Never any issues just normal maintenance and replacement items. He replaced it with the exact same vehicle that he bought used with about 120,000 miles. I agree with Scotty that they're dumb. But not because they prevent airflow. The hood already does that... the extra layer of hood-shaped plastic between the hood and the engine doesn't make much difference when the hood is closed.
They're dumb because the only people who will ever see them are mechanics. And mechanics don't care about the aesthetics; they're just something in the way between the wrenches and the bolts.

If one is to get an LS460, stay away from 2007-2012 if you can help it. Respectively, the 2013-2017 LS460 is the better route. If you desire an older LS, my recommendation is the 98-00 LS400 or the 05-06 LS430 which featured the most year end model updates. This tattered LS460 is still better than any W220 or W221 Benz, believe that.

Bought it with "low" mileage (106k -- low for a Lexus); have put 30,000 on it over three years and have only done regular fluid changes and replaced the battery in that time. Best car I've ever owned. And yes, it's basically a fancy Camry, but built in Japan (ie bulletproof!). So, when something more serious than the battery needs replacing, just about any decent mechanic will be familiar with the engine and the part will likely be easy to get and not expensive!

I have a 2008 LS460. It's currently sitting at 345,000 miles, and I haven't done any work to it besides routine oil changes (which I'm going to be honest, have been behind on at times), tires, etc. Still runs pretty good, only problems id say is I think the transmission is slipping because its RPM's shoot up, and that it absolutely consumes engine oil (says oil is low or empty 2500 miles after an oil change). When I got the car, it was at 298k miles, and the previous owner never used premium gas, only regular. I drive about 500 miles a week for work.

I have a 2007 LS 460. It has 68,000 miles. I love it. It’s been babied for it’s life. Frequent oil changes, garaged, etc. I have no doubt I’ll be able to get 200k out of it if I keep it long enough. This example looks like it’s been neglected. Probably lack of oil changes if I had to guess. I think you can get away with a neglected Lexus or Toyota V6 as they are tough as nails but a Lexus V8 that’s neglected I’d steer clear of. But if you can find an LS in great condition there is nothing like a Lexus V8. Much more fun than a V6 Scotty!

Well I do not know about lexus but the covers are there for a very good reason in BMWs. It is there for mostly noise reasons. It is called an acoustic cover. Also it is nice when there is no random leaves that fel through some vents or bypassed the radiator sitting right between your injectors... it collects moisture and rots there and makes your cylinder head mounted components rust... things are there for a reason in an engine bay. Car manufacturers are not in the business of giving you a single molecule more than what is absolutely necessary to make you happy.

Scotty, I just purchased a 2001 Toyota 4Runner 3.4L V6, Has just over 261K miles. I have to say, it’s a great suv! I’ve always wanted a 3rd Gen. But really was concerned with the reliability of the high mileage ones. (That was all I could afford) coming from a Volkswagen Jetta. The parts for the Toyota, are so cheap. I had to get a new radiator, it was $120 “in stock” at auto-zone! A radiator for my Volkswagen would have been well over $300.
Not only was it easy to work on, it’s a easy car to drive, everything is simple and where you’d expect it to be. Toyota and Lexus really have stuff figured out. And they have for the past 25+ years.
I watched a few of your Toyota videos, I’ve noticed you high recommended the 4Runner. Specifically the 3rd generation! I can see why! If anyone wants a great vehicle, a 4runner is the way to go!

But I'd take the V8 over the V6 because I never could stand the natural imbalance of v6 engines , with their ballance shafts splayed cranks etc. . Just prefer a straight 6 over V6 .

Glad to see your comments on the beauty covers. I agree! I can tell you we live in the SW desert. It's very hot. When we got my wife's RAV4 (V6) we went thru the front ignitors 3 times in 100K miles. It was weird because it was always one of the front ones that went bad. The back ones never went bad. So the last time I changed one of the front ignitors, I left the "beauty cover" off. We now have 190K on the car and not one has gone bad. The back ones are up against the firewall, away from the radiator. The front ones are right next to the radiator and the cover just channels the air right to them. So the cover is in the attic and it'll never be back on the car.

    Nice Channel Scott.
Kindly advise on what could n wrong with my Lexus RX330. When I start in the morning, I hear a mild rattle and it stops after three seconds, I scanned and saw code P0022 with Check engine and VSC lights on. After three days the VSC lights go out and my car dashboard display is normal. What is wrong?

We have a 2001 Lexus LS430 that has gone from my brother when new, to my wife, to our adult daughter, her boyfriend, and now back to me again. 189K on the clock and the only thing other than preventive maintenance on the engine was an electric component that signaled the variable valve timing. Heck, the A/C has never required a refrigerant charge in 21 years! Absolutely the most reliable and bulletproof luxury car I've ever owned.

You would still want to get the aircon serviced lol. It is probably poisoning you. The filter needs to be changed out every once in a while lol

I'd save 200 a month for 2 years while driving this car and save that into a timing chain fund. Then take it in after a couple years and get it changed.

Scotty, I just bought an 09' ls460, do they still have that problem in that year? I bought this car with 170k miles on it thinking that was a fraction of the cars life. I already swapped my struts to coils, replaced all the control arms with aftermarket and changed the brakes to drilled and slotted

    • @RtistiqSkubie
      @RtistiqSkubie Před 2 lety

Yes... before the 2013 facelift the 07-12 460 are the worst rated LSs...07-09 is the worst

@@RtistiqSkubie I have an 07 LS460 and i disagree. Never had any issues with mine and my car has every option except for the long wheelbase. Even the air suspension and control arms still have no issues at 159000kms but I of course know that these will have to be replaced at some point. The radar on this car is amazing and the features/comfort make me feel like it is one of the best cars ever made!

Strangely my Lexus V8 2001 LS430 is exempt from the paying the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Fee)(tax on the poor) that has been established in London UK for so called old pollutiing cars.

I have a 2007 LS460 with 170,000 miles on it. Great car. Unfortunately it's one of the cars Toyota made at the time with engine issues. Dealer confirmed my engine is worn and as a result it burns oil and leaks oil. However it still has LOTS of pickup up and runs smooth and quiet

You know what's wrong with the engine? You brought it to a stealership 😂. Buy a bnew car to them then bring it after a month then they will say there's something needs to be replaced/replaced

I just bought an '07 before I found out they have issues. I love the car so I've decided to keep it and hope for the best. As someone who has owned the car for a while,do you think I should use premium gas? Is there anything else you can tell me besides regular oil changes and I guess transmission changes?

Sometimes I feel pulsing in my brake petal. It's not all the time. Is that what you would expect from a bad brake actuator? If that is the only symptom I am guessing you wait until it gets bad enough to bother you? I have no idea about these things.

@@HarMageddo I'm not sure how to pay attention to the control arms other than maybe listen for any strange sounds. The car is very low to the ground but if I were to raise it I wouldn't know what to look for anyway.

First thing I do when I buy a car is remove the stupid covers. A) Better heat dissipation and B) If something looks suspect like leaks etc you’ll actually see them without a stupid plastic cover in the way!
