$20 Hummer H3 Front Differential Bracket Bushing Fix - Discontinued Bracket Bushing Fix - DIY

- Welcome back to the channel! LINKS BELOW!
Today, I cover a cheap fix to the relatively common problem on the Hummer H3. Front differential bushings are a big issue on these but the passenger side bracket has been discontinued and there are no cheap drop in bushings to repair them. I'd found several options for bushings but they were all $300+ and no one could give me an ETA on them.
With that said, found a few posts on www.hummer4x4offroad.com forum by a member "4speedfunk" (gotta give credit where it's due) where he was able to use a common bushing with a bit of work. Figured it was worth a shot and so far, it's a solid fix.

17:49 Just did this to my H3 yesterday, wasn't quite as easy as yours Lol..the stock bushing sleeve was rusted fast! Had to bur grinder it out , then did rest as you showed...Perfection my friend, Orderd the kit as you showed..$20 as u stated 👍 Thanks much..greatly appreciated 😊
Nice! Glad you got it sorted. It's a shame GM discontinued the part.
Your Vide has save me from proceeding to remove the brackets and purchase new ones. And since only one side is available, you have save me from breaking my head and trying to find the other side. Great Video. Well explain.
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for making this video.
Needed to do the same, and was dreading removing things to get to the bracket.
Again, THANK YOU.
Glad it's helpful. Hope it goes smoothly!
Thank you.... Looking forward to fixing our Hummer H3
Hope it helps! Thanks for watching. So far, it's been holding up great according to the owner
Thank you so much for making this video.
Glad it's helpful!
Awesome repair job. Might have to check my H3.
Appreciate it!. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
I'll have to check mine. Just noticed that the bushing on the cross member for the front dif was completely toast doing a trans service. Wouldn't surprise me if these bracket bushings were completely gone too.
Yeah that rear bushing is pretty common. I'd replace them all with poly while you're doing it and never have to worry about it again.
Very nice!!! I had to do something similar to that on my 99 eclipse spyder about 12 years ago. I just couldn't find the bushings anywhere. I don't remember which ones it was now, as it has been so long. I ended up rebuilding the engine and did a lot of body work and full suspension rebuild on that car. Got over 250,000 miles out of it before I sold it.
Sometimes you just have to make it work. Lol
@The NotSoGrand Garage Hi, what site did you get those energy suspension bushings off of?
This also works on Stock non lifted Hummers if you take off the center cross member holding up the differential. This drops the differential down for more room
Good to know!
thanks! will try this soon, trying to replace as much as i can without spending $400 on small things
Still working great according to the owner!
Thanks 100%
Appreciate you watching. Glad it was helpful
If I was doing this on a H3 that isn't lifted and had to remove the CV's...should I replace them or anything else while I'm down there with it apart?
If its higher mileage, I'd consider CVs and hub assemblies.
How long did it take you to do this? And how much is it to get it fixed?
A couple of hours and ~$25 in bushings. You'd have to find a mechanic willing to do it and ask them what they'd charge if you are unable to do it yourself.
Hey sir have you found any bushings already cut to spec like you cut them your self? And how much did you cut the metal that goes inside the bushing?
No one makes the bushings already cut sadly. I didn't measure but I cut the tube the length of the bushings so it's flush.
@@NotSoGrandGarage alright thank you i will be ordering mine right now thru your link you helped me i help you thanks again 👌
@@EDGAR15ish appreciate it and no problem
I replaced the bushings and they work great i had to replace the crossmember one too it was gone.
Anyways the real issue i have is i hit a big ol pothole and my rack and pinion inner tie rod broke and it was already leaking but before the pothole my steering wheel was working perfectly
I replaced the rack and pinion the sway bar links the outer tie rods but my steering wheel is still feeling heavy and when i turn it and let go it doesnt go back to center.
I want to try an alignment but dont wanna end up having to replace another part and have another alignment done. What do you think could be wrong my steering wheel has some play in it from the looks of it its comming from the steering column but i also saw one of my upper control arms missing the camper pin idk if it moved when i hit the pothole. Do you think the people doing the alignment might be able to diagnose or should i have a mechanic look at it just to diagnose and i can change the parts my self
@EDGAR15ish most places don't charge to check the alignment... sounds like caster and toe are out a good bit. If nothing else is loose linkage or suspension wise, get it aligned. Most places have alignment warranties too.
Do you recall what size washers you used and how many per side. Looks like 2 on pass side with the bushing contacting the mount plate
They were 1/2" IIRC.
Thank you did you put one in between the poly and fame
@@user-iy8hl9sc4z I don't recall.
K thanks bud.. You're the best. Have a great day and hope all is well
@@user-iy8hl9sc4z no problem and appreciate you watching!
What are the symptoms caused by this piece if it is ruined? And if it is possible that the answer be in an Arabic translation, please and thank you

Thank you for your quick response and I find your videos useful
Can you please direct me where I can purchase the bushings
I need them for my truck I have the same problem
I ordered mine off Amazon but you can search the part number on summit racing, jegs, ebay, etc. It's a super common bushing.
@@NotSoGrandGarage thank you
@@mathewbartholomew5176 no problem! It's a really straight forward fix and so far, the bushings have been doing great according to the owner.
eBay
What is the part number for the bushings
Are the left side and right side bushings identical?
The bushings are.. the plates are not.
@@NotSoGrandGarage thanks
@@jgrenwod no problem!
Do you remember off the top of your head the torque specs for the brackets?
I do not off hand.
@The NotSoGrand Garage OK thank you, I will keep.searching for torque specs
@sweetpinay907 www.hummerforums.com/forum/hummer-h3-17/torque-specs-h3-32901/
Says 114 ft. Lbs for the mount brackets.
What are the symptoms of these bushings been worn?
Clunks mainly... a visual inspection will typically find them.
Front differential mounting bracket bushing is not serviceable, GM was just replacing whole bracket with bushing. Now, since we can't get that part - they only way is to replace bushing
Yup... and they don't make a replacementbushing either. This is a great option and is holding up great.
@@NotSoGrandGarage Great job btw, changing without pulling CV axle is genious!
@@CanadaLifeVlogs thanks and thanks for watching
Parts geek has it for 29.99 right now.
The bushing they sell is the rear support bushing. I've never seen an aftermarket replacement for the side mounts. Same bushing here and you can see it's placement. It's called a "support bracket bushing" but it's the rear. www.amazon.com/Differential-Support-Bracket-Bushing-Hummer/dp/B07K8S2W79
