      Always thought he should have won in either 2003 or 2004. Don’t get me wrong, Nedved and Sheva were rightful winners… but over Henry those 2 years was crazy. 100% robbed him. Still gets me mad thinking about it lol

      @ronniep9272 Před 10 měsíci +15

      He underperformed in the Champions League, the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004. Scoring lots of goals in the Premier League when it was 3rd or 4th best league wasn't going to win him a Ballon D'Or.

    • @kitbag4237

      @ronniep9272 He score 77 goals and countless assists for Arsenal in the CL. Also, Michael Owen won the balloon dor in 2001? You talking nonsense, mate.

    • @ronniep9272
      @ronniep9272 Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@kitbag4237 yes Owen victory was undeserved, but there was no other standout player that year apart from Raul. Take your Premier League lenses off though, as I said it wasn't the league that it is now. Henry was seen as a Serie A flop and the Premier League was only considered a top league in 2005 when their teams finally started winning the Champions League regularly. Otherwise it was seen as below Italy, Spain, maybe even Germany. A domestic title at Arsenal simply wasn't good enough to win the award in the early 2000s. Owen won because Liverpool won the UEFA Cup at least. Henry was a great player but didn't maximise his potential in my opinion.

    • @kitbag4237
      @kitbag4237 Před 10 měsíci +21

      @@ronniep9272 I'd agree but not one argument you've made is valid. Start of 2000 Man U where still champions of europe, Liverppol won it 2004 season and Arsenal were runners ups 2005. 2005 - 2016 ony 2 english teams won it. To say the PL was poor before 2005 is absolute nonsense, 93 - 98 id agree. Henry won the Euros in 2003, is that not a major honour, under performed, he out scored almost every winner during that period. Mate your not making any sense.

    His last season at arsenal he slowed down a lot. I remember watching from the stands and was sad to see him standing in the middle a lot waiting on the ball to arrive. He wasn’t coming out wide like he was before because the electric pace wasn’t quite there. Then he went to Barca and they played him as out and out winger… 6”2 and a lot heavier than his prime.. it was ridiculous but he still managed to perform at a high level. Henry should have won at least one or two ballon d'or in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, he was so unique and underrated back then, he was almost unstoppable and genuinely a very good all-rounder authentic player. ☯️✌️

    Mbappe is pretty much the new Henry. They're so similar in terms of speed, technique, and style that fans today will get to see why so many people love Thierry. Mbappe still has a ways to go in terms of polishing his game, he's gotta be more consistently present in matches when he doesn't have the ball and work on his playmaking, passing, and general team play, though he's still 24. Plenty of time for him to match and possibly exceed Henry. Difficult to compare 2 players when one has completed his career while another still has 10+ years to go.

    For years the entertainment of the prem league really just came down to what he did on a weekly basis. Lost a lot of interest in football when he left for Barca and I'm a Man City fan. Sure we win everything now but the Henry years were the peak of the prem league. He was king. I hated the fact he went to Barca esp after that CL final which I blame him for losing. The echo of that match was the now infamous and utter humiliation of "ARSENAL UNO MESSI QUATTRRRROOOO" . It represented the resulting fortunes of the 2 teams. The world will not recognise now that under Wenger Arsenal were playing the kind of football Barca at the time could only aspire to. If they had won that CL final, Wenger's Arsenal could have cemented their spot as the true pioneers of that possession game. But they not only lost, their king joined Barca who went on to exceed Arsenal's quality which no one will talk about now. I'll never forget the beauty of Wenger's Arsenal, with Henry as the talisman. You never wanted the 90mins to end. As a city fan guys we'd look forward to getting thoroughly and explicitly violated in front of a live audience at least twice year!! esp if it helped bury the scum

    Before there were better players than those of this current time in all game positions, even in "goalkeepers" therefore it is ridiculous to put Mbappé on the same pedestal as Henry, knowing that Henry faced better players than those of this time If Henry still played today at the same age he was in his prime, everything would have been much easier for him.

      It’s not ridiculous to say at all. Mbappe has been on the scene since he was 18, performing domestically and most importantly for the national team. This whole “the old generation” were better and the new generation wouldn’t perform is silly. Mbappe is a generational talent, just like how Henry was. As time goes on, new players will surpass what the old ones did during their time. Mbappe didn’t choose to be in this era, but he’s still lighting it up either way. It’s safe to safe that most likely, by the end of his career, mbappe will be the better player compared to Henry. It’s just how life goes.

Look, Henry is naturally gifted player, but if you truly his fans, you would realize after his big injury, in his final season with arsenal he lost so much of his pace that used to be his main weapon. I thought some injury like that could prevented by doing some exercise in the gym to stronger his muscle. And thats would probably make his career last longer than originally
