I mainly just follow 🏀 and ⚽ so it is interesting to me what it must be like in the two sports bc in basketball there are players known for defense but everyone plays both sides of the floor every play. I can only imagine if you spend a whole career basically just waiting for Henry or Pele or Messi or Mbappe or someone like that who has been blessed by God to come down the pitch and make you look foolish at least one out of every 5 times.

And his mind & thought process would have not been put to good use without his ability to question his skils every week so as to better himself. He has a tremendous knowledge of the game, not only its technical aspects, but of its History too. He would watch dozens of games every months and analyze most of them. He worked a lot, an awful lot. His analysis are always deep, accurate, on point and give great hindsights on how top players think and act.

Henry is the best TV analyst right now hands down. He has such a depth of understanding of the forward position and even better is able to articulate it so well. I think he could one day make a great coach. Very good teacher of the sport. He takes you into the thought process of players

Crazy the admiration he has for someone just 1 year older than him, and beat numerous times (World Cup final in 98, and World Cup in 2006 in 1/4). Henry is arguably the greatest Premier League player in history, and definitely among the best strikers in the game. It's nothing but sheer humbleness to praise a contemporary rival and direct competitor and say "I learnt how to become a better player thanks to this guy".

I thought he was a bit overrated too until we played Monaco in the UCL Round of 16 in 2017 and an 18 year old Mbappe decided to annihilate us in Pep's first year... now granted our defence was quite old and we had a bad GK but still... he showed up at the big stage in them 2 legs... he was unreal. Just in general actually that Monaco team... we talking Mbappe, Falcao, Fabinho, Bernardo, Benjamin Mendy (who was unreal for Monaco), Lemar and then some other quality players like Bakayoko, Glik, Sidibe and Subasic in goal... some team that.

Henry described in an interview how much his father, who was his coach in little league, influenced him by being ruthless about effort and quality of play. His dad gave Thierry a hard time driving back from a game they had won 6-0, telling they had no excuse, they should have scored 11 or 15 goals. Thierry grew up with a hyper motivation from his dad, and he worked for his skills and mind set .... and lately he has understood that Mbappe Is made of the same stuff. These guys train and get better all along their career.

Gotta give props to Henry's mentality even as a child, I've seen so many kids when I played through juniors with parents like this and they just couldn't handle the constant pressure and criticism. Takes a special kind of mentality, especially at such a young age, to not only push through but thrive off that kinda coaching. A mentality I'm very envious of and wish I had more of as a child myself.
Mind you TH has admitted that throughout his career, he was suffering from a permanent depression as no goal was ever enough, from the training he received. He was permanently in the imposters syndrome, even as he thrived both in UK teams and French official team. @@samwyeth8547

R9 was the most dominant player when he stepped on the scene. When he was in his prime, there was no comparison to anyone else. Injuries did its thing and he didn't have the longevity, but in my humble opinion the best football player I've ever seen play.

exactly on Henry point, I remember how it felt when R9 had the ball in a game, my blood was rushing because I felt he's going to dribble a lot of players and the way he did it with a lot of power and the beauty was just one of my top favorites.

I really miss watching my fav player all time. I was fortunate to see him very early in his career when he still played for AS Monaco in the UEFA Cup vs Mönchengladbach on October 15th 1996 (thanks to the internet for finding this date). Watching this guy made me develop interest for football.
Back then, there was no relevant internet, so cable TV was the only opportunity to see him play rarely. He firstly showed up on the big stage during world cup 1998 and became a famous player, but not a star yet. After a short stint at Juve, where he was used as a winger and couldn't score many goals (3 in 16 games), it was Arsenal London and coach Arsene Wenger who really helped him become the great player that might became a role model for young CR7 or Mbappe later on.
Coming from Hamburg, Germany the best opportunity to see him in real life was an UEFA Cup game in Bremen on March 23rd 2000. So my dad took us there and I witnessed him play and scoring a goal, but also receiving his only red card in European competitive football. It was an amazing experience.
The following years he improved like each year and scored more goals anybody had expected in his early years, where he hadn't been very efficient.
The only thing, he wasn't able to achieve has been being the top player of a team that wins the biggest trophy. In 1998 he was too young and Zidane was the main guy for France winning the world cup. In 2000 he performed ok on that French team who won the EURO 2000. In 2002 and 2004 he was in his prime, but France couldn't win a title. In 2006 France made the world cup final again, but Zidane was their best player. As Arsenal's best player he couldn't lift them to the UEFA Cup in 2000 losing to Galata and not to the Champion's league title, losing to Barca in 2006. Then he joined Barca to win the CL as their maybe 4th or 5th best player in 2009 at age 32.
So Zidane, Ronaldinho, Messi and even Hagi took the spotlight on the biggest stage from him. But regardless, it was very very special to see him play. Thank you, Titi!

His prime on barca and inter were not normal at all. he could do everything he wanted to. Then he had the bad injurys with his knee and changed as a player alot but STILL (2002ish up to real madrid time) was the best player says it all really. He sadly was hindered alot by his injury. and yes messi and cr7 got 13+ years of top performance but were also lucky af with injurys. R9 is the biggest "what if... he didnt had the injurys" in football. There was another brazilian of similar power.. we all know his name: adriano. but sadly the dead of his father took all his happiness away and he declined fast in success.
