    If you look carefully Kuvira was a background character in a lot of the scenes at Zaofu. She was one of the dancers with Su Yin at the beginning, she helped save Korra from the Red Lotus during the attempted kidnapping, and she was the one you guys complained was walking too slowly to investigate after Ai Wei escaped.

      I know I am 3 years late to point this out...but I finally figured out how earthbenders lava bend. Everytime Bolin tried to metal bend his hands were shaking from trying so hard. And I guarantee you his hands were shaking with fear when he tried to lava bend. And that's why its so rare and why Bolin can't metal bend. Metal benders are unbelievably stiff while bending and are practically motionless in their bending movements, even while airborne or flipping. Bolin is INCREDIBLY loose. Which is the opposite because it's like air bending as an earthbender.

      My current theory is they hold their breath as they do it. Liquid is condensed air molecules and all fire power comes from breath control. So holding their breath is condensing their supply. It’s harder to pin down since fire benders technically shouldn’t control lava since its rock.

    Bolin lava bending was one of the most satisfying moments of the series. Also many have rumored that the reason Bolin can lava bend is because he has a father from the earth kingdom and a mother from the fire nation which would explain why we haven't seen lava benders before cause the nations were very separated before.

    *Mindblowing* episode!!! Seeing P'Li literally implode her head like that was so brutal! I thought the Earth Queen dying like that was horrible but this was a whole other thing. Su is a fuckin' savage!
    I love the Tonraq/Korra dynamic during the fight! I especially loved the part where Korra rolled under Tonraq while he simultaneously jumped over her. It happened real quick but when I saw that part, I fangirled so hard xD
    I also loved the moment before Bolin actually lavabended. If you pay close attention to his face, you can literally see his face going from desperation to acceptance within seconds. He knew death was immediate for all of them yet he accepted it and charged forward. Man, ever since Ghazan was shown to lavabend, I started having this feeling that Bolin could possibly lavabend as well. That possibility grew even more when he was having a difficult time metalbending. When this moment happened, I knew Bolin was going to do it. He was thrown into a life or death situation and imo, death can be a powerful motivator and I saw this moment as a possible awakening of sorts for him. Turns out I was right!
    Zaheer just leveled up!

  • @chmzzzly
    @chmzzzly Před 6 lety +28

    It is very interesting to see how Zaheer accepted P'Li's death so quickly that he immediately was able to let go all his earthly tether, even his friends Ming-Hua and Ghazan he knows since his childhood. That means she was the only reason helding him on earth. In ATLA S2 E9 Iroh explained Zuko the four elements, nations and their mentalities and he said "air is the element of freedom. the airnomads detached themselves from worldly concerns and found peace and freedom".
    Although this is something every airbender does (or has to do) only Guru Laghima and Zaheer were able got this rare ability in the entire history of the avatar universe, just like lavabending or psychic bloodbending. I love the philosophy behind the two Avatar series!

  • @Damo2690
    @Damo2690 Před 6 lety +687

    Well one of Bolin's parents was a FIRE bender and the other was an EARTH bender. Maybe that has some influences on it
    EDIT: I think this has more to do with his Chi/Pah/Chakra being more aligned rather than Genetics of Benders. Also remember he is a "light on his feet" Earth Bender (S1xE2) and his whole go with the flow attitude, maybe that helps him tap into Bending the liquid Lava

    • @JenABlue-ed1bw
      @JenABlue-ed1bw Před 6 lety +102

      This is exactly what I think. The only other people we've seen lavabend are two Fire Nation avatars, an Earth Kingdom avatar, and someone whose parentage we don't know. It's very possible that it requires a connection to both Earth and Fire--either an Avatar or an Earthbender with a touch of Fire in their blood. Which would also explain why it suddenly showed up in Korra--the only mixed Earth Kingdom/Fire Nation people prior to the end of the 100 Years War were in Fire Nation territory, where Earth Bending was illegal. It's probably only after the war that mixed-race people had enough freedom to discover what they could do.
      (Also, I'll be honest, I just like the idea that, in a world where powers are based on your race, that there's a special power for mixed-race people.)

      Ginny855
      Because Lavabending as a sub-type of Earthbending is very rare, seeing as how we've only seen _two_ non-Avatars do it by now. Because it's so rare, it'd make sense Roku and Kyoshi wouldn't be able to do it with _just_ Earthbending skill, seeing as how neither Aang nor Korra could Bloodbend either, which is much more common than Lavabending, by the way. If it's such a rare ability, it'd make sense that, instead, they'd use a combination of Earth- and Firebending.

