I'll stay with an old version as long as possible.
Me too, I find the new new version harder to read and if you make an overhaul why not bring in dome good UX designers.
Absolutely. Tried the beta version. Did not like the lack of info compared to the original.
Don't remove features Garmin
@@PhilipDuePedersenit's rather a simplification
At this point it seems Garmin should likely maintain the two streams, the regular UX and the beta UX. I love the beta UI; it's clean, non-clattered where's the 'older' UI can be overwhelming! It certainly took me several months to reckon what was going on in Garmin Connect. I learnt that UI the hard way, but following descriptions from CTS, & DC Rainmaker, I found the Beta UX loveable!
Before having a Garmin I used to have a Huawei watch. And I know that Garmin has better watches, but something I always loved about Huawei was its app. You can easily see your runs divided by months. You could see them as a list. And it was so useful. Also they send you a month recap with awesome info like total distance, fastest 5k, fastest 10k, longest run, etc.
I was hoping Garmin implemented that with this beta version. But it seems that they don’t even have it in consideration.
Get a partner account with say Runtastic, you'd have that feature. I started using running Runtastic before joining the Garmin ecosystem. As such I'm not bothered by a certain 'lack of features' on Garmin Connect. For you and many others that might be a problem, even a deal breaker, but remember, nothing ever made by humans will ever be perfect - so you'll need to choose what works best for your requirements.
In Connect you can view a 7 day, a month (4 weeks) and a year's overview, you wouldn't get Avgs of running time/effort, you'll just get distance covered across those timescales.
Appreciate the video. I turned the beta off after a couple of minutes, was too frustrating to use. I don't like the sideways scrolling. If I could have unlimited widgets 'In Focus' and arrange them vertically, I'd be happy... oh wait, that is just the old version of the app. The arbitrary limits on the 'in focus' and 'at a glance' on the home screen irks me.
Agreed on the sideways scrolling. Horrible!!
You can have 8 tiles in the at a glance without needing to use the "see all" button. You should be able to add essentially every metric you're wanting there and then you have no horizontal scrolling and no having to tap see all.
Hated it. Immediately went back to the old version.
Agreed. Hate horizontal scrolling. I love seeing a nice long list showing my day's activities
I've had my Garmin and using the app for abit over a month now. My opinion might not hold up to users that have been using it longer, but I prefer the old version. Just liked having one page where I can scroll vertically.
Thanks I may turn it back on to see these changes. Helpful video!
I really wanted to like the new version, but I couldn't switch back fast enough after leaving feedback for Garmin. As in the current version, what can be more clear and convenient than vertical scrolling? The combo of vertical and horizontal navigation in the beta seems like a mish-mash of swiping. Omission of yesterday and 7 days with full data was the last straw. I'll hold on tightly to the current version until the very last moment possible.
Great update! I am like the new version, but still getting used to it. I missed the last 7 days so happy it’s back, definitely, doesn’t include mileage or duration which are the 2 metrics I used. Especially when training as I want to know I am maintaining my mileage. Great video update, thanks for sharing!
Great update! I was frustrated by this originally as well and I'm happy they added it back. I can however see yesterday's run at the bottom. I'm not sure it that was updated recently, but i like that it's back.
I was JUST invited to the beta about 3 days ago, so I didn’t know anything had changed. 🤣 So far, I like the new layout. I answered the prompts and I was pleased with the dashboard it created for me.
Thanks for the video. Now I know to stay with the current version. I switched to the beta version and immediately switched back. I specifically asked Garmin to put the "Yesterday" and "Past 7 Days" back. Additionally, I like that - in the current version - don't have to swipe right to see my data. I liked having all my data on one "landing page". The beta version adds nothing to, but rather detracts from, my user experience.
Well Dave, like some others,I went back to older version,or Garmin connect,a lot of what I was used to was missing on the Beta Version 😮
This feels similar to a SAS company I worked for where project managers pass down dev decisions that are nearly impossible to shift out of ... just keeps grinding along where or not a UX change was even needed. This rather than doing meaningful bug and UX improvements.
This is a more is less situation.
I like the new app. And happy to see they added these widgets back in. Here’s to hoping they add some kind of import for Apple Health / Google Fit so it can read weight etc from that.
