this is how you cover a song. nutshell is a masterpiece and you did it justice.
That guitar sounds unbelievable
Looks like the PRS SE T40E, beautiful guitar
If this song doesn’t hit you harder as you get older, you’re listening to the music and not the words of the song. This gentleman did this great song justice!
The music is for your heart, but the lyrics are for your soul
AMAZINGLY WELL DONE RENDITION SIR I AM HUMMBALED BY YOUR WORK MY GOOD MAN
It does hit harder the older I get but I think for me it’s because you can hear the pain and despair in the lyrics and realize that Layne Staley and so many other musicians lived it. He was alone and lonely when he passed and was alone and lonely for two weeks before he was even found. It’s just sad. This is an excellent cover.
This comment right here, you nail it right on the head
One of the most emotional songs ever. This was laynes battle with addiction that ultimately killed him and he knew it was going to.
I like how you’re not trying to do a bad Layne Staley impression and just did this as yourself, while also trying to keep it in a similar spirit as the original. Thank you! Respect!
Layne’s song, that defines him, is “Down in a hole” very specifically, unplugged! (In my opinion) but it hurts! 💔
Whats interesting is Jerry wrote down in a hole about his ex gf… almost didnt bring it to the band because it was a lot slower than the stuff they were doing at the time.
Band loved it though and now everyone associates the lyrics with laynes struggles even though jerry wrote the lyrics
he may not have been trying to impersonate but gd i could hardly differentiate between the two. awesome cover.
Layne and AIC should be in the hall of fame. They should've won Grammy awards. We should've had a major motion picture, Layne Staley bio pic. RIP Layne, what a vocalist/soul singer/songwriter. Never forgotten.
This was a respectful, quality cover. 👏
They dont need the hall of shame, they are good the way they are. That hall of washed out rockers is over rated anyways. AIC is its own thing. No one sounds like them and never will.
Damb fine job, Larry, extraordinary guitar 🎸 pickin, may Lane Rest In rock n roll paradise...
Layne Staley was a tortured soul, with a voice like no other.
For those of you who don't know, Alice In Chains did this song. Absolute GENIUS song and absolute fantastic cover.
I knew the second I heard the chords, one of my favs and an amazing cover!!
Idk if I wanna live in a world where we have to explain who Layne Staley was. Damn
❤
@@commanderzeboexactly lol
O really
Best cover of this song hands down. Layne would be proud of this one.
This is excellent, but, I think Eric Church did this song more justice.
PLEASE get this on SPOTIFY ASAP!!!!!
Like PLEASE I’m DESPERATE
This cover needs to be on all the streaming platforms
I’m a music purist and this is the first cover of this song that hasn’t made me cringe. Finally someone did this song some solid justice and I’m not typically a country style fan. Well done
You know why he kills this...................................... He sings like Larry Fleet not Layne Staley and that's very hard, how powerful his voice is to this song.
God damn, as an AIC and Larry Fleet fan, that hit right on the heart...
That’s some heavy language. I hate reading that going down the comment. Not necessary
@varminttank Move along or stay out of the comments section then.
Nahhhh
@@varminttankwhat language 😂
@@varminttankJesus fuck
I’m very critical about this song it hit home hard well done my brother
Same and same
You can tell that this is a song that Lane Staley lived and wrote from deep within his soul. The depth is hauntingly beautiful and sad at the same time.
it's a cover of an Alice In Chains song. He sings it with conviction and it shows.
And the originator lives on. Awesome cover. 10 years sober. I was surrounded by people but no one understood the struggle. Pushed me to the depths but with god I fought through. Anyway reading this get up. You are the problem and the solution. The time is now to do something. You got this
It's not as easy for some tho.
@@markstelle9402 I understand and sympathize. But I know the struggle and it can be overcome. Stay with Jt
The biggest war we fight is the one in our minds, bro
You are the problem and solution. That’s cold af but so true man. 6 months sober. It’s not easy for anyone to overcome but the reality is just that, being the problem and the solution.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
By far the best cover of one of the most iconic songs ever.
The City and Colour version is pretty damn good too !
Can’t forget the Mark Lanegan MOPOP version
Aaron Lewis 👍
Been listening to AIC since a little boy, I’m 26 now. Been listening to Larry for a couple years. This took my heart. Tears.
