    I love my Glock 20 but both of my M&P 9mm's are absolutely flawless. No matter what ammo I used I never had one single jam, failure to feed, or any issues what so ever. I just ordered another one in FDE 40cal with a 5" barrel. My shield 2.0 is my primary carry gun. However my cousin bought a Glock 43X and I love the way it shoots and fits in the hand. Both brands are great pistols but I would have to stick with Smith and Wesson

    Good video. It's a mechanical device, you might run into issues once in a while, yes even out of the box. MOST mechanical devices need or require a break in period. My Brand New G17 Gen 5 FS had to be sent back to factory for failure to go into battery and sometimes failure to pull back to clear the Chamber. Both issues were fixed within a week and a day! The G34 Gen 5 FS, has been flawless and so hasn't my M&P 2.0 4.6" Threaded barrel after 300 rounds. The Honest Outlaw was using Low Powered Cartridges... S&W states to Factory Nato spec ammo. That's what customer service told me.

    I've got the S&W M&P 9 ProSeries CORE M2.0 5", to which I added the frame-mounted ambidextrous manual thumb safety (really quick and easy to do in under 10 minutes with just a small needle-nosed pliars and a steel 3/32" pin punch).
    It's been 100% totally reliable through about 3,000 rounds these last three years since I purchased it.
    It permanently retired both my Gen3 Glock 17 and 34.
    I always carried it during wilderness trail biking / hiking / camping with Underwood Ammo 9mm Luger 147 Gr FN HCL +P rounds, until I acquired my 10mm Auto pistol.
    I think it's a great firearm, and my son loves shooting it, too.

    I have the Glock 34MOS gen4 and I absolutely love this gun! I installed Ameriglo Spartan night sights and I bought three Glock 20round factory extenend FDE color magazines which really sets this gun nicely! After putting a Holosun 407co 8MOA red dot on my Glock 40 , I’m going to have to buy another Holosun for my 34 . I kinda wanted to keep it a sights only gun but after my last trip to the range I was bullseye every first shot at every target with my g40 with its Holosun, almost not even a challenge 😁
    I was thinking about the S&W 2.0 to replace my old g19 I sold a year ago but I’m gonna have to think about that .

    I love both guns. But I believe the M&P with the manual safety and that stupid chamber loaded indicator is an issue. That chamber loaded indicator alone just gets in the way of the smooth and uninterrupted “flow” (for lack of a better term) of the 9mm shell casing, going in and out of the chamber. I ordered the 5.0 M&P in FDE without those two unnecessary parts and what I believe were just needlessly thrown into the gun’s design for the military testing.

    • @Sam1628
      @Sam1628 Před 3 lety

      I have the 5 inch model with the loaded chamber indicator. I’ve noticed the brass has a slightly weaker brass ejection over my M&P Compact. It’s definitely the loaded chamber indicator resting on top of the brass. Luckily a $15 part from Apex gets rid of it. Your model without the loaded chamber indicator is definitely the one you want

      @@Sam1628 Ha! I purchased an Apex extractor. However I only have it as a “spare” part, in the event I need it. So far, there’s no need for it as the shell casings in both of my M&P 2.0’s eject strong and smooth. I’m glad the Apex extractor has worked out for you with your model. I used to shoot IPSC and help out at an indoor range that had Glock rentals. I have seen many many Glock malfunctions and I have seen several of the rental Glocks break. Usually, it was the piece that you depress to remove the slide. The slides would just fly off the front of the frame. Admittedly these guns were severely abused and never maintained.

    • @AlaskanBallistics
      @AlaskanBallistics  Před rokem

      Yeah how did the m&p's do? I used to work in an indoor range too and we would only clean them when they would start jamming badly. Never had a glock break. Taurus, Beretta yes not glock

    • @bigjimmy6690
      @bigjimmy6690 Před rokem

      @Alaskan Ballistics This was before the M&P was even thought of. This range only had a couple of random guns off and on besides the Glocks for rental use. Probably part of the reason for the problems was the ammo they sold to shoot in the rentals. They bought reloads with cast bullets from a local guy. I know at the time Glock said not to use cast bullets, and you can imagine how dirty the guns were after thousands of rounds of that crap. Considering the abuse, they actually did very well.

      Well, I would choose the glock because I didn't have to get sent back to the factory to be reliable. I'm not saying they are perfect or don't have issues, But if you can't shoot them because of the grip, that aint a gun problem. That's a you problem. But I digress...