I joined beta program last night. Cool👍
Love the new look. Been using it for a while now and its much more customizable for my needs
Goals and progress tracking and encouraging you to achieve your goals. these are the features I want from Garmin Conmect
Great video, as usual! I like the new Beta version, but I find it to be quite slow to pull up data - I always get the running man for at least 3-5 seconds (if not more). Another issue on the Beta and the old is that checking out your badges, and any streaks you’re on (especially for repeat badges) is not so easy. You have to go to profile, all badges, etc. Also, when you’re on a streak, it would be great if there’s a tick box to show that you’ve done the daily effort (e.g. mile run, hydration,30 min, etc) or if you’re still missing it for the day
noooooo Garmin. this is such a step back. last 7 days may be one of my fav features. disappointed but great video, thank you
Thanks Rob, just turned on mine! Neat addition from Garmin! On the issue of the shortened metrics, my guess is, it's down to the 'in focus' feature/settings. Whatever you highlight to be in focus will also translate to Yesterday's and last 7-days' summary
Names Dave! But glad you found this helpful.
@@ChaseTheSummit 🤣🤣
New version looks like “office managers fitness app”, but not for sport-oriented people.. (
And next step - Amoled instinct?))
Thanks! Good info. I was recently selected for the beta program but declined for now. I like the existing Connect version. The new one looks fine as well but if it 'ain't broke don't fix it'! I should add I'm relatively new (December - epix Pro (Gen 2) 47 sapphire) to Garmin so I'm likely in a small cohort that really love Connect as it is.
I tried the beta, and lasted 15 minutes before changing back. It just didn't display as much data as the old version. Also, some of the fields (calories in/out) didn't show nearly as much as before.
on iOS, I see my run in the yesterday section - and yes, I am running the beta. And it actually looks nicer than in the old version. It shows a little mini map of my run and it is separate from the other metrics. I like that better than before
I LIKE the new UI, much more modern and easy to read. I don't feel that I miss anyting big. I also like the synced web UI. One have to be patient with beta test and suck up the changes.
Tried the beta version for a few weeks before ditching it and going back to the old. Really hope they don’t proceed with the Beta version changes - really not user friendly - at least not for me and clumsy with having to scroll screen left/right to get to different data.
Interesting that it is random to get in. I came back to Garmin just this week with an Edge 1040 Solar and setup a new Connect account because I gave my dad my old Edge 830 and he was using the old account. When I finished setting up the new device it asked me if I would like to enroll in the Beta program.
I'm on the beta and I prefer the new layout no question
As it is in Beta, they probably haven’t finished developing all of the features yet. So this is a bit premature to suggest it won’t be comparable to the current version. Do you have any contacts at Garmin who could talk about what is expected to be in the final version?
I don't find the beta much better or worse. It's just different is about it. For the people who have access and don't like it I'd recommend keeping it and providing feedback. They're clearly going the new direction, and if they only get feedback from people who like it you're not going to like the outcome. Although I suppose going to the beta then switching back is feedback to them.
looks like the new 7 day is the continuation of the "yesterday" metrics, where before it was all the average of the last 7 days
Man , me shifting from apple watch to garmin , any update that comes from garmin is far better than apple,. Nothing to complain about
At the "in focus" you can add all activities, all run bike or swim weakly glances. They are ok but at the "all activities" they could have used different colours for different acrivities so that you have a better view. I train for 4 activities and sometimes 3 in a day. I'd like to see which took how much of that day like a pivot table..
Good idea. Hopefully they can polish that a bit better.
Good job
BLUF 👍🏼
After adding a title to my Run and saving connect goes back to the my day screen before having a chance to look at my Charts. Annoying if it is a bug & extra annoying if intentional byGarmin. Great review BTW
Thanks for this thorough update. I am PISSED! Each morning when I wake up I look at the distance ran in the last 7 days, to ensure that I maintain my weekly mileage target. Come on Garmin… you can do better!
This is still beta. I'm sure the full functionality will be back eventually.
Garmin is good compared to other brands as they provide a ton of data. This direction of making that data hidden will kill them over time as there are cheaper options if you dont need the last bit of data. I really hope that they never take this new beta look into use as it makes you scoll all directions instead of having a really intuitive and well designed and organized list of parameters.
Hey I got access to the beta apparently! :)
I always the seven day average, hope they add in all the elements that was already there.
Thanks for the update. Why not simply allow users to customise their start page while simplifying it for new users? I understand the data may be overwhelming to some, but I still like to have it
Well said! I couldn't agree more!
Thank you so much for making this video. I loved having my custom dashboard where my monthly and annual running and cycling goals were displayed . At a glance, I could see my mileage for the year and my progress toward it. Now I have to go to the separate Goals sidebar which is disconnected from the main screen.
Yeah, I'm not convinced. I don't understand the benefit of having a section in which you have to swipe sideways, but then another section is up/down. The beta is showing less info than the old version. I like to see ALL of my data!
I changed the "In focus" section to only display one stat, so that has eliminated the side-to-side scrolling issue. I can then scroll down to see the glances that I have chosen. I still feel that the new update has some information hidden deeper than it used to be.
Old is gold. No need to change it.
