    Hi
This video shows one of the issues that can happen with the Audi steering lock fault, and remote not working, when the problem is actually in the key barrel.
Update: I can confirm that this solved indeed the "Ignition lock fault", and the non working remote.

Hello I’m having problems with my 2010 a6 with push button start. The key is stuck in ignition, and the switch is completely dead, so no indicators no function.. VCDS auto scan with hazards on shows 00456. No communication access start control module.j518 so I’m curious, is it the ignition switch that recognizes the key in the cabin or is it the steering column lock because most of the videos of come across with the faulty steering lock key is easily removed from ignition. I know this is an older video, but I would really appreciate if you had any recommendations. I have replaced the battery and also was able to remove the fob from the key to remove the ignition switch and manually removed the key. Then I plugged ignition switch back in and still no change. If you insert key, it still won’t release it.

Same problem here. I can buy a used switch with 2 keys. Question. Will it work if I move the transponder from the old keys to the new ones after installing the new key switch? So the immobilizer will work ?

Hello, I hade the same problem on my Audi A6 and it was the switch that was broken. Anyhow, when I replaced the switch and installed it in the vehicle again I got fault code 01176 on delphi 2017.1.
Everytime I try to reset the error code it says "Fault codes could not be erased".
Pretty much tried everything but nothing works. Allthough the centrallocking now do work but absolutley nothing else happens when I put in the key and turn it, dashboard all black.
Do you have any information about the Immo coil? I had an extra that I measured 15 Ohms but I think on the one sitting in the car is about 15,6 Ohm.
Also I never unsoldered the microswitches on E415, I managed to change the top plastic part from a spare E415 circuit board. I only unsoldered the two pins from the "antenna" or "immo coil".

First off I want to thank you for taking time to take this apart and explain the problem. My 05 A6 is starting to have the same issues, where when I remove the key the radio stays on. The way I would get it to turn off is put the key back in and remove it again which turns everything off and locks the steering wheel. You said that the last mini switch broke off, so you took hot wire to make a hole and replaced it with a tiny screw, correct? The second question is what if I was to order a new ignition switch that comes with new keys would I have to program anything and would car recognize that new ignition switch? Thanks again for your help!

That's correct... I fixed it by repairing the microswitch.
I never had to replace one of these.... so not sure.
But, it would work, just not sure if the immo from the engine ecu would need to be adapted to the new barrel...
Surely Google can help you... :-)
      Hope that helps.

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  Před 8 lety +1

      Hi
Thank you for watching my video!
No need to disconnect the battery, although I would advise you to diconnect it if you do not have how to clear the codes that might be stored in the ECUS... Although will be no warnings to the dash....
Unfortunately I can't do a video on how to remove the lock, as I do not have an A6 here.
But, from the top of my head, you need to remove the center trim where the vents are, if you look through the vents fins, you will see some latches that need to be released so the trim comes off.
That trim is really the hard part, the lock itself is just a couple of screws...
Sorry if I can't help you much more...
If I have an A6 soon I will make a video for that...

      It can be many things...
Best thing to do is to have the car scanned and perhaps look at some live data/status... and go from there.
      Is your remote working?
Is all the electrics shutting down correctly when the key is removed?

hi, I have one issue with the steering column. I remarked that it does not lock the steering wheel. Two days ago , when the steering wheel was locked the car did not recognized the key, I did not get power in the IP and therefore no cranking. I called ADAC and the told me : error 288 -steering column locking error. they recommended me to change the column completely. Now the car try to lock the steering wheel when I remove the key but without success. When I insert the key, no noise of unlocking.

It's been a year since you posted this but it sounds like what I'm having. Bad access start authorization module in steering column. To temp fix this:
Get a scanner, put key into ignition and turn it to "on" (even though it's not responding). Then turn on emergency flashers, high beams and press the brakes. Now scan. If fault 00288 shows up, clear it and the car will wake up. The module still needs repair but at least you can move the car.
