The funny part of the akiyama bit is you have all these yakuza/ex-cop/detective/ bad people and then you just have akiyama whose just a really cool chill guy.

I assume Akiyama's hostess club has a "no touching" rule too, since that's the cost of most of Japan's hostess clubs. He also gave Yasuko ¥100,000,000 for only three days of work at the club, I mean, that's a pretty good deal. I don't think he's as bad as you make him sound
Akiyama is a true Chaotic/Neutral character. He doesn't take pity on others and help them out of the goodness in his heart like a Good character would do, he just does whatever the hell he thinks is right and only helps people he thinks are worth his time and energy. We already have Kiryu as the Lawful/Good character who can't say no to anyone in trouble, it's refreshing to have a more crooked protagonist.
@@CidGuerreiro1234 You do have a good point. Although I think in doing so, people perceive him as a good person for helping people out and generally having his head to the ground and hearing people. Maybe not pity, but I think partly out of sympathy cause akiyama had it rough until the first yakuza game where money fell from the sky and later building himself up. As for kiryu. I do honestly think he is a good person with principles, so lawful good is probably the best place for him. After all, he's been helping people for multiple game's even if he doesn't really want to. Even though a lot of the conflicts he's involved in are resolved by violence. He does it more so out self defense or the protection of other's. So even though he may not follow the law step by step, he does have a moral code and principles of thing's he would never do and we usually see them come out when lecturing bad guy's in sub stories or the mainline story.

Yep, and while breaking the law for a good cause is a typical Chaotic/Good behaviour, Kiryu knows that the system is corrupt and that he's a legendary ex-yakuza and ex-inmate as well, the police would never listen to him if he seeked help from them. Most of the time there's no time for any of that either, so he just punches everyone out of the way to protect his friends and family. Lawful doesn't necessarily mean following the law as a sacred, unbreakable rule, as weird as it sounds to even say that.
@@CidGuerreiro1234 I think it's more like Akiyama helps out people that are willing to take steps to improve their situation no matter what adversity comes their way. That's why he has those tests, to see if his perspective clients can go that extra mile to fix their problems or if they'd give up at the first setback. He doesn't grant the loans if he thinks the cash would just get pissed away.

Playing new characters like Akiyama was def refreshing. I really like his story, his fighting style and just the character itself. The other were good too but I think they made a really good job with Akiyama.

Reina is by far my favorite female character in the whole series! Like I'll never understand why it wasn't Reina Nishiki and Kiryu were fighting for! She's on so many levels better than Yumi and the developers had the nerve to not even give her a proper death man... She just dies off screen, like come on...

@@BlacK40k I don't have anything against Yumi, but as you yourself said, we don't have much to go for her. What I solely judge her for is the way she handled Nishiki. The guy saves her life, yeah I know that murder isn't the best way, but he does it for her, and she erases him like he was nothing. The fact that she was loyal to Kiryu and saves him in the end is all the things we can go for her. I know it's because they wanted to follow the original game, but she seems like she has no personality to me, so I never really cared for her!
@@user-xs4ix5ur3e Definitely a wasted opportunity not giving her more screen time in Kiwami 1 or Yakuza 0 to help flesh out her character. Heck, a flashback here and there showing her relationship with Kiryu in the past could have gone a long way to making her more compelling.

I love how Akiyama’s slash kicks can be upgraded to last longer than any enemy’s block duration
Another problem with four is the amount of dumb fucking twists that happen. I think the rubber bullets twist is done pretty well, but then you got the constant double crossing, and the stupid, unnecessary gotcha moments that make you go monkey mode and then you break your monitor I swear. It got so bad that I predicted what twists would happen in a cutscene before it happened.

@@SnowiestAngeman I don't know what's worse about the bullets: Majima not checking the guns and finding the bullets looked weird, Saejima not noticing that there's no blood when he's shooting people point blank or Arai not noticing that Munakata's brains weren't splattered all over the walls when he blasted him in the head. Also a mention for Munakata not dying from being shot in the head with a rubber bullet. The force definitely would kill him.

It's even super obvious in the cutscene because he was legit just telling him about rubber bullets and then Arai takes his gun and doesn't think to check lol
Another cool thing about Akiyama is that he shares the same voice actor as Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Donald Duck, Joel from Last Of Us, and Vincent from Catherine.

