Foden scored 11 goals for City in the league last season. He didn’t start every game, was on the bench a lot. That’s a great return, only 4 less than Saka managed and Saka started every game. Foden delivers for City, to say he doesn’t is a bit blind-sided
He also had his appendix removed and didn’t play for several months because of that
It’s not often I say this. But I’m with Rory. Everything england has achieved thus far has been in spite of Gareth Southgate not because of him.
Southgate is just lucky he faces a lot of weak opponents. Whenever England plays against a half decent side, they can’t win.
Have thought that since the defeat to Croatia.
That semi final and the Euros final we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
And also the fact he's still selecting Maguire and Philips when they've barely played for their clubs is ridiculous, we're back to picking players on reputation and status.

I played footy in the park with my mates growing up as many did, usually first to 20 goals was the winners time permitting and there wasn't a manager in sight, we knew to win we had to defend attack and score, again not a manager in sight, my point is all players involved in the England draw with Ukraine have been playing footy many many years collectively, played in many leagues and competitions and if they don't have the savvy now to go win a game without having their hands held by whatever manager then they haven't got their fingers on the pulse of how to play the game never mind win.....too much money and too much mollycoddling today!
Here's the tragic irony of it all---Gareth's sympathy and empathy for player's emotional health & strength has built this entire team back better than it used to be, except in situations where Gareth gives too much love and emotional protection toward flawed underperformers (such as he himself once was at England). His power and his weakness as a gaffer are the same.

Overrate Foden? Something wrong with your eyes!!! The issue is because Southgate doesn't know where to play Foden or who to drop for him because Foden is so different from every other player in the squad. The kids movement is one of the best I have ever seen for an Englishman, his touch and short passing just unlocks teams who bank up against us. It is mind boggling how a player like that isn't in our midfield. For me it would always be Foden, Bellingham and Rice with Maddison as a swap for Foden or Bellingham and JWP as a swap for Rice. A player who can flow through a game like he does needs to play for England. Pep doesn't start him as often due to the fact his movement is so free flowing and if you look at Pep players, he likes them sticking to positions playing a role. However vs the tougher to break down teams he always starts Foden!!
The argument about players can be subjective, I think certain players suit certain styles of play and players like sancho I think are just playing in the wrong team. You can’t discard how good he was at dortmund, I think he’d suit a Tottenham style of play where there’s always a lot of forward options and free flowing style of movements rather than locking into a position on the wing.
A YES man who has cost England 1 Trophy should of been sacked after Italy 1 nil up after minutes leaves a child in the firing line ,England should of beaten Italy 3 or 4 nil that night your grossly incompetent manager cost you,s that game like about half a dozen more going no were with Slowgate
The winning international sides in the last 20 years or so, have all either had a generationally talented player in every position, or a winning system with players to suit it. I still don't have a clue what our style of play really is, and I think the way our recent tournaments have ended illustrates that whatever that style is, it is most certainly not a winning strategy.
If we were to rotate the players like Henderson, Maguire, and Phillips out of the squad, for ball playing players, creating a first 11 like this:
Pickford
Trent
White
Stones
Luke Shaw
Rice
Foden
Bellingham
Saka
Kane
Grealish
With Trent obviously playing the inverted role, or moving White into that role and bringing in Guehi or Tomori, it feels like we would never lose the ball, while still having sufficient pace and defensive cover to protect against transitions - even against the very best teams!
I don't blame the guy for staying in his dream job and earning a huge salary, but I would be absolutely delighted if the FA were more ruthless and tried to upgrade on Southgate over the last summer; ultimately, they're the ones responsible for him remaining in place, so all my resentment is reserved for them. Southgate has a level, it's not elite and it's therefore unlikely to be him that influences us to win anything, I just wish the FA saw that and showed some ambition 🤷
Hopefully Scotland get the win and Southgate gets the sack
You do know that, if the same players play (Pickford Maguire Henderson Rice Kane etc) & England Win he’ll say “Coz they’re world class players” If we lose “They’re just too tired!”

