    The difference in his game from the first season when he was quite raw to his second season was unbelievable. Even from the charity shield against Man U it was obvious he had stepped up his game. Shame he didn't continue to grow like that. Could've been an incredible striker

      You could say that Anelka was more talented than Henry , but the latter had more determination and was a better profesional .

    See that last move in this clip with the faint shot and then blasting the ball past the keeper?.. that's what got me into supporting Arsenal fully and the epl in general. Watching Anelka as a kid was really life changing.

      Really easy to see why so many black kids grew up supporting Arsenal. Wrighty, Anelka, Wiltord, Henry, Kanu, Vieira, Cole, Sol…All heavyweights in their own right.

    This guy was 2 years before my time as an Arsenal fan. I got my first shirt in 2000. But wow, he was so naturally talented, amazing goals, balance, pace and skill

    Been eagerly waiting on this one. Devastating talent. Had a career most would be proud of and it still wasn’t fully befitting of his talent. Spent too many years at clubs below his level.

      @@souster98 Agreed. He had some quality years for City and did look really good for Chelsea in 08/09. But after what he showed at Arsenal, he should have rivalled the top strikers of his generation. Just never happened.

    In early 2000's I used to watch games only because of him. The only striker that excited me more than him was Brazilian Ronado but Anelka was right behind him. Imo he was one of the fastest players I've seen with the ball.

    The plan with Wenger was to play Bergkamp as an attacking 8 with Henry and Anelka up front. Imagine how good that would of been

    I’ve heard some elite CBs say that Anelka was more of a problem for them than Henry, especially in early years. Even in Clairfontaine it was common knowledge Nico was supposed to be the era defining striker beyond Titi and Trezeguet. Tbf, Nico was more frightening for us at such tender years. Goes to show how much effort, development and fortune played out for Titi to take it all the way.

    On the pitch he had everything. The problems were off the pitch. He left Arsenal too early. He had Bergkamp, Overmars and Viera backing him up.

    He was not selected for world cup 98( win double with arsenal) ... not selected 2002 or 2006🤷‍♂️

      The season leading up to WC98 he only scored 9 goals in all competitions and other players were more experienced....also did France miss him??
      It's worse than saying Beckham & Scholes should've been at Euro96 because they won the double with ManUtd yeah but they'd not yet been capped for England and McManaman, Anderton etc... had been regular PL players in all the PL seasons up until then & had been internationals for a decent amount of time.
      2002 to 2006 Anelka played for ManCity. Who were newly promoted to PL 2002/03.

    Was so so good when he starred for Arsenal. Worst decision for HIM was to leave for Real. Arsenal got loads of money for him and it worked out for us but He never completed his training to reach his full potential. Never played again with the same intensity and freedom at all his other future clubs. Arsenal was the one place where they would have built the team around him.

      I still remember him walking towards the penalty box from the corner, while Lampard already taken the corner. His intensity is gone But, Anelka doesn't care attitude is his biggest weakness, and his biggest advantage. I remember Chelsea losing 4-1 against Man city(if im not mistaken) and Anelka is the only one that performed like he usually did while others making silly mistakes and being wasteful.

    I got so hyped when he signed for Real Madrid, I had watched videos of him playing. It was a beast.
    Unfortunately for us he came to Spain just to enjoy his wealthy status with no intention to progress as football player. He was mentally unstable and very lazy. Such a pity.

    He definitely had the potential to become one of the greatest strikers ever but he left arsenal too early and ended up playing for over 10 teams and the way his international career ended didn't help either. Henry was definitely an upgrade which I thought was impossible at the time

    Forgetting that one left for the other to come in, it would've been interesting nonetheless to see Anelka & Henry at Arsenal together in their primes. It's a shame how his time in Madrid changed the trajectory of Anelka's career...

      Look at the level henry reached tho. how many strikers in history peaked higher than Henry from 02-06. Yes Anelka had incredible talent maybe more naturally gifted than Henry but it’s hard to see how he would’ve surpassed the level of peak Henry. For me he probably would’ve been just a notch below or equalling him at best not surpassing him

      After he left Arsenal yeah but when he was between 18 and 20, Henry wasn't even in his league. He had such a high ceiling but wasted his talent.

      On the ball there's not much difference and Anelka was way better with headed chances although Anelka's numbers for Arsenal weren't that good although they were in a more defensive team compared to when Henry joined them and Anelka was very young at Arsenal amd only there for 2 years.