@@pocaniki Tanimura's voice actor, who was also an actor and I think also an idol, was accused of using drugs. In the end the accusations were false, but he took it as an attack on his pride and gave up acting.
That's also why in the remaster they changed Tanimura's face and his voice.

In fairness, there wasn't much else that could've been done with his character without making him too static, since the only way to make him more involved in the plot was to have Sky Finance still open and basically there being little change from Y4. The writing was on the wall with how he got kind of shafted in Yakuza 5 with him not even having a whole chapter of his own (hell, not even business side missions unless counting 2 dance battles). At least his appearances within 6 still make an impact such as how different his attitude to fighting Kiryu is compared to in 4.

Anyone else remember at one point Akiyama went "If youre going to get your hands dirty, Id rather you use mine." Because he just has mad respect for kiryus legacy as the dragon of dojima and doesnt want to see him resort to murder. He was completely willing to kill a bitch for kiryu, and that couldve been a chapter in and of itself, cause i mean he DOES have the resources.

I think the story is better than people think, putting aside Akiyama. He wasn't enough to save 5 and Park was way worse than Yasuko.
As much as I like Saejima, I forgot he even had a step sister while playing 5 lmao. 4 does have redeeming qualities like the new playable characters and improved mechanics from 3. But the story, AAAAHHH it hurts my brain trying to think about it.
Tbh rubber bullets wasn't as stupid as a plot point IN THE BEGINNING. Like, at first you're like "wow that's crazy twist" but then you realize there was no blood (but apparently rubber bullets irl can FUCK YOU UP make you bleed and cause blunt trauma which is arguably as bad as a real bullet in extreme cases) but when they went nuts with it it gets stupid. Like the thing that gets me is Arai shoots Munakata point blank in the head and THERES NO BLOOD WHAT HOW COULD YOU SHOOT SOMEONE POINT BLANK NOT SEE BLOOD AND BE CONVINCED HES DEAD if they did a blood splatter for all the guys Saejima "killed" and did a blood splatter for the commissioner plus roll his chair around due to force so that Arai doesn't see that the bullet was fake then it would be much more convincing. The rubber bullets plot by itself is totally fine, it just gets caught up in the whole betrayal chain bullshit which is arguably 100000000X more stupid, just rubber bullets makes it worse.
Yeah legit if the rubber bullets thing was only for Saejima it would've made the story a lot better haha

It's because killing off integral non-player characters that did questionable things is a trope in these games sadly. It's right up there with Kiryu leaving a gun by a seemingly unconscious foe despite that backfiring on him several times in the past.

The story would be much better if we had to save Hana rather than Yasuko tbh. Man, Hana should be more involved in Akiyama's story instead of being a fat secretary with mind blowing and non-sense transformation in just 2 weeks.

I do appreciate that because they didnt do that, shes shown to be actually competent and can hold her own though. Not that they couldnt have kept that and still had her be the story progression device.

The only positive that came from it was Hana getting the drive to lose weight via anger and frustration with Akiyama. Her personality just grated me and I didn't see any depth to her.

with a debt collection minigame where you start the game loaded but you get roped into giving everyonearound kamurocho money and then slowly they pay you back, and give it the 0 levelling up system but you get perks by lending money to various people so that it feels more meaningful

How do we keep Yasuko as Saejima's sister but not be in the story? Answer: include her in the flashbacks with pre-eyepatch Majima but when Saejima asks about her after Majima's boss fight in the batting center Majima goes "She's married, they flew off country a few years ago."
Only problem is how to tie Akiyama, Saejima and Tanimura's stories together, or get Kiryu involved if Yasuko doesn't come across them. You'd have to majorly overhaul to script to fix these problems.
I really hate the fact that in the second Long Battle as Tanimura they gave him a fucking briefcase for half of the battle. I love Tanimura's fighting style, it's my favourite in the whole series (except Yagami but that's a spin-off so it doesn't count) and they gave him a goddamn briefcase so I had to swing the briefcase for half of the battle. I really wish they use something similar to Tanimura's moveset in the future, I really like the parries, armbar throws, essence of combos, essence of arresting and all that jazz. And where is Tanimura boss fights my bois? They just deleted my boy after this game too. Sad...