I like the new version but it seems to update some things after a while instead of immediately after an activity. Might be how I configured it. I am only on Garmin for a year and a half but as my running improves I appreciate the various metrics more and more.
I'm finding when I go to add weight data it defaults to the last reading and I have to scroll to today to add it. In the old version there was no scrolling as it always defaulted to today 😐
Anyone know how I can connect Garmin Connect to the Apple “Health” App. I switched over from an Apple Watch to Garmin (Fenix 7 pro) and I miss not hitting my Apple rings
I just found out I can toggle the new version (beacuse of this video) and I have to say I really like it so far!
I would love to see the sum of data (e.g. km running) per calendar week ( Monday to Sunday), Unfortunately this is still only available in the Web-version.
Yeah I like that too! COROS does a good job of displaying that in their app.
Using Yesterday and even more the Last 7 Days is way more important if you have an older watch, as well. You don’t have all the new metrics that “incorporate” that data into things like your readiness score. Hope they add back in things like total run distance and Floors. Although I suspect they are also refactoring their code, so they may have just not added everything in yet (and if no one complains, they may not 😅).
To me it still seems as if they are updating a really good and functional app with loads of data and options to customize what you see and don't see to something that is not in any way, shape or form better, but on many accounts a lot worse. Reminds me of the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
P.S. If you like me have an old iPad that doesn't receive the latest updates because of the OS being too old you will still have the current version but with the sleep data (the wheel with the different sleep stages and next to it the time spent in each), which they for some odd reason have decided to remove from the current version, where you have to go into your sleep score to get the same info.
New look is different and take time get used to it.
The only issue I’ve got at the moment, is after adding one event to my calendar, I’m not able to add another event at all.
Does anyone on new app experience the same?
I like it that the amount of information is reduced. Maybe would be nice to change them, but not again the same amount as current
I looked at the new version and stayed using the old version.
If they added all the metrics back in, then I wouldn't mind the new. I don't really see that the old view and data metrics are broken enough to change. Comparing today to yesterday or last week at a glance for all data points should be easy and everyone is used to doing that.
Today I got the invitation to the beta program 🙂and obviously I accepted the invitation and enabled the beta... Beyond the gripes already reported in the video I'd add one of my own: I've activated the 5K heart rate program (this week I'm in week 5 of the 12 week program). Why I'm writubg akk this? Because the 'Training Plans' card doesn't show it and when I press the 'Find a Plan' button it only shows the 'Garmin Coach' ones and not the I selected '5K Heart Rate Based'...
They took years to make the home page looks slightly different. Good job.
I prefer the non Beta version, the Beta version is too cluttered for me. Is there a reason why I need to refresh my page a few times to get the body battery to show up?
How do you get into the betta version? Where should I click ?
It's not available for everyone. Garmin is rolling it out to certain users at random right now. Public beta will likely be available soon.
@Garmin, here’s the answer. Offer 2 modes. Expert (the current mode) and Simple (the new beta). This will cater to everyone.
I have just given feedback to Garmin to say exactly this. There is no way of editing/adding to your ‘yesterday’ and ‘last 7 days’ sections. It’s a no brainer
...and still no view of all of today's activities. As a sprint athlete, I regularly have 10+ activities a day. I don't want to have bury through multiple tiles to see all of my day's activities. At the moment, the old version of GC has a clear lead.
Is Garmin Connect supposed to reduce data for secondary devices when you have multiple devices? Ever since I added a new device and made it the primary my Fenix no longer produces maps for any GPS activities. Is that by design? If so, that is lame of Garmin.
This beta version is so bad, you need to swipe way more to get to stuff, you can't select all the things you had in the old version, and the 7 day distance is something I use all the time to track mileage without having to dig for it.
Garmin seems to like breaking stuff similar to their watch updates :/
I miss so many customization options. I'm not satisfied at all... I loved sorting my shoes on the main page... ;)
I used to like the old browser version better. It allows me to have multiple dashboards and add my Goals to my home page
Looks that the current version is cool and it has all we need , so why it's needed to be changed? No reason... I'll stay with an old version as long as possible.
I felt special being invited to enrol. Now I feel like a random dude.
My old Connect screen doesn’t look like that. Hmmmm. Much less info.
I am training for a race. I tried the beta and it is garbage. There is no graphical representation like the current version.
Как вернуться на старую версию мне не получается😢
They broke what wasn't needing fixed.
That's weird because for me yesterday and 7 days has a lot of informed even in Beta
Strange, for both me and my wife it looks like it does in this video. I'm sure it's just a beta glitch!
@@ChaseTheSummit I see. I'm using an Android if that might be the reason?
I don't know maybe it's only me, but last 7 days info gives me zero use to my training plan correlations. I would rather have last week data or a month table divided into weeks in the app like it's on the website.
