016. There are over 100 million eligible non-voters, the largest section of voters, whom, if they just showed up, would be a massive blue wave since most are dem or lean dem (many are young for one thing). So if the people really voted en masse, HRC would of won in even more of a landslide and not even repub directed massive voter suppression, radical gerrymandering, and Russian propaganda targeting (which was crucial in 3 states named above that barely went to 45* to get him the EC) would of saved 45*. Look at the polls: the vast majority of America rejects 45* even with a good economy. That's highly significant (usually in a good economy even the so-so presidents most citizens are lukewarm about at best have a much higher approval rating).
Moreover, poll after poll, year after year, decade after decade, US citizens have rejected the conservative agenda (even many conservatives reject crucial parts of it!). But mass voter suppression, radical gerrymandering, and low voter turnout and apathy keeps getting GOP candidates "elected" from low to high office. The demographics have been against the GOP since the 60's: it's time for the people to show up and vote and for legislation to be passed that protects and expands voter rights (like nationwide automatic voter registration and making election day a holiday) and stops gerrymandering; that would end the GOP control and elections would actually reflect the popular will...as they do in healthy democracies...like ours used to be before the repubs turned it into a de facto one party (repub party) autocratic white supremacist oligarchic state.

Omitting that article would make it "I am (of) berlin", but with "ein" it is "I am a berliner". Which to us sounds perfectly fine (and almost all germans surely understood this as well, of course) but to them would make it a statement of him being the object "a berliner" rather than in the context we would perceive it.

    • @ThomasNimmesgern
      @ThomasNimmesgern Před 5 lety +9

@@danelmore6553 I disagree as far as Kennedy's speech is concerned.
On the one hand, you are right that there is a difference between German and English in terms of how to describe your origin.
In English, you say that with an article: "I'm a German" (I am from Germany, I come from Germany, I have the German citizenship) - note the article "a".
In German, you say "Ich bin Deutscher" - without any article.
That's the general rule. That's why you would usually say "Ich bin Berliner" (I am from Berlin, I live in Berlin etc.) wirhout an article.
On the other hand, I see an exception to that rule in Kennedy's speech.
If you say "Ich bin ein Berliner", you add the article "ein" (a or an) which is, indeed, uncommon.
This way, you indicate that you are one of many, so you see yourself as a part of a larger group of certain people. You may also indicate that you want to be a part of that group and that you are even proud to be one of them.
So, in this context, it's like saying "Berlin, I am one of you, I really want to be one of you, and I am definitely proud to be one of you".
So I see no faux pas in Kennedy's speech.
I am sure no-one in the crowd thought "oh, the US president is a doughnut - how delicious!!". ;-) The probably did understand it the way I have described above.

You ever watch sports and when a team has a big ass lead the coach will put the bench warmers in for the last couple of minutes. Ok now imagine if after the game the bench warmers went around bragging about how it was them that won the game. Giving no credit to the starters that created the huge lead. See, trump is the bench warmer here. He inherited a good economy just like he inherited millions from his daddy. All he has to do is not mess it up. Seems like he's trying to mess it up with his dumb ass trade war and giving over $12 billion in social safety nets to farmers. I thought the right hated socialism? Yet you have no problem with farmers taking part in a social program.

So whos gonna go up against trump, he's been 100 percent vetted by 2 yrs of investigation...theres nothing left to dig up.
Biden...his son just admitted to taking huge bribes from...cough...ANOTHER COUNTRY while his dad was vice president.
And he's just the front runner....
Camilia? Who's parents denounced her. Who has had slave ownership in her recent family tree? A prick prosecutor with a history of hurting anyone and everyone she can...and then there's the book from the guy who banged her for the start she got. Who lied about being the first segregaded group at berkley. Jeesh he will eat her up.
pocohontos...when he is feasting on her she will have that nevrvous old person tweak and shake in her voice. She will have nothing left but to go way out in left field on him with emotions, it'll play right into his hands.
Who else...BUTTisomething, the gay guy? There will be graphic stuff of the president and his husband having homosexual sex in the white house. Trump will surely make him cry.
      Not even a little challange.
There's nothing. Tulsi has been done in by her own party as well as berney, they are both out before it even started.
