  • The Beretta PX4 Storm has been out for nearly two decades now and continues to have somewhat of a cult following around the pistol from people who still love it and shoot it actively to this day. Not only does it have a low recoil system, but the decocker / manual safety system still provides a great alternative to many who increasingly fear carrying a handgun safely with a round in the chamber. In this video we discuss the various features, variants, and why the Beretta PX4 Storm is still a popular option for many shooters today.

I just bought one. Very accurate. Shoots because of the barrel like a .380 in terms of recoil. Kinda heavy but I would recommend this gun to anyone looking for a FS gun. I wanted a safer gun, and this fills that need as well.

I’ve shot the PX4 Storm again this year (last time was around my mid 20s and 34 y/o now). All I can say is that I should’ve held it better back then. Now I’m VERY ACCURATE with this. Only thing I still don’t like about this is the long DA trigger pull and the wide grip, taking me extra time to fix my grip (at least my hands are big to the point it really isn’t difficult to grasp). I love the look of this and this is why I chose to rent it in my mid 20s.

I have both the full size and the compact (not the sub-compact). I bought another full-size for my son-in-law. I liked the double-single action, but hated the safety. It takes 10 to 20 minutes to convert the gun to decock only. You just have to have some punches and look at some how-to videos. The decock gives you the heavy first pull, which should take care of the accidental trigger pull that you get from light single=action guns.

The PX4 Storm Comact (F type, cocker/de-cocker) is my everyday carry. I would prefer full size, but it is approximately 1 inch longer than the compact. Reasons I like the PX4 compact; 1) double/single action (very safe) and 2) very manageable recoil. The full size has a 4 inch barrel which makes it a bit more accurate than the 3.2 inch compact barrel. If my PX4 storm compact starts getting old and worn I will buy another one!

The tall sights are for co-witnessing with a red dot. S&W geared this for optic use which is why the didn't release a version without the an optics cut. S&W is known for having different models of the same thing. I would've did themselves well by release a non optics version with standard hight sights.

I think you can add a third level of saferty by getting the lower profile thumb safety wings, available online from Beretta. They are less prone to snag. IIRC they were part of the pistol's original design, but a government contract called for more a more prominent thumb safety.
I think Langton Tactical has mods to lighten up both DA and SA. That is not my preference for both safety and reliable ignition reasons, but obviously Langton knows what he is doing in terms of preserving reliability. However this is NATO approved/ qualified in stock condition and my preference would be completely stock except sights. Is yours modded? The trigger pulls are both very light.
While a double action style long and firm trigger pull adds a lot of safety, imho, during range practice and everyday handling, imho only a snug holster that prevents fingers, shirt tails, and debris (keys? Chapstick?) from entering the trigger guard gives me real peace of mind. Military and police need no impediments shooting, it makes nervous when civilians are a no safety, light and short, striker pull away from bang.
Beretta offers an alternate spring on its website for high volume +P, +P+, NATO, M882, and M1152 spec ammo. That's a nice touch and only $22. Steel rod too. No warrant breach, Beretta part!
Finally, I know that there are Beretta parts to convert from F condition to G, so my preference is to try F first (decocker and safety) and move to G if I forget to flip the safety off too often.

0:30 PX4 is actually a polymer-framed alternative to the 8000 Cougar series, not the 92 series. It's literally a Cougar with plastic frame, and simplified take down controls (i.e., Glock style).
4:56 There are actually THREE different sizes of PX4: Full, Compact, and Subcompact. The only thing different for the subcompact model is that it's too small for the rotating barrel system to work, so Beretta uses the common tilt barrel setup :)
I've never felt or confirmed this gun has any perceivable reduction in the felt recoil or muzzle rise/flip, compared to my other similar full size 9mm such as Glock, FN Hi Power, Colt 1911, and Rugers and CZs that I no longer have. The only confirmed observation is the slide retraction force (recoil spring tention) is noticeably less that all my other 9mm full size. To me the slide is just a little easier to rack, to my wife it's significant, to the point she didn't need to try a second time to confirm PX4 is the lightest or easiest to chamber a round :)

LOVE THIS VIDEO. #1 in reviewing the Beretta PX4 Storm. I bought one ($649.00) 3 months ago. 4 out of 10 bullseyes the others were very close. Very, very close.
This Pistol is so under rated. Why? IDK. SMH. Some say it looks like a Hi-point. I say; I'm Loving the PX4 Storm. I replaced my primary, Glock 19 (3rd Gen), For the Beretta. This is, IMHO, definitely a WAY better pistol. Better trigger, DEFINITELY a FAR better finish, better sights, Definitely MORE ACCURATE. I'm telling you I'm just loving it. I'm looking for a Drop leg holster (Nylon) any suggestions please? Also, Which ammo brand should I avoid using with the PX4? Thank you.
Oh, btw, you weighed the Beretta with NO mag in it & you weighed the Glock with a mag in it.

Glad to hear the emphasis on safety. I have one additional safety concern. I think it is advantageous to be able to rack the slide - to chamber a round OR de-chamber - while the safety is "on", to eliminate any risk of a "fumble and grab" (finger slides into guard and instinctivel grabs tight). Does the Storm allow operation of the slide while the trigger is disconnected?

My PX4 is one of the most accurate, easiest shooting DA/SA pistols I own. It equals or out performs my Sig P 226, HK USP compact, and others. One thing that no one has satisfactorily justified to me is that all of my others in this format can be carried and fired from the decocked position, while Beretta clearly states the PX4 is not to be carried decocked. They all decock short of the hammer being fully forward. Is there something different about the Beretta action or is Beretta hyper sensitive to liability issues or what? What is the reason for the difference?

Just picked this up with a Wilson combat #12 spring. I canceled my order for the Px4 with the safety, initially i did not think it would be a problem but the design of that safety could cause you to inadvertently prevent you from firing. There is no way this gun can fire unless you intend to fire it in DA. You could drop it, throw it shake the trigger around in your hand and it wont go off. I found the "G" in the CA model and that is declocker only. The F model is the one i canceled and the one in this video.
Single action for sure needs a additional safety but on a DA gun like this? That gun is not firing unless you intend to fire it. I never liked the whole idea of the safety to be honest, i think it gives people a false sense of security most of the time and you get those people "Don't worry the safety is on" when the safety was actually in the live fire position. If you take the Safety out of that equation and no long think about it, you just simply know your gun will fire if that trigger is pulled but with the DA it has to be deliberate.
of course you have to be more vigilant about securing/storing it but again that would apply with a gun that had a safety anyway.

this gun has a learning curve, a.k.a. it's not intuitive to pick-up and shoot.
