At first glance, that seems plausible. But does the story even offer enough content for more than one season? It's not like "orange is the new black" where you can basically drag out the original story endlessly.

Don't take autonomy away from the parents. It is first and foremost their fault for choosing drugs over their children. She ratted out someone to get an early release for a three year bid of what looks like a very confortable prison accommodations. Why? Why would she do that? She should have been around long enough that doing something so stupid for little to no gain would only bring her to a violent early grave.

Its really sad that her son had to lose both of his parents. Wherever he is, I hope the people that are raising him are able to break the cycle with his parents and prevent him from seeking to repeat their mistakes.

I think we are all just so comfortable in our existence that it’s hard to image cultures like this existing in general.
