Thank you for the videos. I got a flex shaft after I made a few Christmas gifts using the Dremel. I couldn't make anything without it. I've been watching videos to make my carving better so thank you for the resource.
That is awesome to hear! So glad that you are getting a lot from it!
I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. czcams.com/users/postUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.
Just started watching your work and you're doing a great job with your tutorials. As a beginner, I'm understanding and learning a lot from you.
So glad to hear that Laura! Happy to have you around
Thank you Matt for these awesome videos! I just started power carving yesterday and so far your videos have been teaching me a lot!
Man had mine sitting for years never used it. I feel confident now to try. Thanks so much. Learned a lot!
Really appreciate you taking time to teach others how to carve out designs in wood. I found your videos searching on to use my Dremer tool my wife bought me for Christmas. I am retired and started do small projects for my family. Once again thank you.
Hey Michael! I am glad you are finding the videos helpful!
This video made more sense to me than the others. I got a rotary tool set for Christmas and I'm just learning. I planned on just any plain letters to feeling like I got a pretty good start at learning something nicer. Thanks for posting.
Right on! Glad to hear this video helped you!
Same, got a rotary tool and flex shaft as a gift and have been working to get comfortable with it. Thanks for making this video. Looking forward to checking out some of your other ones.
Thankyou! You're the only one that explains the little details that make things harder if you dont know.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
As a beginner I appreciate videos which are quick and simple. This taught me a specific set of techniques for positive and negative carving. Thanks for the explanation.
Glad you enjoyed it, Tom! I look forward to seeing you around sir!
!!!! INVEST IN YOURSELF !!!!
Just finished watching this video.
I Love how enthusiastic you are about the art you do. I'm a beginner. And have been watching your videos on power carving stenciling pro burning. The negative & positive 3D effect. Wow. I can't wait to get started.
I'm getting a dremel today to do my dollhouse, your videos are awesome. I watched 2 so far and I have better understanding how to do this. I love lettering so I'm hoping I can be successful at this.
Glad I could help!
Nice tutorial Cornelius. Thank you for taking the trouble to share your skills with us.
Working on a Pinewood Derby racer with my 10 y.o. granddaughgter. This video it has helped and it as inspired her to carve the car before painting it. Thanks.
Glad to hear that!
Going back to rewatch your letter carving videos. I have 5 orders for signs. I had a method but I like your method!!! Thanks for the video!!
Haha right on! Glad the video is helping!
Thanks so much. I just bought a rotary tools and it should arrive today. I want to make little signs for my girls' rooms and a sign for valentine's day for my wife. This was a great tutorial. I hope I have steady hands and don't ruin them...
Thanks for the tips, appreciate you taking the time to explain the basics to us newbs.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have a handful of woodworking projects on the go and I have always wondered about carving instead of burning. Still a newbie to woodworking, but this tutorial helps out a LOT! I'm thinking about making a few beer steins out of wood and will look at carving the recipient's name into the mug.
Thanks!!
great video dude. am a total beginner to this art and your video was extremely helpful.
Awesome, thank you!
Newbie carver here! This is so helpful! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very useful video, I have just bought a rotorary tool and will follow your advice.
Yes! Thank you so much! This really really did help me so much, I'm glad I watched this before I started with the brand new really coarse burrs I just got
Man! Great videos. I am working on my 1968 Bertram Bahia Mar 20 classic offshore fishing boat, and I just carved the Bertram eagle logo into the starboard wooden seat back I had built. Now I am carving the boat's name, Chirmorie, into the port side seat back. I am using the Dungeon celtic font and drew it on freehand. It's coming out fantastically. I wish I could post a picture here to show you because I'm stoked, and you helped me do this, so Thank You!
So glad you are enjoying the videos. Oh wow that sounds amazing! Send me a picture at matt@howtowoodcarve.com
I love how you share your knowledge about this tool. I'm about to get started with my 1st little letter carving. I'm getting my inspiration from your video. Thank you for this.
I make the Chicago flags out of wood but I have a lot of clients that want the carving of the Chicago skyline. Glad I taped on to your video.
Right on! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video, well presented and clear. A BIG tip, print your design in a lighter colour and you will CLEARLY see your pen marks when transferring to the wood 🤟🤟🤟
Bro, I've been watching your videos since I bought my Dremer. You're really helpful and I learn a lot from you! Thank you a lot for your services!!!!
Awesome to hear my friend!!!! Thank you
your instructions for us newbies is awesome. I appreciate you and your talents.
Thank you Mary! Glad you are enjoying them!
Thanks for teaching at a slow but detailed pace. I’m a visual crafter.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I am currently working on power carving scroll work into a wooden gun stock of an old Springfield .22 rifle. First time doing something quite like this and it's coming along great.
Right on man!
Really enjoyed it 😊. New tricks even my dad didn't teach me! Will be watching for more.
I love graffiti. It is where I got started in my art. I now do all forms of art. I always wanted to carv graffiti into wood. Well, I finally got a basic dermal kit. I did some really kool pieces. I used all the wrong tips only to find out I was using the wrong ones. I did awesome pieces.i never thought about CZcams. After watching videos I can only imagine the work I could of done. My biggest struggle is fine lines. I did shaggy from scooby doo. His face got destroyed. I ended up scrapping that project. Now the scooby I did was on point. I was excited to try new things. Frustrated at the fine lines lacking in my details. I had no idea the tips you can use. Let's say I love to creat and will never stop. I have tackled so many forms of art. Tools of trait are my only weakness stopping me from doing great work. But with mediocre tools I feel I do a good job. I will always find a tool of some sort to use on a project. Always knowing I can do better. Then I find out there are tools that allow me to do that. I look forward to doing art with wood. It's fun and takes time.
I got a rotary tool for Christmas. This video is gonna help me. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
omg you said everything in a way i can understand. I so want to try this! and i will let you know how i did. thank you!!!
So glad you got something from it!
Thanks for showing step by step process. I have a Dremel and want to carve a large crown board for above my 100 year old gypsy caravan (as they are impossible to buy). I was nervous about starting but now I have a pencil template I will practice on some spare wood then give it a go!
That sounds like a fantastic project Sue!
I am so glad I found your tutorial it really helped me understand what I am about to do with my new kit
A brief discussion of bit/burr selection would be very helpful for basic information.
Great tip, thank you
Thank you ! I'm working on traditional Northern New Mexico retablos. I incise the outline by hand with an incising tool but I just bought a Dremel tool so that I can begin doing relief carving on my work. I paint on a pine board that is coated with rabbit skin glue gesso, incised, then painted with egg tempera paint. I will now be first: doing the relief carving on the bare wood, then coating with gesso...etc. Your lesson was very helpful to me.
That sounds awesome! Would love to see the finished product!
I like how you explain stuff
Glad you enjoyed it!
Appreciate what you have gave us because I'm about to start my own woodwork and that is what I'm going to do for a job on Van life so thank you for breaking it down to us

