I've been slowly educating myself this year on what I want from my first sim rig and which manufacturers/components made the most sense for my needs and budget. After seeing this video, I decided I had done enough tire kicking and decided it was time to jump in. Thanks to Microcenter significantly dropping the price of the Asetek Tony Kanaan bundle I now have a rig that performs way beyond my expectations and for significantly less than I imagined.

What cockpit do you have? I decided last night I was going to buy the sim lab gt1 pro. After not being able to decide for the past year which cockpit to get. I even got out of bed to order it. Then, once I put my address in it said $268 to ship. Ah hell naw. I got back in the bed 😂 kinda sucks I really wanted it, but to have to pay $268 for shipping after spending over $1k on a rig that doesn't even come with the seat is absolutely insane to me. Ever since i pre-ordered the Moza r12 and KS Wheel i have been dreading this review Will. I also got the Fanatec CSL Elite V2 pedals. So I have a clutch, very good brake pedal, and a clutch release on my wheel. And unfortunately the La Prima bundle was an extra chunk of cash when you added GST and shipping to Australia.
But yes, this stuff looks to be both quality and beautiful (i love the aesthetic). I particularly enjoy the videos of the Aseteck CEO introducing his gear. I wanted pedals that could adapt to all cars as drift from one style of sim racing to another all the time. La Prima was just that bit too $$$ (also Aussie btw), and unknown, and Moza has been so good at expanding their ecosystem. I'm very happy. And I'd still love a La Prima! 😆

The Asetek wheel rims definitely look like toys to me. Something about the buttons and thumb encoders looks really plasticky. Not a fan, but I like the open nature of the WB to use any wheels.
The KS wheel, while in the same league visually, does more to convince me it's a real wheel rim. Especially the finish on the plastic housing and illuminated buttons.

Regarding Kevin Magnussen's settings, something to remember is that Formula 1 cars have power steering. So the forces through the wheel may not be as high as you might guess. Interestingly Formula 2 and Formula 3 cars don't have power steering, so their wheel response is said to be much heavier.

Great video! I was about to order a Moza R12 until I saw this. Microcenter has an interesting bundle called the Asetek Tony Kanaan Bundle which is TK branded but consists of the La Prima base (but with the 5 USB port in the back that doesn't come on the standard base), a TK branded Forte wheel and TK branded La Prima pedals. Its priced higher than the La Prima Bundle at $1900, but for some reason it was on sale last week for $1200. I went straight to the store and bought it and have been loving it, really good stuff. If you can get it for $1200, this is a steal - better wheel functionality, and you can add the clutch pedals to it which you can't to the La Prima wheel. Also, for anyone looking for just the base, Microcenter sells it separately as well as in the bundle.

If I remember correctly, you CANNOT add the clutch paddles and analog shifters to the La Prima wheel, there's no PCB support for it. You need to upgrade to the Forte, and then you can add them.
By the way, very nice that you are looking to cover the Alpha Mini. I think the 10-12nm range is among the most interesting for a large part of sim racers at the moment, and the La Prima and the Alpha Mini seem to be the most viable options in that category, so great to see you cover both to get an educated opinion on the differences. I'm particularly interested to see of the Alpha Mini actually has 13nm instead of the advertised 10nm, because I read somewhere that they dialed that down to 10nm in a recent firmware patch or something. So basically, if there would be any significant maximum torque difference in the two wheel bases.

So naturally the Fanatec DD would be an easy plug and play for me, however, I’ve heard the Simucube and Asetek are higher quality. My question is, can I run my nascar wheel on those two and will my pedals and shifter plug and play easily? I hate problems! 😂

Great review as always Will, thanks you! I really like this brand, their view on sim racing products and how they present themselves but.... Unfortunately, and that is a matter of taste, I do not like the looks of their products and the colour Orange. So maybe I should buy the front mount so I don't see the wheel base, buy a colour kit from pineapplegrips for the wheel and paint the orange parts of the pedals ;-). Currently still in Fanatec eco system with belt driven CSW 2.5, bought that new and within a year the DD came on the market ..... Never had issues with Fanatec but that is maybe because I always bought a v2 or higher version of their products. So maybe I should wait for DD1 v2 or DD2 v2 and v4 clubsport pedals .... which might take ages😂

Personally, I've never had an issue with fanatec support or their products. The fit the rig, they work together and they are backwards compatible. Not to mention great quality and super fast shipping. I get fanatec orders faster than Amazon. This is just my experience. I don't doubt that people have had problems with them. To each their own. I guess it only matters to a few of us that fanatec is a title sponsor for pretty much every major GT racing series in the world. I'll continue my support.

For me coming from the Fanatec eco system there is a big problem with the La Prima wheel & wheel base bundle: No dual clutch possibility on the wheel.
That means either purchasing a conversion kit plus Invicta QR to use my McLaren GT3 wheel (which has clutch) or bying the La Prima wheel base + the Forte wheel. But wait! The La Prima wheel base isn't sold separately. I just don't understand the choice to not have clutch paddles as an option on the La Prima wheel. Even the cheap McLaren GT3 V2 and the Moza KS have those.
    Asetek needs to:
    1. Offer possibility of dual clutches on the La Prima wheel
    or
    2. Sell the La Prima wheel base separately.

They are real load cell pedals. All load cell pedals are essentially measuring deflection of the strain gauge based on how much force is applied to the pedal. The difference here is that the applied force is scaled through a spring rather than applied directly to the strain gauge.
In a practical sense I don’t find it to be detrimental at all. It was discussed at length in our review of the Forte pedals.

I want to get into it again, and due to some dear friends from those times was offered a very good Deal on both including the same great pedalset and rig, putting them both at the almost the same low price for me, with the logitech even having a slightly better offer.
I'm not really looking for upgradability since I'm positive this whole thing will remain a casual weekend enjoyment with my wife and friends rather than ever hoping to get on their level again, which is why I'm more considerate of the fun in it all, even if I drive at the ba k of the field.