    Ugh with a long slide, double stack capacity so it’s a wider body I got to go with 10mm over 9mm. I got the XDM OSP in 10mm with a compensator on the end to bring the length out a bit and it not only adds the extra weight but handles the recoil even more than just being a longer barrel and slide. So for me that’s the one I like, personally I just don’t care for 9mm out of a FULL size handgun, it’s better out of a sub or complete compact. I get the whole range gun 9mm, but I like to practice what I’ll use, other than my .22 s&w AR which was given to me for plinking I don’t own range only weapons. I got a M2.0 Shield but it’s the sub compact single stack .40s&w with the “normal barrel”. It’s my every day carry while my XDM is home defense and hunting handgun, although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t carry my Shield even more often than my XDM on hunting trips when I’m trying to go light and it’s an easy pocket gun that still packs enough oomph for the panthers, black bears, people and other threats I’d encounter. But still, if I ever go out West or all the way to Alaska I’m bringing my 10mm for sure. Which hey I know Alaska Ballistics agrees with the best millimeter comment, if the wife wants a softer recoiling gun then hey happy wife happy life, but why some men like big a ol double stacked 9mm pistola over a 10mm is beyond me.

    Very informative. I’m looking for a new hobby because my shoulders no longer allow me to use my bow effectively. I’ve always loved handguns but have never held a license. In Australia the process for licensing and possession of any firearm is long and exhausting but I think it will be worth it. I’m definitely sold on the Glock 34, purely for targets as there’s no carry/conceal laws for private persons in Australia; it’s strictly military, police and high grade security. I wouldn’t even consider using one for self defence, I might not be able to use my bow for what I used to but I can still hit just one target at a good range and I bet at 200m I’m more accurate than the average handgun.

    I just got a M&P 2.0 5inch and I cannot wait to take it to the range. As far as reliability is concerned, we will have to see. I have heard that Glocks are reliable, but, I have also heard that this weapon is also reliable. Out of thousands of guns sold and only hearing about 3 issues so far, is actually not that bad and I wouldn't say that it marks any real concern. Now, if the M&P has had hundreds of reports of reliability/safety issues (like the Sig M17 had) then I can see being concerned and wanting to go with something else. I thought about getting a Glock but decided against it because, well, it is overtly boring and way over rated and hyped, in my honest opinion. It looks like a small black brick with a handle and a trigger on it. That is it. I do want a firearm that is reliable and shoots good, but I also want a firearm that looks good to! Do not get me wrong, aesthetics is not the most important thing to consider when choosing a weapon, but it does matter to me at least. So S&W it is! I did like your video and you did give a pretty fair review. You just gained a new subscriber. Great work!

    I think the M&P is a nicer gun in terms of ergonomics and shooting, but I think Glock is a more reliable and dependable firearm. Smith and Wesson seems to have a real problem with quality control. For instance, I can't remove the barrel from the slide on my M&P 10mm when taking the gun apart, because the tolerances are too tight. The gun probably needs extra machining. @@wilsoncruz1952 While a fan of H&K products. Their pistols just haven't blown my hair back ( especially the price of extra mags ).
      I have heard a ton of good feed back about the Walther PPQ line of pistols. And while I have owned some of the more modern Walther offerings, I still haven't picked up a PPQ. They sure do point well and I like the way they feel in the hand.

    Cacticalmain didn’t have any reliability problems. He was concerned about the slide having a little bit of movement in it but he’s shot several thousand rounds through it since then with no issues.
    Honest outlaw’s gun had a little bit of an issue shooting low powered cheap ammunition, but ran perfectly fine with quality normal ammo.
    I don’t think you have any reason to be concerned about reliability. There doesn’t seem to actually be any trend of issues with this particular gun.

      And people have had bad reliability with glocks. Anyone can get a lemon.
      I’m just saying that your “3 documented cases” isn’t accurate. It’s just you. And you are the only person I’ve ever seen on CZcams have any issues.
      Search hard enough and you’ll find people who get a bad Glock too.
      With all available evidence your claims of having questionable reliability just don’t hold up.
      I can understand having a bias after getting a lemon yourself though.

  • @mot0rhe4d40

    Do not have that exact pairing. Pretty close though. I had the standard M&P 9 fullsize. And a Glock 19x. I had to use the M&P against an aggressive feral dog ( folks dump unwanted dogs in the mountains we live in ). Got off two shots before the external safety got bumped under fire. That planted a seed of doubt that I wasn't able let go of, so the M&P 9 went down the road. Replaced it with a CZ P10C suppressor ready 9mm. Just like the Glock, it has no external mechanical safety.
    I do miss the Apex trigger I had in the M&P 9, need to get one for my M&P 45c ( no external safety model ) which goes everywhere I do.
    Never had a trigger reset issue with either of my Smiths. Knock on wood