Hey Bro Grizzle! Thank you man! I appreciate the encouraging words! I look forward to seeing you around here.
I am learning so much from you and I thank you for taking the time to teach. Only, the problem I’m having is what kinds of tips are you using for the certain jobs you doing, like for straight lines, what kind of tip are you using?
Im happy to hear you are enjoying the content! I have many updated videos since this one :) for starts use the Inverted Cone burr from Lasco burrs and any round head carbide burr. Hope this helps!

As a beginner for woodwork, I love this tutorial! Very detailed and precise. I'm thinking of making a pet memorial where I need to use the negative method (carving downward into the wood), and I wonder if you could make a video showing how to make one with detailed instructions. I would really appreciate it! :)

I finished my first real project yesterday. It turned out incredible! I did a 3D Tweety Bird using positive/ negative space for my daughter. Your tips in your vids helped a lot. Thank you. I'm now working on a viking axe. It's a lot of fun, and really rewarding. Need to get myself some better bits, but I'm doing pretty good with what I have.

Thank you man!
I love this vid! Learned a lot and i pick negative over positive especially things like this
Glad to hear that! Yes, positive relief carving is always cooler!
Cornelius Creations Do you think HOLIFE ROTARY TOOL will be able to carve thru oak wood?
Great job on this vid. Just getting started on Dremel carving ☘️🇨🇦✌️
Matt, I have commented on many of your videos that I love your videos and what a great teacher you are. I I've only found 1 other guy that comes close, Tim vandersluis. But neither one of you have made the most important video or touch the subject while your doing the video I'm watching now. And that's how to fix mistakes. In this video you say something about not going to deep. What can you do if that happens? Or if bit gets away from you? I so appreciate the time you don't have to spend doing this but if you could touch this subject it would be great to see thanks
I will add this to my list :)
One way to fix this mistakes is to mix some fine sawdust from the wood you're using with a little wood glue and rub in the marks, another way if it gets away from ya and makes a mark across the wood is to get a hot iron good and hot, but not enough to burn the wood, put a little water on the marks then rub the iron over it and after it dries just hit it with some mid grade sandpaper, it will swell the surface back out evenly of the marks aren't too awful deep
Thanks for this video. Grettings from Germany
Hey there! Happy to have you watch the videos!
Thanks for the video I'm looking at sand-casting a coin for a wedding and I think I might need to engrave so this helped me figure out techniques to use.
Right on man!
Wish you would do a real closeup of each of the burrs you use as you use them. I'm learning so much on these!
Great idea!
Nice video tutorial as usual Cornelius. What kind of cone burr are you using? Tungsten Carbide?
I have a small tip, if you cut out a large area and want the bottom of the cut to be perfectly flat, you can use a Dremel plunge router attachment. Just set it to the right depth and cut away real slowly.
Good on ya bro....thanks...….bought a Dremel a week ago :) :)
Right on!
Thank you for sharing I always enjoy your videos and explanations.
Thank you for the kind words!
