    Another great video, Nick!! Moving from the 1/2 ton to the 3/4 gave me so much more confidence with the larger brakes, exhaust brake and just that extra 2k lbs of truck weight helps control the trailer better. The trade-off is that softer 1/2 ton ride missing with my Ram 2500 Cummins, but worth it to me when towing.

    I became a diesel head when I was racing motocross in early 2000s. I had a 1500 z71 and my step dad had just got a 2001 LB7 and when I would pull my inclosed trailer to a track in KY and my half ton would use 3/4 of a tank round trip and when I got to use the LB7 totally stock it would only use 1/4 tank of fuel and from that point on I have only owned diesel trucks. Now I just need to get my 16 LML tuned by Nick lol

    I went from a 1990 Chevrolet 454 dually to a 2006 GMC dually with a Duramax. I’ll never have another gas truck that I tow with regularly, it’s a night and day difference towing. No more foot to the floor trying pull a hill, and no more 4mpg towing. I’d only go back to gas if diesel was significantly higher priced than gas, or I stopped towing every other weekend with my Jeep and camper. And love your guy’s tunes on my LBZ, best upgrade I’ve made to the truck. Keep up the good work on the videos/podcasts guys!

    I know people love to talk about mpg differences but rarely talk about total costs of maintenance. In my area, diesel is about 15% more in cost. So that needs to be factored. My gasser rarely needs a fuel filter change or any type of upgraded fuel system. Oil changes are a good bit cheaper. Any parts are significantly cheaper.

    Great one Nick 👌👍, l have an LBZ WITH 6-speed Alison in my Yukon,love, love the? Well everything about the 2500 series trucks, comfy ride, ease of handling and the power ! I have owned turbo gas cars, even twin turbo gas car , lots of power when empty! Poor gas mileage all the time. Love your show and knowledge, please keep the info coming, even old stuff refined! My goal is more power, a 64 ? or 67 with a compound buddy, a 488? or larger, I'm after power and reliability, something that is so possible with the diesel platform.
    Thanks again Nick.✌🏻😛

    I’m really surprised that the Titan XD with the 5.0 Cummins wasn’t more popular. I kept hearing people talk about how they were to expensive and that you could find a gas 2500 for the same price. What they didn’t say was it was an XD Platinum Reserve vs a close to base model gas 2500. I bought a new 17 XD SV 4x4 5.0 Cummins in January 2018. $36.6k.

    • @oinchadoomandwolfboy
      @oinchadoomandwolfboy Před 2 lety

      @Steven Seagull should watch the video of it vs the 16 model F250 ford Powerstroke. The XD squatted less. Legally you can’t tow more, but as someone’s who’s towed 15k and 3500lbs in the bed of the truck, I can sit here and tell you it can do it, and do it without looking ridiculous. I’ve seen 1/2 ton guys saying their trucks can pull no problem, but you see them squatted to the ground. The XD doesn’t do that, and can actually stop with their 3/4 ton brakes.

      If we were to test a turbo gas half ton it would probably be the 3.5 L ecoboost. It’s the platform that we have the most experience with tuning in the gas world. I suspect a tuned eco-boost could hold its own against a stockish LB7 or LLY towing so long as you don’t need the stability of a 3/4 ton truck. They get thirsty towing too , though.

    @hollywd269 Před 3 lety +1

    This is a great video and a great breakdown on how diesel vs gas differs , however I don't think your comparing apples to apples in this video , it's hard to compare 2 vehicles in a different class rating as far as a diesel to gas. I mean you have a 1/2 ton gas engine and comparing it to a 3/4 ton diesel truck. In all fairness you should've used a 3/4 ton gas truck with the 6.0 or the 8.1 to compare with pulling the same weight. And in my opinion diesel isn't necessary unless your pulling heavy all the time. If your only pulling a trailer a few times a year save your money and stick to gas.

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  Před 3 lety +1

      Totally agree with you Christian, it’s not an apples to apples comparison. I think I acknowledged that fairly early in the video.

    It would be cool to have an 07 8.1 vs LBZ, both with 6 speed Allison’s.

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  Před 3 lety

      It would be cool, unfortunately very few 6 speed 8.1’s exist in the wild. We were really trying to hit a broader audience with this one. Shooting for guys thinking of buying up from a gas half ton. The big cubic inch gas trucks are a bit of a different breed.

    • @TermiteBenny
      @TermiteBenny Před 3 lety

      On a side note all of our work trucks that only carry fuel tanks and tools but never tow are gas motors. Less expensive to operate and get decent fuel mileage. All the trucks that tow equipment are Diesels.

    @artkreutzer5404 Před 3 lety

    curious, you have the diesel tuned. did the gas truck have one of your gas tunes in it? if not do you think it would help the gas truck with the shifting and torque? i completely understand that it's never going to be a diesel. i have similar truck as the gas. i tow a 7x12 cargo trailer 2-3 times a year up north. thinking about getting smaller travel trailer. (under 6000lbs total) id love to see comparisons between stock and tuned gas 5.3.

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  Před 3 lety

      For the sake of the test I had the LB7 switched down to one of the tow tunes. It probably had the power potential of a stock L5P in the video. Certainly a tune on the gas truck will help the situation (especially an ecoboost or similar turbo platform) but for the sake of this comparison tuning the 5.3L N/A is not going to significantly change the results.

    @ 1:56 Diesel is in "tow/haul mode" and stays in tow/haul mode on. When the 5.3L gas stays close to the same RPM in "tow/haul mode" you turn off "tow/haul mode" (@10:45 ), to purposely make the RPM way higher and show the "dramatic difference". How is that "apples to apples " when Diesel is running "tow/haul mode on, and gasoline is running "tow/haul mode" off??
