    Hi
    In this video I take you through the repair of a Renault Megane steering lock fault.
    I have replaced the faulty steering lock with a second hand one, but because this locks are coded to the UCH (Body control module), you can not just straight swap them.
    First they need to be blanked, virginized, deprogrammed or whatever you might want to call it, In this video is exactly what I will show you how to do.
    A bit of info that I have missed on the video, the tampering safety mechanism can actually de retained, a bit more work, and needs to be done in a certain sequence, if I ever need to do this again, and if I remember, I will make a video show you how...

      Probably not... if the eeprom from the lock that is on the car is corrupted, you will be only moving the problem...
      You have two options, remove the eeprom from yours and blank it... put it back and see... alternatively you can buy a second hand one, blank the eeprom and that should also work...

    Hey there, I have a basically broken Renault Laguna, very similair steerling lock box, I am taking out of the car what I can still use (I bought a newer Laguna) and then im going to get rid of it but the steering lock is currently locked, I took off the ermm pin module between the steering shaft and the steering wheel, the bit that holds this steeringlockbox on it.
    My question is, how can I get it off or how can I just unlock it so I can steer the car, so when they come and get the car, it wont be as much of a hassle?

    • @LMAutoRepairs

      There is no easy way to remove it if the steering is locked... you need to dig into it, cut or drill the bolts... surely you find a way... perhaps, remove the steering column... Will be easier to work on it when outside...

    I had the same problem on a Megane 2 but the real reason it didn't worked was because of poor contact between the steering lock(pin 5) and the fuseboard in the engine compartment on the +12v after ignition. Or poor contact between the engine compartment fuse box and cabin computer same link +12v after ignition. I cleaned them and the 2 related fuses terminals and car works ok for now. Didn't have anything to do with it's 24c04 memory. I don't understand if the guy had problem with the 24c04 memory geting its data altered , why didn't he changed it with a new one? Before starting to blame the steering lock do a can clip diagnostic. Even if it's made by Valeo. it will tell you exactly it's problems. These cars at their age start to develop issues with their connector terminals. Either they corode, oxyde or get burn because of the high contact resistance.

      The engraved digits are just the identification of the chip... you don't need to insert them anywhere, is just that you know which chip you are working with... so you select the correct chip when to read it...

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  Před 5 lety

      Because the idea of this video was to demonstrate how to reutilise the lock...
      If the issue with the original lock was mechanical, yes, swapping the eprom or the whole pcb would work...
      But this locks can sometimes corrupt the eprom data, which in that case this is the only solution...

      Most os the problems with this system is the 'locking mechanism/module'...

      Depending on how much you wand to be able to do on cars, and how much you want to spend, there is several options out there...

      If you open the module, you can relatively easily identify the different components...
      What I said is, the reset of the eeprom most likely is not done the same way as the one on this video...
      You can always try, but I have doubts that it will work...
      What is the issue you are having any way?

      OK... but that doesn't necessarily means you have the same issue...
      The electronic steering locks, have little motors and microswitches that can fail...
      So, though you might have the same symptoms, doesn't mean you have the same problem...
      You need to start by scanning the car, look at live data to see if anything points into any direction...

      LM Auto Repairs I found in the description of bdm 100 that it reads the software for the following
      29BL802 SSOP eprom file (or ROM memory with maps if eprom physically not present);
      MOTOROLA MPC5xx Processor file;
      Serial Eprom content.
      So can it be used or not?

      You have not researched enough...
      29bl802 is a flash memory...
      Mpc555 or similar is a MPC...
      The memory I am reading from this steering lock is completely different...
      Research more and you will see that bdm100 will not be much of a help in this case..

      Hi
      It might be a video on how to take it out, I never captured it due to how simple it is.
      You have one bolt and one plug... that's it.
      This part is the steering lock.
      Search for "renault megane steering lock " and you will find it.
      EBay is a good place...

      If you buy it brand new, it is plug and play.
      On eBay, for example, you will see that there is sellers selling them already reset and ready to fit.

      They don't need to... each car is different... even on different megane the data would be different... That's why they are not interchangeable... each lock contains the data that locks the steering lock to that car....

      I've done the fuses cleaned no water damage + ecu good new 6 months ago +battery good + all connections good live + earth cleaned put back.
      going to have a look at the key card module not sure if it's anything to do with that .
      so with the steering look worn now do I unplug and put back.

    Hi, before thanks a lot about recording this video.!!
    I want to ask you about if is posible to buy a new one unit of 24c04 eprom (maybe this unit came erased in FFFFFFF all)
    My problem is the next:
    2 years ago have a problem wiht this. my solution was go to a scrapping cars and take a used unit.
    After i changed the circuit board from my car to the steering lock that i buyed.
    2 weeks ago i had the same problem and i made the same thing, 1 week ago, i have again the message of blocked steering.
    I tried again buying the used steering, but now i cant make it works.
    So what i should to make now. I was thinking about to buy a new one 24c04 and replace it, but i dont know if it is possible, or is mandatory to use the old 24c04 epprom from the steering circuit of the car??.
    Thanks a lot.!

      Hi
      Thank you for watching and for your comment!
      A brand new eprom should come empty... so should work...
      Do you have a programmer, to read and write chips?

    • @f.a.m329
      @f.a.m329 Před 7 lety

      i ask you this because i have not a programmer to write chips, and i was thinking to buy only the eeprom and change it. If it was not posible i will have to buy the programmer and try like you.
      I ask you because o didnt know if the eeprom has more information inside like a Vin code or other.
