  • Welcome back to the channel! LINKS BELOW!
    Today, I cover a cheap fix to the relatively common problem on the Hummer H3. Front differential bushings are a big issue on these but the passenger side bracket has been discontinued and there are no cheap drop in bushings to repair them. I'd found several options for bushings but they were all $300+ and no one could give me an ETA on them.
    With that said, found a few posts on www.hummer4x4offroad.com forum by a member "4speedfunk" (gotta give credit where it's due) where he was able to use a common bushing with a bit of work. Figured it was worth a shot and so far, it's a solid fix.

      Nice! Glad you got it sorted. It's a shame GM discontinued the part.

    I'll have to check mine. Just noticed that the bushing on the cross member for the front dif was completely toast doing a trans service. Wouldn't surprise me if these bracket bushings were completely gone too.

      Yeah that rear bushing is pretty common. I'd replace them all with poly while you're doing it and never have to worry about it again.

    Very nice!!! I had to do something similar to that on my 99 eclipse spyder about 12 years ago. I just couldn't find the bushings anywhere. I don't remember which ones it was now, as it has been so long. I ended up rebuilding the engine and did a lot of body work and full suspension rebuild on that car. Got over 250,000 miles out of it before I sold it.

  • @scottrothmann8310

    This also works on Stock non lifted Hummers if you take off the center cross member holding up the differential. This drops the differential down for more room

    If I was doing this on a H3 that isn't lifted and had to remove the CV's...should I replace them or anything else while I'm down there with it apart?

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Před rokem +1

      A couple of hours and ~$25 in bushings. You'd have to find a mechanic willing to do it and ask them what they'd charge if you are unable to do it yourself.

    Hey sir have you found any bushings already cut to spec like you cut them your self? And how much did you cut the metal that goes inside the bushing?

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Před rokem +2

      No one makes the bushings already cut sadly. I didn't measure but I cut the tube the length of the bushings so it's flush.

      I replaced the bushings and they work great i had to replace the crossmember one too it was gone.
      Anyways the real issue i have is i hit a big ol pothole and my rack and pinion inner tie rod broke and it was already leaking but before the pothole my steering wheel was working perfectly
      I replaced the rack and pinion the sway bar links the outer tie rods but my steering wheel is still feeling heavy and when i turn it and let go it doesnt go back to center.
      I want to try an alignment but dont wanna end up having to replace another part and have another alignment done. What do you think could be wrong my steering wheel has some play in it from the looks of it its comming from the steering column but i also saw one of my upper control arms missing the camper pin idk if it moved when i hit the pothole. Do you think the people doing the alignment might be able to diagnose or should i have a mechanic look at it just to diagnose and i can change the parts my self

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Před rokem +2

      @EDGAR15ish most places don't charge to check the alignment... sounds like caster and toe are out a good bit. If nothing else is loose linkage or suspension wise, get it aligned. Most places have alignment warranties too.

    Front differential mounting bracket bushing is not serviceable, GM was just replacing whole bracket with bushing. Now, since we can't get that part - they only way is to replace bushing

      The bushing they sell is the rear support bushing. I've never seen an aftermarket replacement for the side mounts. Same bushing here and you can see it's placement. It's called a "support bracket bushing" but it's the rear. www.amazon.com/Differential-Support-Bracket-Bushing-Hummer/dp/B07K8S2W79