I personally want ALL the data that they currently have. If they want to provide customisations as an option so be it but please have all the data present by default. Garmin needs to stop dumbing down this stuff.
Hmm. On my beta I do get yesterday’s run in the new widget.
Strange, for both me and my wife it looks like it does in this video. I'm sure it's just a beta glitch!
I like the old version much better
It's changed today and I hate it can I go back to the old 😢
just bought a 265. I ran a 10km on the treadmill and got the badge for the 10km distance... but not the badges for the 1 & 5 km distance... which is stupid.
As a former gamer, I love badges and achievements, Garmin does good but there is place to improve on the gamification.
I have the beta and mine last 7 day avereages shows how far I've walked, run and rode. Weird
It still looks worse than the old version. What's worse is that it shows less. I don't understand what the purpose of these changes is. There are so many things Garmin could do. From the simplest ones - move the heart rate zone settings beyond the device settings to general user settings, where individual devices should download them if they are able to handle them.
I hate the horizontal scrolling. Vertical + horizontal scrolling is a mess I think. I prefer only vertical scrolling.
Please Garmin don't f*ck it up!
You can disable the focus section if you don't like it.
I am seeing the same data for beta as I did with the old UI for yesterday and for the last 7 days.
Strange, I wonder why I'm not
I'm not.
Still can't believe they didn't add a map like coros and Suunto that shows you your favorite places
That would be nice. Funny enough they do collect that data and use it for Trendline routing for navigation. Heatmaps are available in the course map too!
Want the old version please
Seems like they’ve still made a backward step.
At least on the Android beta, I'm seeing the individual workouts shown under Yesterday.
Interesting. Maybe an IOS Bug in that case.
I’m on iOS and I can see yesterday’s workout in the yesterday section. Probably just a beta bug that hasn’t been ironed out yet.
Same here.
Their updates have been horrible. The three circles has all the information you wanted to see. Now you have to dig within the stats to get information. Tell Garmin these are sports watches, not sleep and health watches.
You sleep stress is looking PRETTY haunted...
Indeed it is 😂
Watched this video and lamented that I wasn’t part of the Beta. Not 3 hours later I had an invitation to join 😮 tell me again that my phone doesn’t listen to me 😂
For me the Garmin App and the menus in the watch are really bad… I would say en français: c’est une usine à gaz! I think in English you call this a white elephant (I cant see why).
The new version is more complex on Home Screen , not simple…..
How do i go back to the old version?
I don’t think you can.
A few weeks back I tried the beta for a few days but I didn't care for it at all so I switched back to the original, which I find much more intuitive and informative.
Old version is better, but the new one is in beta. It may get better
No, it did not look to improve in pretty much anything. I have four Garmin devices and the Trueup still does not work as it should. To make it work I would have to keep changing the device priority in the GarminConnect every time that I change training devices or if I wear a Garmin the whole day putting aside the Garmin Vivo, and when cycling with Edge 1000, I don't even bother to make sense of the training data for that day or week. Therefore, I use Garmin for training, and daily health and fitness metrics, I wear a Fitbit on my other wrist. I normally wear a regular watch and a very slim and light tracker on the other wrist, and better to just rely on Fitbit than deal with Trueup from Garmin.
I personally think they need to refine the UI aesthetic. Rounder edges to the tiles, better colour pallet and perhaps even themes for darker blacks
Not happy. Can I have my old version back, also I didn't opt in, then Garmin Connect crashed...sigh...that was my day.
Last 7 days only shows 1 ride, when this should be 7 rides. I find the uploads on my Fenix 6 Pro from rides using the Garmin Edge 1040 can no longer access the details of that "Last Activity". I've just about reached the limit on using this Beta version. It's total crap; a dogs breakfast. The metrics are just unreliable to place any trust in them. QUESTION - has some mad Professor taken charge?
I am frustated that the BETA is just a improved front-end that sometines resembles what you see at the FENIX screen. There is so much stuff they could improve, specially when dealing with tracks: a) there is no (un)select all when using filters b) why cant we create folders to organize tracks c) bugs when renaming tracks c)ugs wth upload of events&races....
I got an Invite for Beta yesterday, I still don't like it. But it's okay
'll stay with an old version as long as possible.. Did try it , do not like it at all !
Been on beta for month or two now. We obviously all don’t like change and I’m getting used to it… BUT..
… I have submitted feedback multiple times that the mechanism of refresh on the app is now shocking. It’s bouncing things all around the screen as it’s refreshing components and just looks awful. Just do the refresh in the background then refresh the graphs once it’s complete in seamless one shot activity. I don’t want to see all the working of it as a user. Just feels clunky at the moment. I think I still prefer the old model, but I’m sticking with new one hoping they sort it out.