Can we talk about how the new protagonists seem to suffer from the same problem that Kiryu does by turning their fucking backs on defeated enemies who then proceed to get up and either kill someone or, in the case of Y4, themselves.
Here's a thought: stop kicking guns to just barely outside of arms reach and then leave them on the floor, leaving the antagonist sitting / lying there unguarded and then proceeding to turn your back for long expository dialogue with your buddies!
I go psychotic every time they do this, literally pause the game to scream at them, because I know exactly what's gonna happen. PLEASE STOP DOING THIS. WHY DID ARAI DROP HIS WEAPON??? TANIMURA DIDNT! BECAUSE HES SMART (and that must be why we never see him again)

I'm surprised you didn't mention the final boss battle with tanimura. I hated that shit so much and I thought the final boss would be with kiryu. I was also unprepared as fuck for the final bosses bc I thought it was all going to be kiryu so I gave him all the good shit from the other characters. Idk how I even beat it LMAO. But seriously tho I feel like munakata's boss battle was just very poorly designed it reminded me of jingu's in kiwami but imo, even worse. Especially since he's the actual final boss
Yeah don't worry I hated it too haha but the series was mostly looking at little things whenever I would be serious, but big things whenever I was joking. Thank god though that once you beat Tanimura's final boss the game ends because I would've been angry if I had to keep playing after that shit haha

tbh, i rly loved this final boss fight. For it was just funny to spam parry and see, how half of the guard just fall to the ground (but yeah, than Munakat just shot you, and than guards just lock you in a animation and you lose 40%, because you cant just fall to the ground xd)
Deleting that saejima and haruka scene would be a massive improvement. Also akiyama deserves more boss fights.
But why though? That scene shows that saejima is a good guy, and that he doesn't act on his impulses like a horn dog, as awkward as it was, it's why kiryu decided to help him too because he realized despite being a yakuza and convict saejima was a good guy, after battling him of course.

I wish that Saejima had actually *SPOILER* killed the eighteen men because I felt his character had more depth because of it. Unlike Nishiki or Ryuji, he still had a chance at redemption due to having constant regret at his actions. It also presents a question of morality for the other main characters as only one has had a psychotic murderer turned ally (Kiryu with half of the characters in the series) and could've made the finale that much better. But no, RUBBER BULLETS.
Oath man, especially since a big part of Saejima's character arc was him trying to forgive himself. But no they had to ruin it by saying he was completely innocent and did nothing wrong
I really wish the other games had an OST that's as vibrant as 4s. I feel like the rest definitely fit their games, but there's only a standout track here or there instead of a whole cohesive OST that's constantly blowing you away. Yakuza 4s Jazzy music constantly caught me by surprise and really made me pay attention even in the moments that my brain usually went into autopilot like the "Go to PLACE NAME" objectives.
Huh.. that jazzy thing drives me crazy, makes headaches, and I hope 5 has another soundtrack entirely.
It was my first game, but to date I don't think a yakuza game has had a better soundtrack than 0s (haven't played 7 yet). They took all the best tracks from various games and put them together.
Judgment was a close second for me, but I also really enjoyed judgment so I'm biased. I agree that I like a lot of 4's sort of "free-roaming" or story beat tracks more than other entries. But 0 just had all the best kickass fight themes. 4 has infinite handcuff and smile venomously though.
People love Akiyama so damn much, he really needs his own game. And maybe throw Tanimura in there, his fighting style was unique.
So basically Yakuza 4 would be a 10 if:
A. More Akiyama
B. No Yasuko

I got hit by a truck going to 3, but Akiyama redeemed my desire to play the older games. I almost try rushing 5 just so I can get to his segments.
Yakuza 4 opening with Akiyama was the smartest decision ever made in history
I was blinded by the light of mixed boi Tanimura, guilty-ridden Saejima, and the blinding light of Akiyama. I really like Y4's story, once it went nanomachines stupid I was too invested to care about the leaps in logic at the end. I also loved that it tried to say something about post WW2 Japan. I'm a sucker for that which Yakuza 6 attempts again to a slightly further degree.
OK I laughed so hard at this. Yes I'm one of those starry eyed Akiyama fans. Admitting it and seeing myself called out in a video is half the battle right ? Sorry, this chick loves Akiyama. Seriously tho this was fantastic.