Since 1992. I can't even right now. I want live and die cry and laugh at the same time. Can't due though
I've never heard of Larry Fleet, but I've been an AIC fan since 95. This is my favorite AIC song and one of my favorite songs in general. This really does it justice
Nutshell on album Alice In Chains “Jar of Flies”. There is no need to compare. Everything Larry Fleet does is his own. Poignant lyrics expressing deep dark sorrow, isolation standing strong. Not to be taken lightly. Beautiful guitar work. Thank you for this gem in a nutshell. Absolutely perfect.
❤ you are not alone 🍀❤️.
You need to write a book I'd read it
@cobbsfinest. The final chapter is being written as we speak. 🍀❤️. Andre & Stephanie Martins Fachada.
We are so sorry for your loss. ❤️🍀.
@@user-br2ec5jp7m I will look it up
You ever find a GREAT cover and play it 7 times back to back to back.......you KILLED this Brother!
Dude you could sing a soap commercial and it would go straight to # 1 !! Love it ♥️ !
Ok who the HELL is this dude? WOW. 😮. Easily one of the best covers of nutshell by FAR. Man. This dude may just convert me to country music. Holy shit 😮
I've heard MANY versions of this song. This guy does an excellent version of it. Good job brother.
Chills! I think Layne would have been proud of your cover. The emotion is there as it was in the original song. Congratulations 👏👏👏💯❤️
I’m a huge fan of Alice In Chains and I’m not a country fan but this cover is amazing!!!
❤
Hell no. I bet Layne comes back from the dead when he finds out a Country guy is covering this song.
Rip Layne Staley. We love and miss you always Layne.
What just happened here. I am gobsmacked. AIC is one of my favorite bands. Mr. Fleet, you absolutely slayed that song. Beautifully done. New fan!!!
We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight, yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home
My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find, yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can’t be my own
I feel better dead
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
This song brings me back to my childhood. This song reminds me of all my great friend's who have passed on.
With ya there, bud
Excellently covered, and made it his own. Love it!
Layne Staley will always have a voice that moves you and will always be a goat!
This song hits me deep in the soul. This is probably one of my favorite covers I've ever heard. 💜
Cold chills for sure amazing cover
WOW...as a life long Alice In Chains fan you nailed it! This is the first time finding your channel. Totally hit that subscribe button! This wasn't sung from your heart, it came from your soul.
No he didn’t. Wtf
🔥♥️😎🎵
@@dutchschaefer4983 It's this novel new thing where people can have a different opinion than you.
his Ooooos. are so spot on. they're amazing notes.
Absolutely amazing. The version done by Dallas Green (City and Colour) is another fantastic one.
Man, more people need to know Dallas Green’s name
Yes!
Upchurch did the best cover of this song in my opinion but this one is great too.
@@s.greene2452 Aaron Lewis by far the best cover of this song. Larry fleet 2nd best cover of this song
Just saw city and colour do this song live in September. What a show!!!!!!
The BEST AIC song!! Thank you so much for putting this out!!! RIP Layne!!!
This is a whole different take on a classic song. Great job Larry!! 👌
Thank you, Larry
On behalf of all AIC fans ❤
Alice In Chains is the best band to ever exist. RIP LS and MS
Many have attempted to cover this deep, amazing, relatable, classic AIC tune and ALL have failed..... You sir did your thing and killed it! Layne and all of AIC should be proud of their song making this much noise in Country Music! Hats off to Larry Fleet! Imma fan! NC!
Aaron Lewis did a great cover as well.
Billy strings kills it too.
Upchurch kills it too
Monicka hove and mixed up everything

So many covers get it wrong and I get it because the original is literally untouchable but I gotta say I really appreciate this take. It has the honesty of the original and that's what's usually missing
I grew up listening to Alice In Chains and to this day they are my favorite band, no one is better vocaly then Lane Staley, period 👌 But what you did right here Sir, it is absolutely amazing!!! Beautiful!!!
Beautiful cover by Larry Fleet. Probably the best cover of Nutshell that I’ve ever heard.
I dont comment on youtube, but holy shit, my brother. Truely impressive my. And no better song to showcase those pipes. You killed the guitar. I really enjoy how you are able to replicate that bass line. Iconic cover. 10/10
Nahhhhh it sux
😢 To be played at my funeral. Preferably by Alice In Chains but this is good for the folks who have never heard or don’t like the original version.
This song got me through drug addiction after the fact. Years later my ears have moved to country music. This brings me to so many places. I feel this now more than I did the original did then.
This is my all time favorite Alice in Chains song. That said, you did it justice with this cover. Cheers to you, Sir!
How is this not viral? This is incredible.
Layne, Cobain & Cantrell were by far the most gifted musicians of the 90s.
