  • One of my favourite things about Total War games in general is that there is an absolutely massive super passionate modding community consistently reinventing how we experience and enjoy these games.
    The other day my good friend the Medjay of Faiyoum covered one such Total War mod that I’ll be running through with you today: The Attila mod Age of Justinian 555 AD.
    Medjay by the way is a fantastic content creator on CZcams who has such a positive character and makes brilliant Total War videos from ambience to mod spotlights. So do me a favour and definitely check him out. I’ve linked his channel below.
    So in this video we’re going to take a look at Age of Justinian, a Total War mod that totally converts Attila Total War into 555 AD and gives the player a huge variety of factions to try out, hundreds of new units to recruit and battle and fantastic gameplay to enjoy. It’s honestly one of my favourite mods for Attila and that’s saying a lot guys so hopefully by the end of this spotlight you get in there and check it out as well!
    Hope you enjoyed this video guys and if you did give it a like and drop any thoughts or questions in the comments section below. Subscribe for more total war content, gameplay and news and thanks for watching guys!

    Attilas lack of India (at least its northern part) is sepcially sad on cases like this. This timespan corresponds with the fall of the Later Guptas and the collapse of classical India which would fit the themes of the game perfectly.

    • @umayyadball4126
      @umayyadball4126 Před 2 lety +15

      Absolutely agreed. The only reason games like Crusader Kings 3 look enticing to me is because they offer more of North and some Central Africa, more Central Asia, India, and even areas like Myanmar/ Burma at the map's edge. This is especially big for me as I like playing these Arab, Indian, etc. factions above all others. I know the monetary value isn't there, but a TW game set in India with Attila's engine would be the absolute coolest thing ever!

    I'm glad you covered this. This is one of my favorite Historical overhaul mods in the TW series. We get unique factions that vanilla and other mods (to my knowledge) do not have because of the starting date. Factions like the Gokturk Khaganate in the steppe, the Kingdom of Moors & Romans in the Maghreb, A 'Roman holdout' city of Cordoba, The Romano-Briitanni remains in the British Isles, Axumite general controlled Himyarite Kingdom in south Arabia and so on. It will get juicier with each update!

    I tried firing up some R2 DEI today and started a a campaign and just felt like I didn't want to play. I have thousands of hours in TW games, almost all modded. At this point I NEED in depth campaign mechanics and choices. Fancy unit on the battle map don't do it for me anymore. I wish CA would do what so many of us yearn for, a cross between TW and grand strategy titles. It will never happen because it requires too much thought and effort on the part of the player and much of the TW player base is super casual at this point. I guess maybe my time being a TW player has come to an end; it feels sad I have been playing these games for 20 yrs!

    I wouldn't call myself a Romanophile(nothing to do with my profile pic haha) but i don't believe Justinian "lost" the gothic wars, they were just waaaaay harsher than Constantinople expected, probabaly due to believing it would be a North Africa 2.0. And the romans were very unlucky in suffering a Lombard invation pretty much the moment Italy was fully pacified.

    Yet another awesome mod review! Thanks so much Term! If I may, I do have couple of general "modding" questions as I am still pretty new to this world of mods. First of all, when I subscribe and then download a mod from the Steam Workshop, will the mod automatically update on my computer via Steam when the moders add new content to the mod OR do I have to search for and download the newer version of the mod from Steam. Second, if I use a mod that changes the base game, say reskins all the units, if I play a DLC for the base game will the units in the DLC also be reskinned or remain as in the vanilla version? Thanks in advance for answering these two questions, Terminator. I really appreciate your time, being the busy person you are doing all these excellent mod reviews. :)

    • @TheTerminatorGaming
      @TheTerminatorGaming  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! And no worries at all I’m happy to help :)
      1. A mod will either automatically update OR the modder will upload an additional mod/submod that you have to subscribe to as well (though this generally doesnt happen as much)
      2. Reskin mods usually specify which campaign they’re for so check the mod description. If its for GC only for example it will state that in which case the DLCs will stay the same

    Covered it much better than I did, but I try and be inspired from you :)
    I saw this on my feed and already I was smiling - more historical mods need attention like this and the more attention we give to these mods, the better it is for them - it's to remind the historical total war community that while we might wait for historical total war (Funny prediction what if they release it during Elder Scrolls 6's time lol in 2030, of course that won't happen ) there's a rich vibrant setting of historical total war mods from Rome 2 such as 1100 AD, and Bronze Age total war, in the meanwhile Attila has
    - Med 1212
    - Age of Justinian
    - Restitutor Orbis
    - 634 and 642 Dark Ages
    - Anno Domin AD mod (Norman Conquest)
    - A Pike and Shot Total War in the works
    - Rise of Mordor
    - Ancient Empires
    - A mod for 919 AD in the works
    - And more mods!
    Only problem is Attila's lack of optimisation.
    Also I have to say, YOU are one the BEST CZcamsrs I've seen along with Happy and so many others! I remember you giving me that shoutout on your community tab and I've not forgotten it man - I wish you the best of luck and may you grow bigger, better and do well man, that's all I can wish!
