Or another example was Chimaev who really struggled against Burns and was really exhausted in round 3, I think a 5 round fight with Cardio BEASTS like Colby Covington will be a hard time for him)

    I can't speak for my ingushetian & dagestani brothers like for my own people, but in chechenya we wrestle a lot at young age. Adult men don't wrestle except for professional athletes of course. Fighting is a part of everyday life. It isn't exactly dangerous either bcs normally it's just wrestling for competition & there are no too hard feelings.
    But actual disputes are also often settled with a fight - not wrestling with rules, but an actual fight. I remember our neightbor having enough bcs his son was being insulted by our other neighbors son for weeks & telling them to fight & settle it out. Both fathers in addition of a few dozen kids & several other adults watched as 2 boys (roughly at the age of 11) fought untill the bully gave up. Everyone cheered for the underdog, everyone went their way & they got along from that day on, although they didn't exactly become friends. And that happened in one of the bigger cities. Georgia also has a top Sumo rikishi, or wrestler, over in Japan, named Tochinoshin. He was and still is a beast of a man, saddly scared by his immens strength. He went on to go to Ozeki, the second highest rank in Sumo, known as the hardest rank to keep, because of the huge pressure you have to endure because of expectations of the Elder-Stock of Sumo. Saddly, he isnt Ozeki anymore but was, for a long time, the most promising Rikishi in Sumo, because he lifted other wrestlers that are heavier AND bigger than him, out of the ring 👍 just a quik fun fact, now that i found this random video 😊 I just like to spread the message of Sumo 🙌 Its WAY more than just "two fat dudes running at each other". its History and should be seen as a real combat-sport. And believe me: Rikishis of the lower divisions would wrestle people like Nurmagomedov straight out of the building, with no problems 👍😅 please dont take this as an offence 😓

    When it comes to wrestling, the best wrestlers tend to come from specific regions of their respective countries where it’s common for most of the population to enjoy watching wrestling matches at the amateur level, even at elementary school level. In Russia, it’s the Caucasus region. In the U.S., it’s the Midwest. In Iran, it’s nearly the entire country as wresting is the national sport.

    by some of their own account, part of the reason is because of how frequently they actually fight as amateurs. while i'm sure nurmagomedov's previous claim that islam makhachev has over 200 amateur wins is embellished, i have no doubt both of them fought *a lot* before they went pro. that's always a factor

    • @AndreBland
      @AndreBland Před rokem +10

      It’s very unlikely that it’s embellished. A wrestler in the USA alone wrestles that many matches in high school if they’re top tier. Secondly, wrestlers both freestyle, folkstyle, Greco, and sambo simply compete more and have tougher competition than other combat sports. Let’s not forget the fact that wrestlers are used to cutting weight. The fact that they’re using to getting slammed, they’re used to basically being choked in front headlocks, etc. MMA is an easy transition. Hence why wrestling is the most dominant base in mma.

Outside of MMA we have boxing world champion (Avtandil khurtsidze) multiple Judo and Wrestling Olimpic and world champions and strongest weightlifter of all time Lasha talakhadze (his coach was also olimpic gold winner in weighlifting) one of the best Armwrestler Levan Saginashvili is Georgian too. Makes perfect sense and I do think they’ll continue to dominate for the foreseeable future. However everything in MMA shifts, wrestling is dominant now but eventually people are gonna start developing more TDD or better ways of getting up like Volk and then I think we’ll shift to a more striking dominated era of MMA. Just like how BJJ was dominant at first because no one knew what it was but now everyone has a black belt in BJJ.

    • @madgavin7568
      @madgavin7568 Před rokem +17

      The big difference you can tell with these wrestlers today however is that they aren't just wrestlers like Mark Coleman was back in the day; they're well-rounded, they can strike effectively and many (particularly those from the Caucasus) are well-versed in submissions. Case in point, Islam Makhachev. Primarily a wrestler/grappler but as we've seen in his past two fights the man can strike with some of the best in the world like Charles and Volk. The takedown threat increases the danger from the striking yes, but Islam does have an eye for openings allowing him to see shots coming and land solid counters even against world-class strikers like Volk.
      Its going to be a lot more difficult to solve the puzzle of these Caucasian grapplers than just training BJJ to deal with the Gracies back in the day. Its going to take a very elite, well-rounded skill-set with a lot of cardio and ticker to compete against them.

