  • Honda Element Rear Differential Fluid Replacement (2003-2011). In this video I show how to replace the rear differential fluid (Dual Pump Fluid II) on a Honda Element. Replacing the rear differential fluid on a Honda Element is a great DIY project. The exact vehicle in this video is a 2003 Honda Element EX with a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. 2003-2011 Elements should be similar (don't forget to reset Maintenance Minder Sub Item 6 on 2007-2011 Elements). Enjoy!

BigD5, I appreciate ur video very much. So helpful how u go step by step & what tools & equipment to use to do the job right!
U hv saved me a lot of $$ & knowing I did all the correct steps to maintain my vehicle.
Lots of mechanics cut corners and make a big mess, leaving me to have to clean up after their mess. Thx u. 😊

Thanks for sharing. Those syringes come in mighty handy. I’ve had one for years going Back to my aircraft days. It wasn’t as fancy but it got the job done. Hope all is well Artie 🇺🇸👍

Hi Big Dog, you know that video you did about replacing the thermostat on a Honda that had a Engine Temperature Sensor variation when the driver was on a highway really helped me out. Thanks to you I had the courage to replace mine yesterday and it solved the problem of the Engine temperature falling to a quarter on the highway. The thermostat was stuck open like you say. The mechanics couldn’t figure it out. But I fixed it thks to you. Thanks 🙏

Just did mine today, nearly 180k miles on mine. I believe it’s not 4wd but man does my car drive smooth now. Took 30 minutes and it was my first time. Didn’t Jack the car up but had a tight squeeze. I’m a thin built guy with long limbs so I would suggest larger people Jack it up. Definelty use a breaker bar, thought I broke my ratchet. Overall your video was super helpful. I imagine the syringe is faster however using a pump like I did didn’t require getting up and back under the car.

Driving onto a couple of boards, 2 by 6, making them staggered, will raise it up enough to slide under. Be sure to block all 4 tires.

If that bothers you, dump the remains of the 1st bottle into the 2nd bottle after you've topped off the diff and save it for the next change.

Depends on how flexible and skinny you are. I have an RV which has way more clearance than the Element, but even then it’s more convenient to have more space. When there’s “extra” space, you’re less likely to have to contort into a strange position.