    • @Ginny855

  • @varunnarayanswamy8084
    @varunnarayanswamy8084 Před 4 lety +1

    Lava bending makes so much sense for Bolin. Think about it. His mother was a fire bender and his father was an earth bender. Of course, he is only an earth bender but I think it totally makes sense that his mothers fire bending has an influence on his earth bending. It kinda goes back to Guru Pathik says about the 4 elements being an illusion. If you think about it we've seen mixes before. For instance, water benders can convert water into steam, theoretically heating it up. That seems like something a firebender can do it. Lavabending seems similar to this, heating up rock to the level it's molten and earth bending that.

  • @Ganji1996
    @Ganji1996 Před 6 lety +23

    It pisses me off so much when people keep thinking that lava bending has something to do with fire bending. It doesn't. It also has nothing to do with one of the parents being a fire bender. It is just the ability to melt earth. Like water benders can freeze water. That's it. That's the whole mystery, so stop trying to interpret more into it.

    • @nathanielreik6617
      @nathanielreik6617 Před 6 lety

      It is possible that lava bending could be due one parent being a fire bender. As they said in the episode they never really saw in in TLA where the nations were divided, but now they don't act like it's a rare ability and now there's more mixing of people. So far we only know two lava benders and the only one we know the parents of had one parent an earth bender and one a fire bender.

    • @Ganji1996
      @Ganji1996 Před 6 lety +1

      Nathaniel Reik they do act like it's a rare ability because it is. A water bender freezin or vaporizing water is basically the same as an earth bender melting/heating rock/earth. Lava bending needs more temperature which is why ice bending is very easy but lava bending is not. There just were no lava benders in atla because lava wasn't really considered an element of its own but more like an add on to firebending. But in Korra they realized that lava ist literally molten rock which makes it a sub bending style of earth bending and only earth bending. The temperature of the element doesn't make it fire-ish.

    • @nathanielreik6617
      @nathanielreik6617 Před 6 lety

      Looking online I found that Avatar Extras explained that lavabending is a combination of firebending and earthbending and as such only the Avatar could do it. It was then changed into a rare specialization of earthbending for Korra. This obviously doesn't prove the theory of fire and earthbending parentage but it does give it credibility.

    • @octo448
      @octo448 Před 4 lety

      I agree. People are obsessed with this dual parentage thing and I personally find it really off putting. Defining people by 'what' they are is very un-like Avatar. All we learn from Mako and Bolin is that you can inherit bending talent from either parent.

    If you read the ATLA comics, you'll notice that when Zuko and Aang tried to get the benders to return to their respective nations after the 100 year war, some refused because they had already created families with different benders. So, that's why when Republic City was created, Zuko and Aangs dream for it was that all types of benders and non benders could live in peace.
    When it comes to Bolin getting lavabending, the way I interpreted it is is that it's a combination of his genetics. His father was an earthbender and his mother was a firebender and the combination of those elements is magma. So when different types of benders had children, the potential for new subspecialties emerged and lies dormant in the primary element, earth..Kinda how lightning is a subspecialty of firebending and Mako has that ability. Perhaps Gazan was one of the first to tap into that specialty

    • @Monyato
      @Monyato Před 6 lety +1

      Killian why tf would you call me a moron it’s just a theory. I also have another theory that you’ll probably agree on. So my theory to why all of the new airbenders came from the earth kingdom is that fire lord Sozin DIDN’T kill all airbenders/nomads because there’s just no way he could’ve killed ever single one, so some of the airbenders were not at the temple at the time of the attack and Sozin knew this so he laid traps for them such as fake air nomad sanctuaries and he still caught a few nomads but the air nomads remaining started to catch up to them and find out about all the traps so they went into hiding by completely dropping their airbending history and living a new life so the reason why there aren’t any new airbenders in the fire nation is because why would they enter enemy territory? That’s practically suicide and why aren’t there any on the north or South Pole well that’s because the air nations all surround the earth kingdom so it would’ve been easier for them to just enter the earth kingdom and because of this they got married and had kids and the airbending gene started to fade away during the generations and harmonic convergence somehow opened up this airbending gene and why air bending and not any other bending well because air bending is the most spiritual bending they can even do things such as astral projection wich means leaving their own body and returning to it so that’s why the power of the spirit world unlocked all the airbending genes and that’s why all the new airbenders are from the earth kingdom

    • @Woronoa
      @Woronoa Před 6 lety

    btw Ghazan = Toph in terms of learning how to bend "extra" element. They somehow are masters at earthbending and was able to evolve their bending further from pushing themselves over their limit and imagination.
    Bolin is more like Lin Beifong where as "genetic" kinda have a help in them bending "extra" element where Bolin = Fire + Earth parents while Lin = (Earth/Metal) + dad.