    My ancestors have been banished from Chechenya in 1850s or 1860s I think, to Ottoman empire, now Turkey. We are still somewhat true to our roots. Nobody married anbody if they are not either chechen, dagestani, or circissian. My parents still speak the language(not my generation unfortunately), we still play the accordion in our weddings and dance, still eat the same dishes, and I have been wrestling since childhood with my cousins, my father and uncles. My uncles still challenge each other or their sons or nephews randomly during a family meeting, all of a sudden we lift the coffee table aside, push the sofas to the walls and go at it. It's a way of socialising, like you are playing football. I remember being shocked in school when I found out my classmates are not wrestling at all.

My genetics look and are built similar to Caucasians (not as tall due to Turkish genes affecting that lol). My grandparents generation did not retain the Adyge language unfortunately but our habits of always casually wrestling each other maintained as well as love for the accordion. Just seemed so normal to do so :)
      I make it a mission to restore my household’s long lost Caucasian culture in today’s generation :)

    its not just dagestan its all kavkaz peaple. They are a seperate ethniscity from russians. peaple of this ethnicity are georgian, armenian, cicasian, ecs. the kavkaz ethnicity has does big mountian genetics wich makes them elite fighter, pair that with the wrestling culter there and you get scary fighters. that region has a very low population because they would constitly get concerude and enslaved by muslims as well as eroupeans. and you can tell if somones from kavkaz if they have a big nose, eyes with alot of depth causeing there eye socket to be more exposed, as welll as having dark hair collors. these facial fetures as well as having mostly chin beards is the reason they all look the pretty much the same.

      @@Neil-qg9cw I don’t know of what world class training facilities in Dagestan are you talking about. They just learned everything from Khabib’s father, who was a genius in understanding and teaching grappling and who did everything at his expenses. They only had the luck of being raised by a man who was one of the greatest coaches. And Abdulmanap mentioned that he wanted to train them combat sports to keep them away from getting into trouble.
      In first world countries, there are more opportunities and you usually achieve things on your own. In Dagestan, they value so much combat sports because there aren’t other ways to make a name of yourself.
      Maybe the privilge they had was that they lived in a community where they helped each other compared to the West where everything is focused on individuality. But maybe this is the key of why Dagestani fighters dominate + the hard training and lack of distraction.

    I think drugs and alcohol are not the ones that sidetrack people, it's mental illness, which then ends up in drugs use or alcoholism. I was a champion in a sport in my country while I was using substances, because at the time I still really wanted to succeed in that sport. I sacrificed a lot and made it, even while being addicted. Then I stopped abusing substances, so I should have even been even better at the sport. But a little while later I stopped the sport, because my mental illness got to me... It's easy to paint a picture where alcohol, drugs or pills are the issue, but the issues are complex.

    I think one major part is that fighters can't see through the Hardcore Russian image. Volkanovski did though. He treated Islam as just another opponent. He worked hard. I am paraphrasing what Khabib said, they believe, but after 1st round they don't believe.
    But Volkanovski did not lose his composure. And it only kept getting stronger and stronger as the fight went on. Sure, he didn't win, but the idea that a Dagestani fighter and that too, a champion, a student of Khabib's father, got under ground and pound, is no ordinary feat.
    I am telling you, Sambo guys will not have that same dominance, at least if they fought disciplined athlete. Their aura of invincibility is gone. Mark my words.

    Debend the city in Daghistan, the oldest city in Russia was the north part of Sasanid empire long time ago, Derbend (in Persian Darband) means closed door or gate, the ancient fortress in Derbend is the remaining of one of the numerous fortresses around Sasanid empire responsible to protect the Persia against foreign invaders.
    People in Degistan originally selected among the best worriers and settled over there to make sure the NORTH GATE (Derband) was perfectly protected.
    Since the date of treaty of Gulistan in 1813 between Persia and Russian, Russian occupied Dagistan and included that area to their own territory which created so much uprisings against Russians. Dagistani people always kept their own identity and they are proud of their brilliant history.
    Those worriers in Dagistan passed their gens to their future generations as you can see so much fighters nowadays in that region.
    Also other factors such as Russian systematic sport organizations help people to flourish and reach to their potentials.
