A beautiful film of a magical event. I recall reading somewhere that it dates from the time following the Black Death. Whatever the origins it is great to see it still being celebrated. I can't help thinking the makers of The Wicker Man drew inspiration from this event.

Apparently, it developed out of a Methodist night watch service in about 1858.
