- Welcome to my channel Raspberry Reads! My name is Katherine and this is my first every booktube video - eek! In this video, I answer ten questions in the #booktubenewbie tag so that you can learn a little bit about me, and what I like to read.

Welcome to the Book Tube Community! I'm so happy you chose to start a channel and let us get to know you through this tag! I enjoy reading historical fiction about women's lives and roles as well. This year, I read "The Women" by Kristen Hannah which i really enjoyed - love stories about nurse's who served in Vietnam! Also, I started a series called the "Sky" Series - I read the first book of three called, "Dark Enough to See the Stars in a Jamestown Sky" by Connie Lapallo. It is about the first colonists to arrive in North America - from the female perspective. Anyway, welcome! I look forward to watching more of your videos in the future!

I see Still Life by Sarah Winman on your shelf, so I am already invested. That's my favorite book of all time!
Also, if you like herbal women with a bit of witchcraft and strong female characters, I'd highly (x3) recommend the Witches series and the Tiffany Aching series in Terry Pratchett's Discworld (if you haven't read them already). Given what you've said about your doctorate, I think these books would interest you. The first in each series is Equal Rites and The Wee Free Men, respectively.
I really enjoyed those books by Terry Pratchett! And I agree, Still Life is also one of my favourite books! ☺️
I don’t know if it’s late to say welcome! I just found your channel and I love British fiction and witchy women, literary and historical fiction, so I look forward to hearing about those. You reminded me I used to love the Sweet Valley High series, so nostalgic. I love Jen and Simon! And I love the term catnip! I mentioned the concept of that in my booktube newbie tag video too, I love hearing other people’s bookish catnip. I love mother/daughter relationships and themes related to art, memory, connection, and communication. Hope that fits the idea of bookish catnip. Hope you’re having a great time so far!

Welcome to BookTube! It sounds like you bring an interesting background, and we share a love of poetic writing. I read across all genres, including fantasy, literary, horror, romance, thrillers, classics, and sci-fi. A book I’d recommend is I Who Have Never Known Men. It kind of defies genre classification, but I’d say it is a smart and haunting take on a more literary leaning dystopian novel. I’ll be looking forward to more of your videos.

I love how humble you are when you are clearly brilliant! 🤩I would enjoy some dystopian recommendations. I am from the U.S. and one of my favorite childhood memories was a trip to Calgary, and I know this is pretty “typical” but I am obsessed with L.M. Montgomery! Also, yes, Dear America is a thing in U.S. and Sweet Valley(taking me back😂) was a big thing for me too. I am big into children’s literature so will check out that first channel! 😊

I read more fiction than nonfiction and a variety of genres. My favorites are mystery, horror, thriller along with historical fiction, classics, and fantasy. I also love reading children’s literature, mainly middle-grade but occasionally ya and a picture book. 📚 I wish you all the best with your booktube channel. 😊

I used to have a book blog too, but found that I almost got no feedback on it from commenters at all. Because I read pretty off-the-wall, academic nonfiction mostly, I still get less than most people - but a lot more than I used to with a blog. We're so glad to have you here!

Speaking of herbal women, I just listened to The Burnings by Naomi Kelsey, have you read that? Would love to hear you thoughts on that with your academic perspective! Also, Kate Foster’s The King’s Witches is coming out in June and seems to have a similar premise, or at least some commonalities like the royal couple and the North Berwick (?) burnings/events.
I haven't read those, but I'll have to check them out. My academic research was mainly 18thC English noblewomen, so I don't know as much about witch burnings, but I still find it interesting to read about!

I personally read a nice mix of fiction and nonfiction. I’ve been getting a bit more into nature related books. I just finished Fresh Banana Leaves by Jessica Hernandez PHD and I have Black Earth Wisdom on my TbR atm.
