People say don't wear it because it's way too common from back in the day, but here's the thing, if you're like mid 20s early 30s, the women today were kids when this was in it's prime, so they're not gonna remember it as much as adult women did back in the day. Plus it's gonna subconsciously remind these younger women of father or authority figures that were around them growing up - which means they're gonna inadvertently apply those traits of dominance and security onto you. Which isn't a bad thing. Just sayin'....

This was signature scent from the time it was released until very recently. I received it as a gift in 1996 when I was 11 years old. Every time I finished a bottle, I couldn't make up my mind as to what to buy next, so I kept asking my mom to buy me another bottle of ADG. Now, 24 years later, my go-to scent is ADG Profumo if I don't know what else to wear.

I easily went through multiple bottles throughout the years. It was my first signature scent back in the year and when it first came out it was life at first sniff. As a young 12 year old back then in 96 there was 3 scents that I rotated with Acqua Di Giò, Versace Blue Jean's and Tommy but later on I used to throw on Iceberg also along with CK One. I reckon I brought at least 15 bottles of Acqua Di Giò over the years last bottle being 2006, 50ml was not enough.

When I asked what they were wearing they said Dolce & Gabbana. I asked which one? They said Light Blue. I never had light blue, so I was kind of surprised by how I was reminded of my old "signature scent".

It's no longer the same fragrance, so its not really fair to review it these days. The latest formulations are terrible, very watered down with poor longevity. But they still charge $80-125 for a bottle. A better fragrance easily is the Profumo version, or Essenza, IF you can find that one. A much better value is Perry Ellis 360 Red. Much better performance, a more deeper scent with added pepper and spice notes, and its super cheap. You can buy 4-5 bottles of 360 Red for the price of one bottle of Acqua di Gio.

Totally agree. Just picked up a bottle at Macy's and it's not the same as the original one. It doesn't even last as half as the original one. I think they are cutting down oils to save money and yes they sell for way more to make more profits. I can still remember the original one back in 1998 when I first got the bottle. It has the Italian smell. Man it would last for ages and crazy projection. Closest thing to it is Profumo. Gotta try that Perry Ellis.

My personal story...I was pretty heavily into fragrances from the mid-'80s to mid-'90s collecting just about all the new releases. Then I almost completely left the game until last year. Yeah, tons of fragrances came out after I left paying attention to other things, and you know what? There are some unexpected and unplanned benefits from that, like, just about every fragrance was new to me when I started to catch up with the last (and lost) decade and a half from last year. Yes, even this OG Acqua di Gio is still something fresh and new to me just like it's a new release.

On the real, despite barely wearing it these days, I still manage to get unsolicited compliments with this. Hey Ash, I know that this scent is considered “the best selling fragrance of all time”, but really? Armani sold more units of this fragrance than Old Spice? Old Spice has a 60 year head start over Aqua Di Gio and it must’ve dominated the men’s grooming market until sometime in the 60s when scents like Brut and Hi-Karate were released. Old Spice was still a big scented aftershave well into the 80s, and Proctor & Gamble must’ve moved a ton of units after their “I’m on a horse” Super Bowl commercial sometime after the year 2000. Anyway, this title is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. Great channel.

My OG go to scent. I bought more (and received this as a gift) more than any other fragrance ever. Like you, I worked in the mall (me in the mid to late 90’s) and after 96, this stuff was everywhere. As I’ve said before, I worked at JC Penney in the mall, in the jewelry dept, right next to the fragrances. I saved a lot of cash by utilizing their ADG testers whenever I worked lol. A lot of memories from working there, but the main aspect of it is I became interested in fragrances because of that job. Great review as always Ash. 💪👍🍻

I'm really enjoying your in depth reviews but the cuts in between every every few words are making it pretty tough to watch through to the end. There's nothing wrong with just natural flowing sentences otherwise it becomes very robotic. Ch--o--pp--y if ya ---know ----what I ----mean.

An undeniable classic. I owned this when it first came out. I can still recognise it on people when out and about. It might be old but you still get people wearing it. I received it as a gift a year or two ago and have been reluctant to wear it because of its age. I'm not sure that I'm a fan of signature scents - I get bored easily over time and prefer to keep mixing things up and trying new ones.

Essenza IS the best of the line! As soon I caught rumours of being discontinued I purchased 4 180ml backup bottles. So many compliments I’ve received wearing this over the years. 👍🏾

Essenza was really what Acqua di Gio was in the 90s! And the normal ADG is what it is now... water.... :((

He said it in at the end and also in previous video that the profondo is the best of the line.
For me profondo is more depth and modern. Still have the same vibe, I find it blue and green and aquatic. I like it a lot even if I am not a fan of the Gio line.

i think guerlain can beat that ,if not already beat it.back in the older days ppl were not doing so much research/statistics so we can't know for sure but i think Guerlain had 2 perfumes that could or did beat AdG.still, yes,Aqua di Gio was a huge hit.

Everyone throws out that it’s the best selling men’s fragrance of all time because I believe Jeremy Fragrance was the first person to start saying it… But what is your source? Nothing shows up in a search engine

It's like a time travel for me. O had this fragrance in 1997. The only problem with that was the sprayer. He dosen't work very well so this f**cked me up and i never gave this fragrance another Chance.
Fail. It's one of the best fragrances of all time.

I think performance is down to wear, if you spray it every day on clothes and liberal spraying on point, it will last clothes, and on you, thus giving the impression of longevity, maybe?, Anyway, still love it, now it's cool to be ironic, it's probably best to go back to these original style, like fashions come and go, it needs to come back and inspire a whole new generation.

Late to the conversation but have you considered doing a themed review/shoot-out of similar themed or style of fragrances?
In this case, AquaDiGio vs L'eau D'issey vs Ckone vs CoolWater vs Tommy vs Paco vs Aqua Quorum.
It'd be the most 90s video ever.
