    Very nice collection! I’ve got the Pentax 645 & Hasselblad xPan too, both are excellent! But my favorite, hands down, is my Nikon F3. IMO it’s definitely one of the best .35 mm f1.4 film camera made!

    I like what you said about the Mamiya 7 and Leica cameras. That panoramic camera is underrated; great photos, btw. Hey, if it’s a collection that you can afford, why not have it? I have a Pentax 645N. Loading 120 film is fun, but the moment I hit the fire button, music to my ears as the motor is driving the first exposure into place. Although I may love this noise, it’s the clap of the shutter that I adore, it startles a lot of people. 🤣

    If you want a 67 range finder camera with a lens that has more character than the Mamiya 7(s), 1 stop faster, more compactness and fully mechanical, go try the Makina 67. You'll be blown away by the handling and the images that it can produce. (And I'm already owning the cameras in this video, so had the time in the last 15 years to test them head to head, they are all fantastic and I have the same desease I want them all)

    As an owner of two Hasselblad H1 cameras with film backs, just chiming in to say that you actually don't need to align up the arrows to the notches when loading the film. When loading just push the tab through the slot so it barely tucks in when you roll it, and you're safe to load the magazine. The film back has a sensor that detects the film and "knows" when to stop. Try loading a dummy roll with no film and and all that's going to happen is you will get an error message and the camera will load the whole roll onto the other spool because it won't see the film.
    I would also argue that the camera has a really good focus system for it's age (which you point out) I've never had issues with it, granted it only has one focusing point so if you focus on an eyeball and then recompose it will go out of focus (given shallow DOF with lenses such as the 80mm f2.8 and 100mm f2.2). When shooting close-up portraits i.e. chest up, head shot, don't rely on the AF just manual focus.The focusing screen is really bright and with the diopter adjusted 90x Prism finder I've never had issues. Also that 100mm f2.2 lens, SO GOOD (chef's kiss) better than the Contax 80mm f2 (in my opinion) just glad it's not an overly used/hyped lens.
    One other correction is that the H1 one doesn't use Zeiss glass. The lenses are also manufactured by Fujifilm but to Hasselblad's specifications. At the time Zeiss didn't have/manufacture glass sharp enough for Hasselblad's standards so they used Fujifilm. You're right about the film back, they're very expensive, but once you find one you can acquire the rest of the pieces at a very reasonable price, in fact you should be able to piece a whole H1/H2 for under the asking price of a Contax 645 with money left over for film/developing. The Hasselblad H is my system of choice, personally 645 is a good balance between film price and quality (for me) hopefully this is helpful to anyone out there.

    • @whoschrischu
      @whoschrischu  Před 2 lety

      OH dang! I didn't know about the rolling technique! I'll have to try that out the next time. Way to go, Hasselblad.
      Also, thank you for the correction. I kinda assumed it was Zeiss glass cuz the V system had it for so long. The H1 is so well built.

    Interesting collection, so what happened to the guy that said the RB67 is way better than the RZ? Very nice click camera shown on the table. Dance with film started with a brownie and it had a crack on it. But I did enjoy the images I've misplaced that darn thing years ago but I still kinda miss the simplicity of the camera. I never thought about how much light the image would take nor did I think about was the image in the right frame lines. It was more of I just wanted to take pictures of something interesting...

    Amazing collection! On the Leica gate keepers.. where to start, it's definitely the old heads who are like this. But even more so these days across any age range, it's more haters who don't like the brand simply because it's expensive and high tech EVF's exist. I see way more people have no idea what a rangefinder actually is and why someone would want one, than people who get it and let others be happy with it. 🤷‍♂️

    • @whoschrischu
      @whoschrischu  Před 2 lety +1

      Couldn't agree more! I think once some folks hold one, they'll understand. I wish I could just get more Leica's in the hands of others (to experience, not to keep) but yeah man...why can't we just let other people be happy with owning a camera