I was very, very young when these songs were recorded, but I remember hearing them growing up and there are no other songs that have more meaning than what these guys wrote
Those two cameramen were synced up.
The performance was flawless and authentic.
Award worthy!
Absolutely love Alice in chains, and Layne did a phenomenal job on this song, but this guy here, dammnnnnnnnn!
Miss you, Layne. Thank you for saving my life.
My man played the hell out of this song. Somewhere Layne is smiling seeing that his music made such a huge impact on people and that it still lives on.
You nailed it. I would have never thought id hear a cover of that song come so close to perfection. This is on my playlist for sure. Glad it was in my recommended.
What an amazing voice! I love how modern country is finally spreading out into more complicated lyric ideas and darker vibes. There has to be so much more than pop anything. You got a new fan Larry with this cover.
Don't know who this guy is, but I love this song so much - so happy to hear someone covering it
God works through this man. No other cover has come close. There’s a reason.
This version is hugging my soul 💗
Love how he did the bass part on the guitar
This is incredible. Deserves all the views. What's wrong with this world.
Best cover I've ever heard.
My sister listened to this song before she was put into a mental hospital after having a psychotic break and almost killing herself and her daughter. Whenever I listen to this song I wonder how much pain she could’ve been in to harm her own daughter. It’s broken up so much of the family and nothing will ever be the same. I can never see her the same again. I grew up with her and she always had my back. She took my punishments when I got in trouble and always let me come to her when I was down. Now I’ll never be able to see her at home again.
@Larry Fleet, PLEASE release this 🙏. AMAZING rendition of an amazing song!!
Why is this not on Apple Music!!! I’d listen every day lol such a great cover. Great work
I can almost feel the strings vibrating on my arms, absolutely fantastic
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! One of my favorite songs of all time. Thank you for recreating this classic and keeping Lane Staley and Alice In Chains' music alive!!!
Mad props to Larry Fleet for doing this song some justice. His version is great.
Goosebumps!!!! Good job Larry
I'm a "grunge" guy and didn't realize how well a country singer could do it
Bro. YOU NAILED THIS!!!!! I’m beyond impressed
The definition of raw
Larry did the damn thing with his cover.
I got one thing to say my man Larry just killed this 🎵🎵🎵 if this ain't badass then y'all don't know what good 🎼🎶🇺🇸 music is keep doing your thang ❤ 🤘 skin I'm going to keep listening
This is the greatest cover of any musician covering any song ever. Well done mate. Well fucking done.
very dramatic but I can't say you're wrong lol. he's gonna be right up the road from me in Raleigh next week but I gotta work
I listened TO AIC in my youth, this is hard to hear! Great job Larry!
To take a song like this, originally done by one absolute incredible singer, and not only make it your own but knock it outta the park! Love this!
As a long time Alice in chain fan. I thought this was heartfelt when Lane done it on unplugged. But this is a twist leave it to a such talented person to pull this off. Thanks Larry
Never heard of this guy but it's a really good cover. Well done dude.
Was gonna say it has an Alice in chains vibe ! Love y'all!! Make country music great again!!
You have an incredible voice! That Gee Tar playing is so good! Amazing cover sir.
Fantastic cover, wish more country artists would take these risks. Plenty of 90s bands to choose from, a pool of true emotions...bridge the gap
One of, if not the best cover I’ve ever heard of this song
One of if not the best pure cover of any song hands down. The older I get the harder this song hits.
This needs to be released!!! @larryfleet
Beautiful!! Layne would be very proud !!
You did a jam up job on this one Larry
This is an incredibly beautiful cover 👌🖤💪🤘
This ol boy has some pipes on him...dope ass cover
My eyes are sweating man 😭 Damn Larry 🤦🏽♂️
Excellent rendition
Probably the greatest song ever written if you understand the context. Larry killed this. On repeat for the unforeseeable future
Nice!!! Love this version of this Alice in Chains song!!! Larry Fleet has quite a voice range! Great Job Larry!
Larry Fleet,i was the type that only played rock when i was younger as i progressed through the years, the acoustic seem to ring out with country,i first heard you when you sang where i find god,now im even more of a fan,you did this song good, mad respct
Great interpretation of AIC’s masterpiece. 👏🏽
WOW my man is insane! Everything he sings is amazing!
Incredible 😢
La canzone più bella del mondo 🌍 Rip Layne
I like Larry. This was an incredible cover.
Wayne Staley just smiled.. 🔥
If you haven't seen Fleet in concert, go! He is incredible. An Alice in Chains cover?! Incredible!
