Good video. The issue is the mainstream don't like what the fans are building. So they blame the fans/youtubers for abuse and bullying but they don't watch the content and just put in the AFTV box of a few years ago where you've got prats swearing and being aggressive about players outside the ground. Yes we do get a bit over the top passionate on occasion but the vast majority of conversation is opinionated, educated and constructive. This comes from watching a lot of football and genuinely caring about your team. Mainstream is stereotypically scripted and is currently vulnerable. That's the part that's usually missed in these conversations. Fans pay their hard earned money for a day of escape from their troubles only to turn up watch highly paid professional serve up performances that stink. Yet, they are expected to remain silent, get over it, and rinse and repeat.
Someone once asked me if I watched women's cricket and football, and I told them, "not really." They asked the reasons that I don't and I said, "when I (men) watch men's sport, I (men) let them know what I think of their performances. Playing for your country is a privilege and responsibility. When maguire passed on west ham and first team minutes over money, he should have not been selected for England's squad. He decided not to stay sharp because he wanted more money. It is well within his rights to do that, but he made a choice not to stay as sharp as possible for his country. Don't say it wasn't over wages, because he was willing to make the move to west ham and United wanted to sell him, but he wouldn't take a pay cut so the deal fell apart. Also, he would have gotten nowhere near United's starting 11, except for injuries to Varane, martinez, lindeloff, and Shaw.

Its true Mark has a huge audience that he hasn't built in a week or a year, and is fairly right on his opinions. If he came out and said oh Harry Maguire should start every match for United despite his form, he would lose his grip on the audience in minutes. The English media can't stand when an English player is criticized, but is often first in line to criticize foreign players. I'm not a massive Goldbridge fan, but he's 100% on the nose! In fact, I would say that he's been too considerate. Maguire has been awful for 18 months, and Southgate isn't doing him any favours. I'm a United supporter and it's United's fault for signing him for a joke transfer fee, putting him on such high wages and making him captain off the back of absolutely sod all and then playing him relentlessly to try and back Ole's stupid signing and the massive fee they paid for him. He should have been dropped and moved on long before Ten Hag came in but carrying on with him as captain and starter for so long brought more hate on him with his terrible performances. He had no business ever stepping foot in Old Trafford apart from when he was visiting with another team. None of that is Harry Maguire's fault though, anyone would sign the contract he did. However, this summer Maguire was given a very good route and option out and away from Man United, to a level more suited to his playing abilities and by all accounts he didn't make the move because he wanted a bigger payout from United. I have absolutely zero sympathy for the guy when he turned down a very generous offer from another PL more suited to his level and he's chosen to dig his heels in a stay. He's not good enough for us and never will be. Every time Southgate picks him when he doesn't play any club football it adds more fuel to the fire.
The kindest thing for Maguire would just be to not select him for England. That would be the ultimate reality check for him and would likely force him to move away from Man U to get consistent club football back.

The second that own goal went in maguire knew what was coming, the fact it's him does make it worse than if dunk scored an own goal but he's brought it on himself from a number of poor performances. It's almost expected that he'll make some sort of error.

Southgate tried to get Maguire some playing time and it backfired really. That's how I saw the situation.
The problem isn’t JUST that Maguire’s playing. It’s that he’s stealing opportunities from players like Colwill, Guehi, Tomori, etc. Those are just 3 players that are FAR better defenders than Maguire and they all actually play week in week out for their clubs.
I think the issue is that social media seems to confuse criticism of maguires footballing ability with him as a person. Also confusing abuse with criticism.

Haverts has been made fun of all season. The games that we won, the media headlined “What is Haverts role at Arsenal” despite us winning the game. English media will still berate him all season even if we win the league. What about the mental health of him? Same goes for Xhaka. Mental health is only important if it’s an English player. Look at how they are protecting Sancho even though he is acting like a brat while performing like a championship player.

Rory on this occasion is spot on. It's not CZcamsrs, youtubers more often than not echo the sentiments of the common fan. The problem with Maguire getting all the abuse is Southgate's and Maguire's fault. Representing England is a meritocracy and Maguire doesn't get in based off merit at club level. Everyone knows he is Gareth's boy so in order for the fans to be heard they speak. This host is clearly pushing a narrative for his own gain because there is no way he believes what he is saying.
Out of all Utd’s club statements, at least Maguire mommy statement shows Maguire is not a trouble maker.

It’s unfortunate that some fans want to take the criticism beyond football, but that’s what happens when the pressure is on. I haven’t seen anyone in the media being particularly unprofessional in their criticism.

The other guy has a point though. Much of the criticism and mockery of Maguire by people is down to meme culture, rather than an objective critique of his performance. It reminds me of how, last decade, some sections of the internet regarded Heskey as a joke footballer, not because he was that bad, but mainly because of KSI comedy videos. Maguire right now is a 5.5/10 player, but the way people go on you would think he was Titus Bramble from the 2000s or something!

I’m not a Southgate hater nor do I want him not managing eng. He has however, handled the maguire situ badly. To have faith and keep picking is fine while the form allows it, after that being a longer term issue, you have to rotate to shield the player and the team.

Hi Rory, New viewer here. I totally agree with you and you speak sense. For me Maguire should not even be considered. No football player should ever get called up to play for the country and not be playing regularly in the clubs. I would like to see the next generation come through to be honest.
