This video is ikonik
It wasn't the money. It was the fact that the UFC stopped allowing IV bags to rehydrate. After he couldn't make 145 any more he fell off. He never had much success at 155.
When you hear young Connor talk about his dreams and aspirations he literally did EVERYTHING he wanted to and more. Once youâve achieved your dreams it gets to the point where your just going through the motions
I understand what youâre saying but, explain him sucker punching old minute bars, explain him attacking peoples religion, culture, attacking peoples families what is that to do anything with MMA or with money. It seems more like he has enough money that he can be who he really wants to be without necessarily facing any repercussions.
Not sure if you know this but, the old man that he sucker punched at the bar, after he settled with the old man and the old man did not press charges, Connor bought that bar and then banned that old man from ever coming back. That is just a lowlife piece of shit thing to do.

I get the guy totally, he has everything he dreamed about. He became a champion, became a superstar, literally outgrowing the sport he competed in, made fortune, made big business. All cards fell into his hands the way they should and he played them all masterfully. Now he has a lifetime in front of him to enjoy fruits of his success. Why would he risk all of that with a life-altering injury in the cage when he has nothing left to get, nothing left to prove, just for the sake of "being at the top" for one more season?
Comfort is the death of every great man.
The whole purpose of fighting professionally is to make money. He achieved his goal and his family is set for life.
A comment of a guy who gets it!
It's such a pity that the UFC never had Conor in Croke park (Ireland's National Stadium) in his prime, it would've been the biggest UFC event ever and arguably one of the best Combat sport atmospheres ever
Still to this day his performance against Eddie is just insane.
I feel like Conor achieved everything he ever wanted to .. let the man enjoy fruits of his hard work
That's true but let's not pretend he's anywhere near today's hungry athletes the game has passed him.
@@mohsin7702I mean, ye.

McGregor made Aldo too angry to think strategically which ultimately ended up in his victory. He used the same strategy against Khabib but it instead backfired completely in his face to the point where Khabib was just a few seconds away from completing his promise of permanently changing Connerâs face by almost breaking his jaw and after the fight a big brawl starting.
Wouldâve been interesting to see if Connor fought Aldo and Khabib without angering the respective champions so he can strip their belt. Mental warfare is also a part of the game, but man did they have two big different outcomes.
Thing is by the time he got to Khabib he had lost to Diaz and Mayweather and I believe he had acted cordial towards Alvarez after beating him. Going against Aldo it was one of those where that aura of being a legit savage was in its prime but that gradually wore off. In boxing, fighters like Roberto Duran had a similar situation where he insulted Hall of Famed Sugar Ray Leonard and beat him in the ring only to be embarrassed and made to quit on his stool in the rematch.
One of the biggest "what if" in UFC. And a pretty unfair situation regarding the usual standards of the organization, because even in those days dominant champions got the immediate rematch, but not Aldo.
And the reason is it was the worst choice for the UFC in terms of cost/benefit, risking having Conor lose to Aldo was too much, the hype train would have suffered a lot of damage, and that would translate to lesser money for the UFC out of milking Conor's popularity.
@@MrMMAJER Idk, that was such a f'ing bad beat, inexcusable, that I'm fine with 'you don't deserve a rematch.' It also could've provoked the yips in him too, and it could've been a repeat of the first, and that is too painful to watch, more painful than a severe beating.
Conor could fight khabib a hundred times and khabib would beat him every time. He walked right through him in their only fight, embarrassed him, conor was totally outclassed, viva khabib the GOAT
@@SmashyourXanaconor had a 2 year layoff and didnât train much still gave khabib the best fight. Clown

I might cry if Chandler KO's him like he did Ferguson. Another Conor run would be insane but it's unlikely. If he could hypothetically manage to bring back that hunger he used to have, I actually favor him over Oliviera and Gaethje

