Tar Barrels 2022

New Years Eve 2022 we took a trip up to Allendale in Northumbria to the Allendale Tar Bar`l New Year Celebrations where 45 Guiseres carry flameimg tar barrels through the village as and back to the Village square to the communal bonfire ignited by the tar barrels. this custom has taken place for hundreds of years/ It`s origin is said to be from a flaming torch procession to the Methodist Chapple to try and get people to go to Chapple but down the years it has eveloved in a very different direction. It is a wonderful community event.