I fucking hate Saejima’s first chapter in the prison. It’s so difficult and tedious since you have zero experience with his slow, lumbering fighting style, yet are expected to fight through a gauntlet of overly-aggressive prison guards and Saito just pounding on you repeatedly

I guess we all agree that Akiyama was the best thing that happened in Yakuza4 (actually, my very first game of the series), so despite the meh story, is still my first love and still love the game so much... precisely for the last point: SHUN AKIYAMA.
And I don't know you guys, but Akiyama deserved more respect in Y6 and all fucking tits should have been in YLAD, probably taking exactly the same role of Nick Ogata (though Akiyama surpasses him in every fucking note).
Bottomline: we deserve a better game with a playable Akiyama.☝

I feel like this really is a testament to how great Akiyama is that Saejima's dead sister looks better just by being near him.

they should have let kiryu have his komaki abilities like his parry and tiger drop he uses it when fighting saejima but u need to unlock it after? and pretty much all of these characters are used to kamurocho so a lot of the moves should have been unlocked from the start
Also, im so confused on why kiryu's finale boss is Daigo, boy only wanted some neutral grounds money to make the Tojo great again, clan that kiryu deliberately and selfishly said "nah, not feeling like it"

Facts! I like Masuda’s Tanimura a lot more than Narimiya’s, because not only he sounds great, but he just clicks for me. But also, Toshiki Masuda voices Eijiro from My Hero Academia so any Eijiro fans might notice it?? I don’t know it’s just me.

I'm playing through the yakuza series for the first time rn (beat 4 remastered this week, currently playing 5 remastered ((no spoilers please))) and two things I don't understand currently is why Akiyama wasn't the protagonist from 7 onwards. He has ties to the yakuza world without being completely involved in it, so it won't be a stretch for him to get involved in more Yakuza situations and the second thing is why didn't they continue having the yakuza series be real time action and if they wanted a turn based game, then make the spin off turn based games. It's almost like if all main line pokemon games from here on out adapted Spectrobes game play. The franchise is associated with a certain kind of game play, why change it?
Litearally i played the most of yakuza 4 (Out of the remastered games) because i completed every sidequest with akiyama and no-one else
I'm now playing Yakuza 5 which I find amazing but goddamn 4 was really weak, I basically rushed through it to get to 5.
Understandable but at least 4 gave us Akiyama so it gets 100 bonus points

To be fair when Yasuko fired a revolver on Katsuragi's head the animation gives out the good detail that the chamber is firing it the correct way.
What makes me mad about Akiyama isn’t just the fact they said fuck him in yakuza 6, but he’s not even mentioned in Like a Dragon. Glad I’m not the the only person who likes the character though.
Him not being in Like a Dragon was due to talks falling through with the VA and RGG. Still could have mentioned him but I guess they didn't want to stir that up.

y3/4 are pretty much yin and yang, 4 had a messy story but great gameplay 3 had a great story and shit gameplay.

@@SnowiestAngeman 3 no matter what you play on (besides easy) the block rate ruins one of the core gameplay loop of it. while the story (for me at least) had me emotional escapially the beginning where kiryu was being a great dad. 4 the story is meh like with tanimura/kiryu, to just bad thanks to certain events aka saijma and the rubber bullet. but the gameplay made up for it since each character was fun to play some more then other. i do hope after lost judgement 3 and 4 get the kiwami treatment
Story was great and weird, my only rant is tanimuras fighting style it was the worst had to complete that part quickly. Saejima, akiyama and kiryu had good styles.
Tanimura did kinda suck but at least you can spam good heat moves with him

At least his rush combos were better than Shinada's in Y5. Shinada is fine when he can use weapons but is a major drag during the Coliseum.
Nah man saejimas fighting style was so slow and week it legit punch punch hold button it was so slow and dragged on i was glad to play tanimura because it felt more real and fast paced

Tbh. I've seen what happened with Yasuko and one thing for certain. She's trying to find her Brother Taiga kinda Similarly (Ican'tspell) to how Makoto tries to find her Brother Tachibana. AlsoachadjustlikeAkiyama.
But Instead it's the other way around. Instead of Tachibana dying it would be like Makoto dying like if she got shot by Lao Gui before Meeting or when she meets Tachibana. Yeah there's some similarities. It's only that Yasuko is trying to get her Brother outta Jail any means Possible. But just so you know. Makoto would have also become a Murderer if Dojima accepted the Lieutenant's heads. Just remember that. Gotta say though. Yasuko could have tried to take a Loan from someone before Murdering anyone.