Foden miles ahead of Maddison has to be a very bad take.
Maddison has 81 G/A on 167 apps playing for Foxes.
Foden has 56 G/A on 133 apps playing for the best team in the league who absolutely dominate games.
James also helps at the midfield and presses, something that City players dont need to do that much. For example Maddison has 26 yellows on PL records, while Foden has only about 2.
Even if we agree that Foden is better (I personally dont), there is not way that "MILES AHEAD" is a valid argument.
Maddison is now playing for Spurs and he's looking brilliant, give it time and the truth will shine!
My problem with Southgate is 2 fold. He doesn’t play form players and can’t read the game to make substitutions. He’s a follower not a leader.
Harry needs to be in the squad. England need Harry. Hope he plays against us

Was a daft story about Newcastle being linked to Sancho (as well as half the world's players) in the summer and I thought with what Howe had got Joelinton, Almiron and Jacob Murphy playing like it would of been a good bit of business. Either way I think he needs to move for good of his career but deffo not Saudi. Italy or a return to bundesliga would be way to go.

The big question I have about foden is if u take him out of city and pop him in another team would he be able to handle it and shine and be a main man. not sure
Sancho at Forest wouldn’t be such a surprise as a loan in Jan. He’s worked with Cooper before and might need the minutes if has any hopes for the Euros. But would need to better than Elanga and Hudson Odoi to get in the team.
Sancho would not get in the Brighton team. Mitoma, March, Adingra and Fati all ahead of him. He would be competing with Buonanote and Sarmiento for occasional minutes in the cups or loaned to the championship.
Managing International football is very different and require a different attributes. It’s a mute point saying he wouldn’t be a good club manager. Flick was and outstanding club manager but his attributes didn’t transfer to international management. Also at some point You have to look at the players for poor performances, it’s not all Southgate, even though I do feel tactically he can be found wanting

Foden for me is exactly like Scholes for England, not used in the right position so you never see the best of him. ANY other Intl team in the world the team is built around him not him having to slot in.
Don’t often agree with Rory, but I do on Foden. In Pep’s false 9 system he played a good deal and I don’t know if people are braindead or just suffering from recency bias, but Foden played through a slight foot injury before the WC (look it up it’s been documented)which is why he was absent from the team in the last few games leading up to the WC. He then played through it, did more damage and was out for a while post WC. When he was back up and running, he got appendicitis and was out for another 6-weeks. Or is he supposed to play through foot injuries and surgery?
You can’t watch Foden and think his lack of talent is the issue, its the manager.

England have a number of impediments which hinder them winning major tournaments. It’s not just the manager. We see great individuals but sadly they often lesser than the sum of their parts when they get to a major tournaments. Stop hoping and treat it for what is when England play at the euros this summer. It’s ultimately the football they produce that will determine how far they go.
“Phil Foden is light years ahead of Maddison” absolute hyperbole. Yes he’s achieved more in his career but side by side on the pitch it’s hard to say he’s ‘light years ahead’, Maddison is quality.

8:42 Stones should be dropped. He's the oldest, and while he's excellent for City (where he's protected), at England he's got mistakes in him and is injury-prone/clumsy. John is also noticeably worse without Pickford behind him, so if Ramsdale breaks in that leaves him out in the cold.
Southgate is out of his depth. Doesn't want to play foden in the centre because he doesnt play there for city, but insists on playing maguire, who doesnt even play for utd. He needs to move with the times, drop maguire and henderson and give someone else an opportunity at CB with foden in the centre. The fact is, with the group of experienced players southgate has, they aint won anything, so why keep playing them. If you use the same players, you'll get the same outcome.

both are amazing players but very different profiles, phil is more technical, better dribbling, etc whereas saka is a better finisher, has more power, etc.
thats not to say phil cant shoot or saka cant dribble, they are both great just different profiles.

8:35 following Jack's career, it's evident he's a ticking time-bomb of addiction and emotional problems, to the point I feel a bit sorry for him in spite of his success. He's currently out with 'injury' (and we know what that means euphemistically) as we type. He's got lucky these past few years. England are just International footballs biggest losers period, let's face it. Won one World Cup 57 years ago for one of the most prominent & richest footballing countries who've had some absolute dream squads in that time. Currently again in the last three or four years they've had some of the best depth of talent pools to choose from. Southgate is mediocre at best as a manager but how much influence does any International team manager really have on a squad anyway in the extremely limited time most nations are together on International duty? I always think it's a bit overblown tbh.

Gareth feels a lot for his team, more than a typical Prem gaffer. He's essentially a surrogate parent or brother figure to some (especially those who've been with him since 2015-16). As much as he's wrong to coddle, one can't blame him for wanting to defend his lads, they're like his wards.
Fact: Phil Foden is not better than James Maddison.
I would not be surprised if in a couple years we hear that he has a history of mental health problems. The potential has always been there but many times we heard about him being late City and Dortmund yet on the pitch he was great. I would love to see Sancho get out of England and go Italy or even back to Germany to rebuild himself.