I don't think money "ended" him, because we don't know as fans if he just reprioritized. I'm sure most of this audience knows but he could've reached a point where he attained more than he thought he could, and he intelligently transitioned to focusing on branding/business. A lot of people talk about Shaq's legacy in basketball but he himself said he saw the writing on the wall and adjusted his focus to keeping his empire large and growing it over time
The money allowed him to make that transition so yeah, the money ended his career, even if it was by choice.
Always a good day when TJ drops a video đ
Money magnifies who we truly are.
Hungry Conor is not as cool as Welfare Conor. Thank you Eddie
I believe the great Marvelous Marvin Haggler said it best when he said, "it's hard to wake up at 5 am to do road work when you are sleeping on silk sheets. Connor just proved what the Marvelous one already knew, once you lose that hunger, you are finished.
I'm not sure it was money as much as ego/fame. He already had more money than a reasonable person could spend when he fought Mayweather. However with Mayweather he had one of the biggest PPV of all time, he was a 2 division champion etc. etc. I think he just started believing in his own superiority and to a certain degree his persona started to meld with his personality. He stopped listening to anyone else because "I'm the best ever, why would I listen to anyone else" and he just became crazier and crazier.
He did what no one else has ever done before (win two belts in dif weight classes, fight one of the greatest boxers) His persona/act that sold the fights became him IRL eventually because thatâs what people wanted to see. When you act too long and the world revolves around you, you kind of lose yourself along the way.

Like many have said, Conor achieved all his goals that he set. He's got a family, so maybe he just wants to see his kids grow up and spend time with them. The UFC schedule can be very brutal with all the interviews and media obligations.
If he continues with all the booger sugar its highly unlikely that he will see his kids grow up
It's not just money, it's family. That's pretty clear in his documentary. He has a beautiful family now and nothing, not even fighting, is more important to him than them.
The height he reached is incredible. No one stays on top forever but hardly anyone will rise that high
Totally agree with this assessment. Connor will never be same. When you have a mountain of money. What's the motivation to be great? Some can handle that kind of success others can not.

Something I hate to talk about, because Iâm still learning focus, is what everyone says about doing one thing. Thereâs truth in focusing on a single objective, but like you said, he fought, he won, he lost, and he did what he set out to do. I think that calls for a reevaluation, and new wood to be burned for the sake of a new fire. Having worked out in gyms, you donât get to UFC if you donât love fighting, so I donât want to say the love is gone. Iâve rewatched the fights with Dustin multiple times and really think he gets overlooked cuz he lost. He was right there with Dustin in both fights until getting clipped. He definitely isnât top 5 lightweight right now but he sure as hell deserves more credit than heâs given imo. He accomplished his dream. he shouldâve retired after the alvarez fight and gone down as one of the greatest fighters to ever live.
He's wrecking his reputation. Getting in fights with security after trying to get MGK's autograph: Literally every way that goes down is an L for him. Stupid bar fights he's not even winning. L. Alleged violence against women on a boat, L.
The thing about that shit talk was that he backed it up. He called his shots and then he made them. That's ballsy and impressive. That's what Shane Warne used to do in Cricket, he'd literally do a little tutorial for the kids at home in breaks showing all his spins, and the other side could still see it, and he'd still wreck them. He did not care if you knew what he was doing because he knew that he outclassed you and projected that confidence.
But "She's in my DM's" shit? Arguing with bouncers? It's fucking weak. At a certain point you've got to rein in your confidence and remember that people like you because you make good, targetted cracks that promote the fight, not sad, overblown wet farts of statements at better fighters.

I think it's great that Conor decided to take Chandler as his comeback fight. Now his career truly is over if he loses so he has to decide during preparations how he wants to continue his career. If he really wants it and gives everything I have no doubt he wins that fight, and Chandler is good enough that Conor can really try to revive his career after that with the hunger he has to find to win. I don't really see Conor as a someone who would be coming back "legacy" in mind for one fight and retiring after winning that. Another viewpoint: It was bound to happen regardless of his success. He was amazing at featherweight with his karate stance, longer reach and shorter opponents. But lightweight in the UFC is the most stacked out all weight divisions. There's no way he would of beaten them all and much less defended the belt.