  • @connieandstewart
    @connieandstewart Před 2 lety +2

    dope video! I agree the m6 is my favorite in your collection Hahaa but I didn't know about that tasty bit about the H1! Pretty sweet!
    As for gatekeepers - what I've found most surprising is most of the Leica owners I've met at any age group have been more than welcoming to people wanting to purchase a Leica and/or show an interest in photography (maybe because they all have some sort of GAS and love to collect interesting Leica pieces hahaha). Growing up as a photography enthusiast, most non Leica owners were actually the ones telling me how stupid it must be to own an Leica and that Leica owners are just using it as a status piece but aren't real photographers. hahaha Maybe the narrative changed and the next generation is more kind than what it was like growing up for me, but It was intimidating at first even want to get into Leicas even thought I had this unscratched itch and fascination for rangefinders... but I just could bring myself to share that with my peers in fear of how they'd perceived me hahaha

    • @whoschrischu
      @whoschrischu  Před 2 lety +1

      that totally makes sense that maybe mine (or our) generation that's younger kinda skipped the BS of blocking people from a camera. It's the old heads that typically ruin a lot of things xD. I think it's pretty true too that those who don't have it also kinda shame a want for a Leica...but I can kinda see why they think that. It's very expensive and they probably never used it, which is understanding to think (I guess?)
      Bottomline: anyone who gatekeeps a camera, let alone an art form like film photography, is very insecure

    • @connieandstewart
      @connieandstewart Před 2 lety +1

      @@whoschrischu totally agree! There are definitely bitter old people out there that feel like some people haven't "earned" the right to use a Leica.. whatever the hell that means hahaha
      I think the hilarious thing about it all is typically the argument against Leica is the fact that you can buy a more than decent setup with another company for the cost of the body alone (digitally speaking and even at the cost of a new MP). Maybe 1-2 bodies +2-3 lens or more if you consider the pre-owned market.
      but the reality of it is, after you've played around with photography long enough, you really gravitate towards maybe 1 or 2 lens and that's enough.
      So you buy said 1 or 2 lens when you buy a Leica... and your set... yet somehow you GAS and have multiple lens and you just have to be honest with yourself and admit you just like collecting shit hahahaha

    • @whoschrischu
      @whoschrischu  Před 2 lety +1

      @@connieandstewart precisely. After a while (with anything) the fat is cut and people will find out what they like / don’t like in their camera gear. I remember in 2016/2017, it was cool af to have 1-2 camera bodies with 3 lenses minimum in a bag. HAAAAIL NO
      running lean with this setup is freaking SIIIICK but it only came after knowing which focal lengths I really like with a system I really enjoy.

  • @BuzzLiteBeer
    @BuzzLiteBeer Před 2 lety

    RZ67 is very different vs the Mam7 but two box-SLR 645's and two M6's is a bit redundant, but like you said, it's your money so WGAF? Also, the Mamiya 7 might be out of reach at this point (like the XPAN/TX-1, Contax T3, and maybe a few others) but I own a Mamiya 6 and it's pretty damn good for about $1000 less than a 7. I got mine when they were going for 1500 (body + 75mm) and it's even more compact than the 7 (collapsible lens mount). The only issue with range finders is compositional accuracy and sometimes focusing (if your rangefinder is out of calibration); you don;t have these issues with SLR's which are previewed through the lens.

    Lovely collection. The Mamiya 7 80mm lens is very sharp indeed, but the rendering is a bit soulless compared to my Hasselblad and Rolleiflex lenses, particular for B&W. The tones and intrinsic contrast on the Zeiss lenses are way more pleasing to my eyes.

  • @mikifrances-correia1328

    wouldn't it be nice though, to have a camera that's 67, that can close focus, that has a built in light meter, and shallow glass, and is easily hand holdable because of it's ergonomics. there's only one camera I can think of that has all that,... and you don't have it yet. damn. that sucks.
