Best Fertilizer Management Practices to Prevent Flower Shedding in Sesame
1. Balanced Fertilization
Nitrogen (N): Essential for vegetative growth. Apply nitrogen in split doses to avoid excessive vegetative growth that can lead to flower shedding. Typical recommendation is 40-60 kg/ha, split into two or three applications:
1/3 at planting
1/3 at first thinning (3-4 weeks after planting)
1/3 at early flowering
Phosphorus (P): Important for root development and flowering. Apply phosphorus at planting. Typical recommendation is 20-40 kg/ha of P₂O₅.
Potassium (K): Enhances drought resistance and flower retention. Apply potassium at planting. Typical recommendation is 20-40 kg/ha of K₂O.
